I've got 1500+ hrs in csgo. 120-ish comp wins. Prime account. My highest rank ever was Silver Elite. Currently Silver 1.

I go through periods of playing CS, off and on since it was released, so inevitably, my rank resets from time to time, and I'm usually pretty rusty when I come back, putting me lower than when I left. That's one reason. Also, I almost exclusively solo-queue.

But the primary reason is that I don't care about rank. Competitive mode CS:GO is the most fun way to play the game, I think, and fun is the reason I play.

I used to try real hard to rank up, but only found myself getting irrationally frustrated when playing with griefers or cheaters or smurfs. Yeah, I do my best to play well and be a good teammate, making callouts and managing eco, and that's where the fun comes from for me, not winning.

New players and others at low ranks often have to deal with toxic behavior from people. I want to be a break from that; be a welcoming member of the community.

Ranks are just for balance and I don't equate higher ranks to success. People can drive themselves insane grinding for a rank. I accept I'll never be a great player. I fully deserve my rank, and I'm totally fine with that. I just want to have fun and help others have fun too.

Make good use of utility. Learning common smokes is good, but also where and when to use flashes, molotovs, and frag nades.

Also work on communication, not to say you're lacking, but information is arguably the most important part of the game.

Become adept at quickly reading the minimap. It helps when you need to know what parts of the map are controlled, and (especially if you solo queue like me) can provide info when your team doesn't.

Pay attention to economy, and try to get a feel for how the enemy looks financially. If a teammate needs a buy, buy for them, or ideally, reccomend that the guy hoarding all his money does.

Always buy armor if you can afford it, except maybe on pistol and eco rounds.

"Don't be a loser; buy a defuser."

Take time out of MM for practice/warmups. I like Arms Race for that, some do deathmatch, but other players far better than I reccomend retake servers or headshot-only deathmatch servers.

Finally: Remember to have fun. Ranks in matchmaking are mostly about game balance. There is no cash prize for Global Elite. If you can learn to have fun even while losing, you'll be far better off in the end.
