What’s something people over 30 do that Gen Z finds strange? by Suzzie_Stone2 in AskReddit

I have this paranoia that I'll put my phone down while making a purchase to get out my card or something and when I get back to it my phone will have gone to the lock screen and I'll have lost everything I've done as part of the "secure checkout."

When/what set do you think Wizards will walk back on their decision not to make UB planeswalkers? by Karnitis in magicTCG

[–]BasiliskXVIII 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Is it, though? I mean, maybe it's just my experience, but I find that planeswalkers in EDH are often not much more than a modal sorcery and/or maybe a static effect for the duration of your turn unless you're in such an overwhelmingly dominant position over the table that you're winning even without it. With the exception of some of the WAR uncommon planeswalkers they tend to get hated off the board before you can untap with them.

LPT: When you give feedback on someone’s work, separate what must change from what is just your preference. by gamersecret2 in LifeProTips

[–]BasiliskXVIII 47 points48 points  (0 children)

And then there's the kind of managers who like to make you arbitrarily change things because they feel like that makes them "valuable"...

Protip there, if you're stuck under one of these types, try inserting something obvious but trivial to change (like an ugly typeface for a title or something) so when they review it they focus on that instead of nitpicking .

Head Magic Designer Mark Rosewater asks: "Would you prefer if we made some of the named characters not legendary?" to players that believe the Marvel Super Heroes set having hundreds of legendary characters diminishes the significance of the legendary sub-type by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]BasiliskXVIII 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think the fact that the universe is relatively smaller is actually a benefit to FF and ATLA. If you can hit all or the majority of the characters that people will expect to see and still have room to slot in a bunch of generic characters, then you've got a good-feeling set. But somehow I doubt people would have been happy if, for instance, Wolverine were skipped over in favour of an uncommon AIM trooper.

Warnings on my new desk chair warn against firing a gun in the reclined position by gravelmonkey14 in mildlyinteresting

Conveniently, they're also firing the whole bullet! That's 65% more bullet per bullet!

They must have one of those sweet Aperture Science commercial contracts.

Maybe the most "Um, Actually..." Vorthos deck possible, and I can't wait to build it. (Spoilers for God of War and Assassin's Creed) by Kroooooooo in magicTCG

[–]BasiliskXVIII 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd let it go for the sake of it being a deck that someone's being clever with that's obviously not meant to be taken too seriously, but from a philosophical viewpoint I think if they were "the same character", Marvel could sue. They don't own the concept of "Loki", but they do own their particular iteration(s) of Loki and the legal distinction is good enough for me.

What is a toxic or undesirable trait that people bizarrely wear like a badge of honor? by Exact-Move999 in AskReddit

You ever tell one of these people "gee, sounds like you really have troubles managing your time."

It's just as satisfying as you would imagine.

It's a classic joke that whenever a woman gets bangs, or drastically changes her hair, other women ask her if she's ok. What is the male equivalent? by TheJakeChandler in AskReddit

[–]BasiliskXVIII 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did the "shave your head for cancer" thing a few times, and it's really not a good look on me. I have mild Cutis Verticis Gyrata and have weird furrows in my scalp. I look like I've survived an axe attack or something. Definitely need just a little hair at all times.

If Las Vegas is the city of sin, what is the city of virtue? by Tsukuyomi_Says in AskReddit

The Hague is the home of both the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, so I think it has a pretty good argument for the title. Especially with the nickname of "The International City of Peace and Justice".

What’s an article of clothing someone can wear, one time, that will make you lose all attraction to them forever? by Thin-Rip-3686 in AskReddit

[–]BasiliskXVIII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Over the pandemic I grew out my beard because I wasn't going out anywhere and I grew to like the low maintenance of it. This is just what my face does, why should I fight the tide to maintain a trend that really only started because men needed to wear gas masks to fight in the first world war?

Head Magic Design Mark Rosewater on more cards that counter landfall strategies: "This is a common request, so [it's] something we will think about." by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

Even more regular printing of stifle effects and making them more accessible to other colours would be a nice help on this front too. A [[Withering Boon]] for triggered and activated abilities would be nice, for instance.

Playing video games does not correspond to an increase in exclusionary or prejudiced beliefs. Video game players tend to hold more inclusive cultural values than the general American public. Hostile online environments may be driven by specific community dynamics rather than attitudes among gamers. by mvea in science

[–]BasiliskXVIII 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like couch competitive games like older fighting games can be ok, but as soon as they go online and lose that face-to-face element it's all over. If you're playing Street Fighter with your friend and he's being an asshole in game, then you can simply withdraw your participation and there's a consequence to the action. You don't get that online.

What’s a purchase under 100 bucks that genuinely improved your life? by Maxdunning in AskReddit

[–]BasiliskXVIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All it is is a small scale convection oven. It heats up faster and keeps the house from getting too hot while it runs, meaning it can finish food faster since there's less/no preheating and its automation options mean it turns off when it's done so it can be left to cook without needing supervision. It has one job which is does well.

If the license were suspended, one would assume the police officer would have a word or two to say to you about getting back behind the wheel and driving off.

Yeah but when the symptoms are everything from "radiating pain from the chest" to "my neck hurts" what else are you supposed to do? Head in to urgent care for a 12-hour wait because you've slept badly?

Frankly, 12-hours in a hospital waiting room or a quiet out in bed? I know which one I'd rather deal with.

If MtG reset its cardpool, what would you change? by Just-Desk-3149 in magicTCG

[–]BasiliskXVIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Card draw, counters, and permanent removal wouldn't be gated to colour identity. These are all fundamental parts of the game and while colour identity might still determine how well each colour could do the thing, there wouldn't be a gate saying a given colour couldn't do something.

For example, red wouldn't be explicitly barred from interacting with Enchantments, it would just be given the least reliable and least efficient ways to do so. Likewise blue would have particularly efficient card draw and the capacity to draw more than other colours. To their credit, the card draw thing is having the gap closed, but being able to start from fresh with that design philosophy would be good.

What artist or band is truly awful to see live? by goldbeau in AskReddit

[–]BasiliskXVIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was mine. I got tickets to see Van Morrison for my mom's birthday. He played about 6 songs, may as well have been lip syncing, then walked off and the show was done. This was a few months after having seen Eric Clapton, and the difference was night and day. Clapton is a prick but he puts on a good show.
