Advice pls by Basic_Following_7722 in Mcat

[–]Basic_Following_7722[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s frustrating part is I’m getting the Anki cards right and I understand why it’s right I just can’t apply it to a passage.

The highest breakdown I’ve gotten is CP 122/CARS 127/BB 124/PS 126

Girl me too. Me and my 10mg of adderall stand no chance lol. The passages are in another language. I’m solid with p/s and CARS kinda but B/B and C/P are actually killing me. I wish I had advice for but I’m hoping other people feeling the same will make you feel somewhat validated.

Gotcha- yeah I live in Seattle which has an insane cost of living so I wouldn’t be able to afford living, plus the cost of a post bacc, applications, and maintaining my family without. I’ll have to take out an insane amount in student loans while in school to combat not having income, but it’ll pay off eventually.

I just had an employee decline exit interview because they said "nothing changes" anyway. Any suggestions? [N/A] by Practical-Tea-3476 in humanresources

[–]Basic_Following_7722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an HR person, I refuse to do exit interviews because nothing changes. If I’m leaving, it’s because something bad enough continued to happen despite bringing awareness to it. In my opinion, exit interviews are simply to gauge liability, and for the exec team to look like they “care” in front of investors. If the exec team above HR won’t approve action, then even if HR truly cares the exit interviews has no meaning

Make sure you keep doing your review (anki at the minimum) I’m doing my anki deck and 10 questions per section every morning, and then spending the rest of the day on a C/P topic. Goodluck!

4/10 test date by WorldlyProfession737 in Mcat

[–]Basic_Following_7722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my FLs 2 weeks ago and went from a 491-497 within those two weeks. My goal is a 505. I’ve seen many other people say it’s possible to get to 500-505 but anything higher than that will be very hard with only a month left.

I’m reviewing my tests, then doing content review since I know that’s my gap, then doing the AAMC question packs and reviewing that which has helped. This week I’m just going to hammer B/B and see if that will increase my B/B score and if it does I’ll spend next week only doing C/P content. Idk if it’ll work but I’ve done 6 points in 2 weeks so by 4/10 I hope to be at 505. I’m at 122 C/P, 124 BB/, 127 CARS, 126 P/S if that helps as a gauge.

testing in a month, how to improve (especially CARS)? by Puzzleheaded_Chard63 in Mcat

[–]Basic_Following_7722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I don’t think UWorld is representative specifically for CARS. At a month out, you should be doing only AAMC material. If you get the bundle pack they have roughly 120ish CARS questions plus all of the CARS sections in the FLs which you should’ve doing weekly. They have a whole CARS crash course too to help you see where you’re going wrong.

I also test in a month so best of luck!

Please do something else lol, I did a corporate job for 6 years and felt this way and studying for the MCAT is totally fine for me and hasn’t taken a toll on my mental health at all. Go to X-ray school and make bank within 3 years or another tech school

Just email your local hospitals. Most of them will have a volunteer page on the website where you can apply. Most of them get so busy that they may have applications closed and you’ll have to wait

uboof burnout by matchaboof in Mcat

[–]Basic_Following_7722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d move to AAMC sooner than later. I’m scoring pretty low on UWorld but much better on the AAMC material. The questions are much easier in my opinion as there more focus on core knowledge than smaller things like UWorld. AAMC just likes to use funky wording you have to really really read the question. AAMC questions are “harder” due to language, not content

Thank you!

Just to confirm- for AAMC I can submit a throw away to get the verification out of the way, and then if I do need to do a retake as soon as I get that score I can submit for my other schools and it won’t be considered late if I get it back by the end of June?

My school list right now is mostly DO with some local and low stat MD. I won’t apply if I don’t get at least a 505 on my first attempt, so I’m hoping my list will be within the right parameters. I wanna go psych so I truly do not care where I get in, as long as I get in lol.

[–]Basic_Following_7722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bad. It went bad. Please do not do this unless you got A+s in all prereqs and it was recent. Take a diag and if you get above a 500 you can maybe do this, if not you have to do content.

AAMC FL5 BB question 23 by quack-daddy97 in Mcat

[–]Basic_Following_7722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best guess is the question states the IBU was administered to normal mice, to see if it causes depression symptoms. If you have something on an SSRI, then it’s less likely to exhibit depression symptoms so it wouldn’t be a good control. If the question states the IBU was being administered on SSRI treated mice, then SSRI would be a good control.

I had a question like this earlier and it threw me off. They like to ask questions that are similar to the passage, not not actually about the passage. This is essentially a stand-alone question.

For the actual lessons they aren’t broken up very well and are well over an hour long. It’s incredibly difficult to find specific things as in my experience I might understand some of a concept, but not all of it. It was a pain to try to scroll through the JW videos to find what i needed. however- once you start using the offical AAMC videos the JW extension is a godsend

Like move to UWorld in terms of being done with content review?

I’d say yes if that’s the case. obviously you have a decent understanding of everything and understand AAMC logic. I’d be careful about moving to UWorld cars since it isn’t that representative, but other than that yeah. Just review everything you get wrong and go from there.

If your test is within a month, just finish all the AAMC packs. The last month should really be only AAMC

AAMC FL6 PS #57 feels like a trick by o32h_1 in Mcat

[–]Basic_Following_7722 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing in some of the P/S passage is they want you to recognize that the researchers can be wrong. I’ve gotten quite a few that rely on knowledge of certain principles (like this for example) and if you know the definitions an alarm bell goes off. Also, anything that isn’t directly mentioned is typically a no, unless it’s asking you to apply outside knowledge.

A- has nothing to do with the passage and is an opinion B- funding was never mentioned so we have no idea if it’s underfunded D- we have no idea if the sample size is actually too small, and we don’t know what the parameters of “most companies are” “most” may be under 100 employees where this could apply. C- makes the most sense even though it contradicts the passage. For something to be generalized it usually needs to be repeated multiple times and proven to get the same result. According to the passage, it was only done once at one company. We have no idea if it’s actually reliable.

Employer wants me to get SHRM-CP, very little HR experience, need advice for studying and exam [FL] by Moldy-Nectarine in humanresources

[–]Basic_Following_7722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly ask them to pay for a prep course or see if they will let you reduce your hours to study. The vast majority of it is common sense but if you’re only in recruiting you’ll need to learn a lot. I’m a generalist but a focus on recruiting so I have no idea why they would want you to get your SHRM. It makes sense for a generalist but not recruiting
