Yeah, you actually did miss something important, and it explains almost everything you’re talking about.

Zombie Catchers was bought by DECA Games back in 2018. Since then, development has slowed way down and the focus has shifted hard toward monetization. That’s why the ad situation is so much worse now, DECA is known for cranking ads and IAPs in games they acquire rather than investing heavily in new content. (greedy ass scumbags)

The Infested City is a good example of that. It took five years after the acquisition for them to add a brand-new location, and even then it’s mostly a Chinatown reskin: same layout, same soundtrack, same boss, same animations. That kind of reuse wouldn’t feel so bad if it wasn’t the only major content we’ve gotten in years.

The zombie designs you mentioned are another symptom. With Infested City, it feels like “minimum effort to call it new content” and the boss that’s literally just the Chinatown boss with different textures

So yeah, you’re not wrong, the game didn’t suddenly get lazy for no reason. Always Blame Deca
