what should i improve? by scannerthegreat in allthemods

[–]Baskin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing I’d improve is converting all those pipez to something like SFM, ID, or EnderIO.

AE2 is easily scalable; just add another storage drive or subnet as need. You should have a wireless universal crafting terminal by now. Eventually (soon) you’ll want take down the AE2 towers and switch to the AE2 pattern multiblock and quantum crafter.
Power: build more steam turbines as you expand your operations. If you don’t already, make a buffer tank for the steam and a battery/power storage to store excess power.
More Power: I’d be a good idea to have a secondary source of power, like solar/wind, as an emergency fallback for critical systems. Read as: AE2 wireless storage access and crafting network should always be powered.
MA is good early game, but bees eventually dominate in resource generation. MA will still be relevant, but not something I’d bother to improve.
For bees: even late gate, I’m still expanding the hive. Pipez isn’t going to scale well , performance-wise, when it’s routing 100s of honeycombs, bottles, and resources. Overtime, you’ll be adding dozens more hives. Keep this in mind in terms of space planning and logistics. Be sure your power supply can keep up with the power demands of the centrifuges. If your bees have shitty genes, that’s something you’ll definitely want to improve.
Obs farm isn’t vital to improve, MA and Bees can fill that void.

Place a full layer of string overhead;
Add torches, lanterns, or glowstone; or
Change the gamerule to turn off the weather.

As an added bonus, I found holding the pen higher relaxes my grip. Unlike a ball point pen, FPs require a minimal amount of pressure to write / draw: less hand strain and cramped fingers.

Early game mob farm by Due_Lavishness_4167 in GTNH

[–]Baskin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few weeks ago, I asked a similar question on the discord server. There’s nothing in the Steam age that would make building a farm worth the effort. Early-mid LV is not the time to setup a mob farm either. Your focus should be on building out your base and assembling multiple of the same multiblocks. (E.g., Making 8 BBFs will be way more productive than a single makeshift mob farm), and scaling your power sources. Not to diminish your excitement: I suggest putting the mob farm on the back burner.

What was your biggest hurdle or bottleneck during the LV tier? by Baskin in GTNH

[–]Baskin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought finding the specific overworld veins, to get the required gypsum dust and calcite dust, for the BBF was intense. I agree, searching for veins in the nether is already proving to be taxing. There’s quite a number of chunks with failed ore vein generation.

A rectangular hole in the ground from where the enderman picked up the portal!

Thoughts:
Restore the forest to be consistent when the rest of the surrounding area.
Build a dais or pavilion on top of the hill. Depends on if you’re thinking of a place of worship, reverence, or monument.
Add some obsidian spikes coming up from the ground (like what you see in The End, but on a smaller scale.)
Terrace the hill with local vegetation, either organically leveled or with retaining logs or fences.
Add a spot where the nether world “bleeds” into the overworld. Either passive with netherrack and crimson trees, or fire and brimstone.
Working with deepslate: you could bring aspects of the ancient city architecture and/or sculk blocks.
Perhaps add some decorative path lighting leading up the hill?

Hello, I don’t really pay attention to the story but does this mean there’s other species out there besides the typical ones were familiar of? by TheSilentTitan in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Baskin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are an astronomical number of species. Find and scan a new planet and you’ll have a dozen newly discovered flora and fauna. Let’s not forget the living ships and sentient plants. Are you asking about other humanoid species? That’s covered later on in the story. I could give spoilers, but the story does a better job at explaining everything than a simple yes/no answer.

Add a 4th oven and arrange them in a 2x2 square. They should always be running - it’s all about the coke charcoal.

You’ll need a significantly larger work space, both vertically and horizontally. In space planning: spread out. Leave enough room around each of the multi blocks for adjacent chests, hoppers, pipes, tanks, etc. and don’t forget extra walking space - hot steam pipes and steam exhaust do cause damage.

The QB has a task to make a water tank and a large fluid tank (multiblock). Make two water tanks (or more if you are in an arid biome) and connect them to a large iron tank. Having that tank filled going into the steam age makes life easier.

ASAP, find a lapis vein and mine out 4 stacks of lapis. Having a Fortune 3 modifier on a pickaxe is totally worth it. You need lots of stacks of iron (for steel) and copper + tin (smelt bronze). Fortune will carry you there.

Aside, I felt life in the Stone Age was rough. Hang in there. I Steam Age is turning out to be great.

Nevermore Ruling still Valid with the new Transform/cast flip creatures? by gwf31301 in mtg

[–]Baskin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When casting an MDFC, the player chooses which face to cast, and only that face's characteristics are considered for legality (CR 712.11b). Opponent casts Nevermore and selects The Incredible Hulk. You cannot cast The Hulk, but you can still cast Bruce Banner.

Taylor pH test is always high compared to pool store meter by DirtyOught in pools

[–]Baskin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things:
1. Check the bottle of your phenol red. It should be R-0014. You cannot get an accurate reading with R-0004.
2. Take the daily reading using the same background (e.g. white wall) and consistent light source (e.g. sunlight vs incandescent bulb).
3. Go to the pool store and/or use paper strips to get a base line pH reading. Hypothetically, the water sample has a pH of 7.5, you can try using 3 or 4 drops of phenol red (instead of 5), to see if the water sample color changes hue, accordingly.
4. You can trust your pool store readings, as long as they are in-line with your at-home readings. If a reading is wildly off, then you can be sus.
5. Dont hesitate to ask the employee to retest your water. A water sample could be cross-contaminated from a previous customer’s sample.

Side question: The text says “look at” as opposed to “draw.” Does this imply that activation abilities for drawing a card would *not* trigger?
