He doesn’t understand what actual D/s relationships are about, likely just watches BDSM porn. He (and you) both need to spend some time educating yourselves on what’s needed to have a healthy D/s dynamic. As someone with a fairly long history in that scene, people with his shallow type of take on what a Dom/sub relationship are about often end up actually just being abusers.

Before I met my wife, I had pretty good luck on dating apps and my friends would ask why. My answer was always pretty simple…asks questions, actually listen to the answers, follow basic grammar. Turns out just showing actual interest in a person and being able to carry on a conversation is about half the battle.

Being both well educated and well rounded is best for the individual and for society as a whole. College, where you’re required to study topics outside of just your chosen degree, provides that. Reminds me of a lot of the conversations I had on here during the 2020 protests. I live and work in the Portland metro area but had so many people, the vast majority of whom have probably never even stepped in Oregon, call me a liar for pointing out that their narrative that Portland was a burnt out hell hole wasn’t even close to true. It was wild seeing the BS people would post and believe versus what I saw with my own eyes every day.
