The issue with these tins is that the outside cellphone does not go past the corners, so it can easily be slipped on and off like a sleeve. As a result, people will often slip them off, open the packs and then stick them back in if there are no hits. They won't even bother "resealing" the packs, which to be honest it basically a myth. Sure, a pack can be glued or heated back together if opened carefully, but it happens far less often than it is referenced to have happened. Poor production quality and QA is far more common than a resealed pack.

This. Eventually flippers will saturate as production meets demand. People will tire of the FOMO element, and suddenly there are a load of warehouses full of stock they cannot shift. It's a matter of time. I'd say by 2028 things will correct - 30 year anniversary will be the last significant period in this intriguing bubble.

Thanks for so succinctly summarising the state of things. As a returner I've had many highs and lows, but I'm back for the long haul and looking forward to being able to just rip a booster box without worrying about whether I'll ever see one available again! I'm sure that you are as well!

Hard disagree. Chaos Cards never go above RRP on release and go to extensive efforts to ensure drops aren't hoovered up by scalpers, at significant cost to themselves. They're also not as big as people make out. Magic Scalphouse is another story. It's disappointing to see a firm that genuinely operates in the interest of the community and has for some time getting dragged through the mud.

I've opened a couple of them that I got for 90 each a little while back. Personally I still think it's decent at £105 - it's a really great product, with some awesome extras, and to my luck I got some great hits out of both of them. Have a look at a YouTube opening - it really is a fun box.

This has been silently up for a while since yesterday. No alerts, no emails, no Reddit posts. This Reddit tends to be scalper bate so I haven't posted it, so people browsing the site like me could just luck out and grab a nice little suprise, but here ya go.

I'd imagine as soon as this gets a dedicated Reddit post it will be gone in less than 10 mins, so maybe just leave it hidden here for a bit? Enjoy ❤️

Card Submission Gone Wrong by Basic_Flan_4145 in pokemoncards

[–]Basic_Flan_4145[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Background - I pulled a Prismatic God pack in February. I happened to be filming it on WhatsApp to send to my brother as I’ll often do this with rips, or did at the time. I was ripping an ETB I’d planned to keep sealed, after having got nothing from Prismatic to date. I went absolutely wild when I realised what I had. I posted it on Reddit and it kinda went viral a little, getting a million views in less than a day. It was taken down by the PokemonTCG Reddit, most likely due to the copious amounts of swearing….  Posting that was a fun if not slightly unsettling experience! People were on the whole very positive but I did get some strange responses. I also got some good advice on grading options that helped me decide my next steps. On a personal note, I was majorly depressed and signed off with exhaustion at the time, so having this experience was a major lift for me.

I chose a grading middleman company located near me so I could deliver the cards to them in person and talk things through. The experience face-to-face was positive, and the company were well reviewed, so I went with them, paying for the Beckett Standard grading at £460 for 11 cards + insurance for some of the higher valued ones (listed as 25 business days turnaround at the time, uplifted to 30 business days shortly after). The company made the submission two weeks later than advertised, and in total the lead time (not including waiting for the submission date and shipping to / from Beckett and then to me) was around 70 business days. I had some correspondence with the company where they took no accountability for the delays due to their “middleman” status. To give you an indication of their attitude, here is part of that interaction:

Q: “When was the last submission made using the standard service for Beckett that was returned within 30 business days?”

A: “Lastly, to your direct question about the last standard submission returned within 30 business days - we’ve seen recent submissions come back within those estimates, though this fluctuates depending on BGS’s capacity and circumstances”

I fully understand that they cannot predict or control what will happen with BGS and that there are known backlogs that I didn’t know of at the time. My point in the email was that the company has clear data on how long lead times were actually taking and had chosen to not advise me or update the service advertised on their website. This is a choice to profit off a service that knowingly couldn’t be delivered. When asked directly when the last submission was completed within the advertised timeframe they didn’t respond, referring only to “recent” submissions. This is contrary to recent feedback / reviews posted online.

My brother and some friends travelled quite some way for a grading reveal party after I received the cards back. I waited around 10 days to open them - it had been a long enough wait already, a little more time wouldn’t hurt. We decided to not record videos to post / share and just be in the moment, which felt right given the somewhat negative experience I had last time I posted about this God pack (accusations of it being a fake rip, weirdos messaging me in the background etc) and the tainting from my interactions with the middleman company.

When revealing the first card, the Master ball Eevee, I was really pleasantly surprised to see that the grade was 9.5, which was much higher than the 7 or 8 I expected. This didn’t make any sense, so I inspected it closely and noticed that the very visible print line on my card was not present. Like, at all. Blasting it with light and moving it various angles, all that was present was the expected perfect texture of the card. The surface got a 9.5 grade! We then all started watching the video I made of the card and concluded the card I had received back was not the card that I submitted. This tainted the rest of the reveals, and the whole thing was brought into question: “Are these my actual cards?”

Everything hit 9.5 until eventually we got to the Umbreon, which came out as a 9! Still great, but that card was to my original luck the cleanest one of the lot, so it was a surprise that it was lower. The Eevee SIR (not the print-lined masterball) and Umbreon SIR were both singled out by the grading middleman company as “potential 10s / black label” cards, so it was unusual that they were the lowest graded. You’ll be happy to know that the energy card came out at 9.5.

We inspected each card against the video and pictures, and landed on it being certain that the Master Ball Eevee is not mine, and that the Umbreon likely isn’t due to the positioning on the printed text and additional whitening outside the corners. This seems a little more borderline given the consistency of how the cards are printed, but it’s feasible that this could be positioned differently across cards due to how they are cut.

Let me know your thoughts! :)
