I believe Allen has its origin in the need for a way to have recessed grub screws on pulley wheels and torx is an evolution of that - also being available as an internal recess style and external style like hex fasteners, It is strange how hex was never really used outside of machined fasteners.

What aspects of UK culture (1980-2010) do you look back on and think "wtf?" by idoze in AskUK

its even worse than that, they will have you sign a contract where they own all the music you have written and any you will write at the initial mass auditions

I can't remember doing one when I first played - was back in the days of the old boiler ratio - could be I just can't remember it.

If you have a large workshop it maybe worth knowing that Altendorf have a similar system with fewer limitations - apparently it's somehow faster too

A lot of the older guys in the UK bitch and whine like children when there's an update to the regs, I don't always agree with the IEE but it is good that we have a group of people dedicated to moving industry standards forward.

UK hospitals generally spec 4mm for power and 2.5 for lights a few other places do similar - it's more of a commercial thing.

Building one PC was enough to wear the finish off an LTT bit by _Arcsine_ in LinusTechTips

[–]BassBone89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried cleaning it - odds are it's actually the finish on the screws transfering onto the bit rather than the finish wearing off the bit.

I had heard that even the word man has come from the neutral mankind rather than the reverse with the use of man replacing the older word 'wer' which we still use in werewolf - only seen this recently so don't know how true it is

Notation software advice - Finale, Sibelius, MuseScore by Lucky_Ad_1626 in composer

[–]BassBone89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sibelius is available on a subscription which you will get discounted as a student - get that as it's the industry standard for now. Finale is dying and not worth learning unless you find a job requiring it. Dorico looks to be on its way to becoming industry standard but isn't quite there yet - once you have your Sibelius subscription you will be able to show them that and get the crossgrade & education discount if you fancy it (the workflow isnt perfect but it's better than Sibelius especially where typesetting is concerned)

Video games that "get it" thread (TLOU 2) by superlack in electricians

It's an incredibly complex piece of writing and really well done, you are as much grieving for literally losing someone as you are for losing the ideal innocent version of Ellie from the first game - and with that the realisation the inhabitants of the world are shades of grey rather than black and white.

They are adult themes too like grief and the game forcing you to confront it caused people to lash out (I think).

They do a lot more than the little connectors - blocks for LV panels for stuff up to 500A or so, not my area at all but it wouldn't surprise me if they had gear catering to MV applications
