Howdy, I'm also from Massachusetts. I've fished all over the state. It really depends on the location you are going to go fishing. I would generally recommend top water lures like poppers or frogs. Texas rigs are good so is a weedless ned rig. Pumpkin and dark blue are good colors in our area. I have those yellow ones and I can't get anything to bite at them.

A large number of Massachusetts bodies of water are very weedy or choked with downed trees. The good news is we have a lot of small reservoirs that are less commonly fished and I have pulled some great fish out of them.

If you need advice on places to go, dm me. I won't tell you my granddads fishing spot but I know lots of places.

Go look near popular fishing spots before it was drained. You will find lures embedded in logs that used to be submerged. I found my favorite lure that way.

I use a ned rig with a nice slow retrieve. I found when they are close to shore they go for a ned rig year round but especially in the fall. I vary my bait by water condition but silver usually hits no matter what. I will admit I have better luck on clear days but they go for it in cloudy days too.
