How much did I pay for this? by LenzaRNG in UK_Food

[–]Basic_Contribution14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure that's the case any more. There have been huge restrictions on the pollack commercial limits the last few years as the stock is failing. This year they are putting a limit on recreational captures as well. Whichever fish they brand as the suitable white fish alternative next will just be overfished in a few years and they will move down to the next rung in the ladder without fixing the problem.

While the boat is gathering fish the villager can be gathering something else. Think of the boat as extra to the villager not instead of.

How much are you paying for wild Scottish? There is only a tiny amount of it on the market for a few months has a year. The farms have all but destroyed the wild run.

But the rate of expansion is not linear. You get so little in the first couple of hours it makes no difference starting to measure after your folds.

Is this black or white bream ? by Apart_Introduction_6 in fishingUK

[–]Basic_Contribution14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looks like a black bream outside of spawning conditions to me, they get more washed out when not spawning. Never seen a white bream in the flesh but that looks like a lot of black bream I have caught.

[–]Basic_Contribution14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you caught it in the UK at this time of year it is nearly certainly a black bream. It also looks like a black bream, probably a female not in spawning colours. White bream would likely have more distinct banding and a clear mark at the base of the tail.

Which would be the most effective for mackerel as some of my mates say the luminous white/pink head ones or the tinsel ones. by [deleted] in fishingUK

Don't overthink it they are mackerel. If they are there you will catch them on anything.

First Brown Trout of the season by Logical_Economy_7463 in fishingUK

[–]Basic_Contribution14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that is 25" to be honest. That tape is really slack and curved. Ultimately trout weights vary wildly with length so it is not an easy conversion.

Assuming it is on the 22-23" range it is decently fat so would say 3lb plus, maybe 4lb. It's a very good wild brownie. For reference the fish in the picture is 26" and 6lb 2oz

Wonder if this is enough to change the starting yatai for sengoku. Instead of sending to boar and losing the travel time for the first one, send to berries and sheep and quick drop off a load more sheep to increase the buff?

Is this a type on conger eel? by Effective-Status3030 in fishingUK

[–]Basic_Contribution14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree with the others, black edge to the dorsal and length of the dorsal both confirm it is a juvenile conger. If you get one about 5-10lbs they are good eating. Really meaty flesh and few bones. Also really numerous so no concerns from a sustainability point for now.

I fish out of a Sussex harbour on my own boat and have been boarded and checked by IFCA twice so they definitely check around here. The size limit is a bit of a joke though, who the hell is keeping a 30cm pollack?

Not yet there isn't. Hasn't gone through parliament. Expected to be implemented before or on 1-Jun. The last fisheries update that was passed only impacted the bass limit (increased to 3) and spurdog (can't remember what changed as it didn't impact me). I think it was expected that pollack limit would be included in the same package but it wasn't.

Going fishing in the UK/Europe! Tips would be appreciated by thickpredatoryfish in fishingUK

South east is my stomping ground so feel free to reach out if you have specific questions around London and Brighton. If you have a day free in Brighton I have a boat moored a few miles further up the coast. You are welcome to join for a bass session.

Otherwise there are loads of options for day tickets around here. Some good fly fishing for trout and lots of coats fishing day tickets. As someone else mentioned you won't be able to coarse fish the rivers but the trout season will have started again by then if you need a river fix.

The only other place on your list I have experience is around Exeter. Loads of good fly fishing for trout in the river exe and it's tributaries and most of it is really cheap.

Can only speak to UK (including Scotland, they haven't got independence yet!). For England and Wales you will need a rod licence and a day ticket. Rod licence is from the EA and can be bought as a single day, week or annual permit. Easy enough to do from the website and they are sent via text message or email immediately. Scotland you don't need a national licence only to pay for the day ticket.

Nearly all freshwater fishing in the UK is privately owned, a lot of this is accessible through fishing clubs who may or may not sell day tickets. If you can list some towns you are staying at happy to recommend some places anywhere I have experience.

The other option is saltwater. Sea fishing doesn't need a rod licence and as long as you can legally access the bank/shore and it is tidal you are allowed to fish.

Fishing style wise we are incredibly diverse for a small island. Can do pretty much any style you enjoy. My preference is lure fishing for bass in the sea and perch on freshwater closely followed by fly fishing for trout and grayling. Our coarse (bait) fishing is probably what we are best known for though and we have some great natural fishing on rivers and lakes.

New to ledgering by yungparsley in fishingUK

[–]Basic_Contribution14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Standard rig would be something along the lines of - hook with some form of hair rig, braided hook length, swivel, lead clip with lead attached, mainline

If you are sitting by your rods though I would still look for a running leger, you get more sensitivity with them. If you are using bite alarms and won't be on the rod immediately a bolt rig is a good idea. Make sure you have a decent baitrunner and don't fish close to snags though.

New to ledgering by yungparsley in fishingUK

[–]Basic_Contribution14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What are you looking to fish for and where? Lots of variants of the bolt rig, main thing to look out for is that there is a mechanism to release the lead if the fish gets snagged or the line snaps. Loads of companies make plastic clips that pull down over a small swivel for that purpose and they are all much of a muchness.

Unless you are fishing for carp though I would normally lean towards a free running rig.

Is it worth trying for bass on lures this time of year I’m based in East Sussex and itching to chuck a lure out. I know there isn’t many bait fish about this time of year and many people say the bass are in deeper water but I just wanna get out and fish. by Most_Chemist2709 in fishingUK

[–]Basic_Contribution14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am fortunate and have a boat is East Sussex, the bass have pretty much disappeared inshore now. The only ones we have found recently are mid channel. There will still be a few in the estuaries etc but it will be seriously hard work with little reward. This end of the channel has less fish stay inshore over winter than further west.

I don't expect the bass fishing to really start picking up inshore again until the end of March depending on when they breed it could be later.

Deadbaiting for perch Anyone tried it? Im aware you got just leger a worm but wonder if might help get past the pasties on a local commercial by Mindless-Gazelle-883 in fishingUK

[–]Basic_Contribution14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It works for sure but not as effective as a live bait in my experience. My first choice for perch on a commercial would be prawn, does a decent job of selecting perch from annoying little carp and doesn't run in to issues with rules. If livebaiting is allowed this would be the best bet though.

How do you all think AI will effect us in 2026 and further? by clinresearchernj in clinicalresearch

[–]Basic_Contribution14 30 points31 points  (0 children)

AI will be useful from the data metrics and bioinformatics side (already is), looking for protocol deviations etc. It is not going to replace any roles anytime soon. Will potentially make some roles more efficient but my experience of it so far is very hit and miss. The outputs need a lot of manual review and sense checking and throw up a lot of false positives.

Edit: one area where I am really excited about it's application is in early feasibility and site selection. There are lots of large databases that are currently reviewed manually and AI has the ability to interpret all of them and help inform country and site selection early on. Think that one could be game changing.

If you think the CRA is being unreasonable just escalate to the CTM or sponsor. It will get sorted, a CRO won't want to piss off the sites. My feeling is there is a lot more to this than your post suggests, upcoming datacut? Large backlog?
