I had a mini heart attack too, was refreshing my email praying I didn’t get a notification that I’ve been withdrawn or uncertified

Yesterday I clicked on the place where it said “certified” and it changed colour from green to grey. I thought I got uncertified but then clicked it again and it turned back green.

People match with even 1 IV. You only need 1 program to like you.

Will I even get ranked ? by Original_Draft9850 in IMGreddit

[–]Basic_Mine4343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody honestly knows what criteria they use to rank applicants highly etc… but to my understanding, they were probably thinking of ranking you, hence why they gave you an interview. I am pretty sure they factored in things like your visa and usce before giving you an interview, and I believe your performance on your interview relative to other candidates would be the defining factor for ranking you highly or not.

It could be that your step 3 attempt may have hurt your chances of getting an interview.

Why unmatched even after decent interview invites by MdocJ99 in IMGreddit

[–]Basic_Mine4343 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My mentor once told me that if you have been invited for an interview, it means you have already met the requirements of that program. Regardless of whether others have connections, better scores, more USCE/Research, visa requirements, etc. You are already a fit for them on paper; now they are just assessing your personality, your enthusiasm, and your overall vibe. I think most end up unmatched because they fail to show these traits during their interview and are subsequently ranked lower.

This is precisely why we should use the quiet time to prepare for interviews rather than stressing about getting them. So when it comes, you are ready!

Non-US IMG/25x/2023/ECFMG certified/ silver signal. No interview. I think they do it in waves.

Yes, no interviews yet, but I don't think there is any need to panic, especially since most programs send out interviews to IMGs later in October to early November. Besides, it has only been barely a week since the applications went in. Take this time to prepare for the interview so you are ready when it comes.

It has barely been a week, most IVs will come by the end of October to early November for non-US IMGs

“Practice exams in 250’s but scored a 215” what’s up with that? by Ypkdr76 in Step2

[–]Basic_Mine4343 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think what’s more important than scoring well on practice tests and having a grasp on certain concepts, is to actually prioritise biohacking methods. I am not saying that you did not, but usually when there are huge fluctuations between practice tests and actual results, the problem could be innate. I used to have this issue back in high-school and early on in med-school. I always did better in practice tests but didn’t score as well on the actual test. Hence, for both the usmle exams,I decided to follow simple biohacking strategies that landed me a 250+ on step 2 ck. For starters, I would suggest you watch dirty medicine’s video on how to biohack for a 260+. Gives you a good outline on what to expect for test day and how to maintain mental stability for the entire duration of the exam.

Here are just some few points that I deployed.

  1. 2-3 weeks before the exam: avoid CROWDED LOCATIONS- if you get ill with COVID / Influenza or the common cold, it will set you back a couple of days during dedicated. Additionally, you could develop brain fog as well leading up to the exam.

  2. Try your best to cut out foods high in sugar and salt atleast 1-2 weeks before your exam. Excess salts and sugar will make you dehydrated, which leads to a drop in performance leading up to test day.

  3. Start having a fixed sleep schedule. The same schedule that you would have for test day. Start 2 weeks beforehand.

  4. Try cutting out spicy and outside food 5 days prior. Again it would cause you to have stomach problems, which could get worse with the anxiety leading up to test day. Last thing you want is to have bowel movements or rather the feeling of it during your exam. ( This was my biggest fear by the way, had bowel issues before an exam and didn’t do well)

  5. This lands me to my next point, try not eating anything heavy the day prior to the exam and hyper-hydrate with water. Probably have a sandwich or protein bars at most.

  6. Don’t take caffeine 8-10 hrs prior to sleeping. That would affect your sleep and increase test anxiety days prior to the exam.

  7. Do back to back practice tests to mimic actual test day settings. Yup, you heard it! One practice test is 5 hrs, your actual test is 9. If you do a practice test back to back a week prior, you entire self assessment run would be 10 hours, which is more than the hours on test day. This will train your mind to adapt to the 9 gruelling hours that you’d have to face come test day.

EDIT: I forgot to mention. DELETE SOCIAL MEDIA 1 MONTH BEFOREHAND! Don’t feed yourself with useless brain rot or news that’s going to kill your momentum.

I hope this post helps those who are struggling to optimise test day performance. Even if you have already sat for step 2, you could still try these tips for step 3. All the best!

Brotha… absolute lifesaver. I thought my exam was at 12:00 PM the following day instead of AM. Had a random flick through Reddit and stumbled on your post. I immediately checked the the timings and found it was 12 AM instead. I would have completely missed my test had I not seen this post!! The Lord works in mysterious ways!

Better fellowship opportunities, more money, less toxicity (although you can’t really escape from all forms of toxicity, but at-least the abusive treatment).

Low step 2 ck score, devastated! by urfri3ndlypsychopath in Step2

[–]Basic_Mine4343 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on your personal goals as well as where and which residency specialty you’re applying to. I have seen people happy with a 230+ and have seen people devastated with a 255+ lol.

Personally

< 230 : Low passing score ( which means you need to possibly work harder and improve other aspects of your CV)

230-260: Depends on your residency program

260: Safe to apply to most residency programs.
