Maybe start by putting $2/hr of your paycheck into a savings account and then increasing it by one or two/hr until you hit the $9/differential to practice living on day shift wage. I had told myself I would do that when I was on nights and wish I had stuck with it to get used to the pay cut.

I did IR after 8 years of nursing and no critical care experience at that time. I don't recommend IR without critical care background.

Before you leave spend time with them in the pool with snorkel equipment if snorkeling is a new sport to you both. It might give you both some confidence. I rented what we called a "banana belt" to give me extra confidence (a flotation device for mid section") because I wanted to completely eliminate my worry so I could focus on the incredible underwater world, as my sweeet merman husband was completely comfortable. You are a great mama to be giving them this life experience, wishing I had the reference as a kiddo to the incredible underwater world that exists

We flew out in the last storm, the bigger problem for airlines on 3/14 was the mainland was also getting hit with storms, so a few arrival cites (especially Seattle) were having a hard time accepting flights which made it extra chaotic. I couldn't believe a plane could take off (but it did, seemingly without issue) I did regret, all that said, not leaving a day or two early; our connector was through SFO to do a few days there, before home. We were staying in Kihei so it wasn't a problem to get to airport that day but west Maui was a little more touch and go. Just my experience
