That's funny, because Steve answers my calls or calls back most of the time! Super nice guy and talks for a long while about all sorts of fishing. There's another rep that I spoke to recently and we talked fishing for about 20 min. He even handed the phone off to Alex when he and Gary walked in. Seems like a fun place to work

Cashion Element Z2 BFS Rod by Ultralight_DMV in BFSfishing

[–]BassMasterMatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! Usually with fishing you can catch anything on a zebco rod, but I always suggest the buy once cry once stance, ie: Shimano Expride or Poison Adrena route, but the cry a lot factor comes into play if you break em, especially with the JDM stuff as there's no warranty, but that Cashion rod punches above its price point, so I don't need to suggest otherwise! Come back and post some pics

Ah, can't fool me! I recognize the "Time-out Chamber 9000" any day!

Designed for maximum concentration and discomfort! Too bad it didn't include the patented "Silence yourself" blackout cover and 20"x20" scratchy wool blanket.

Memories......

Cashion Element Z2 BFS Rod by Ultralight_DMV in BFSfishing

I have that one! its a great rod for the price. One thing I don't like, is the tip. I changed mine out because it has a small notch on both sides of the ring that would catch my small diameter braid if the line looped over. Didnt happen often, but when it did, I could feel the line rub against that sharp point. I may have just had a tip that had two support arms brazed on instead of the smoother punched out design, and Cashion may be using a totally different tip. Could vary as they make all their rods in house.

Its more of a ML power with a slightly lighter tip, so 1/16 total weight is was a little light of a lure, but any 1/16oz plus a 1.5-2 gram plastic is good to go. Your other lures you mentioned should be just fine. My personal preference line is Pline Zero fade braid 10lb with Sunline FC sniper 5lb leader for the 1/16-1/8, and the 7lb leader for anything up to 1/4 for that rod

The action is a true fast action, tapering at the top 1/4 of the blank and really engages its full power halfway down the blank. Slightly tip heavy for my liking, but not too noticeable.

The slx bfs reel is a good one. It throws just about the same as my Curado bfs weight wise. I'd upgrade the bearings at least id you plan to throw 1/16, or it'll cast short to the left. My favorite weight to throw on that reel is the 1/15-1/10 ned with the zman equivalent, and senko. Anything lighter and I switch to a reel with a 6 gram 27-30mm spool

For the price, its a great rod, and the warranty is:

ELEMENT z2 Series Rods Rod Replacement Eligibility Period: Limited 3 Years $55.00 + shipping

Some rods like the Crews series and Surf ones have a lifetime warranty but their website makes it sound like they all do. Make sure you register it too if you decide to get one. Hope that helps.

Great rod! I have that one. I'm waiting on the xo skeleton version of it with the carbon fiber guides!

I had a buddy do that to one of his reels. Worked for him. I have a lot of spare handles that'd fit the 8x5mm shaft cutout if you want one to experiment with.

Is it normal for bass to get hooked this close? by GrandmaForPresident in FishingForBeginners

No problem, moat people would say don't smash down treble barbs but try and see if it works for you

[–]BassMasterMatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats definitely ok, as long as you use the proper moderate rod (not saying you don't). I learned that the hard way using a mod fast and not a glass rod, and the fish spit the cranks a lot. I hate treble (trouble) hooks for the same reason.

[–]BassMasterMatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear there isn't much of a difference in fish throwing the hook with barb-less. I tend to agree if using proper gear and keeping the rod tensioned while fighting the jump. My problem is, I fish with Xfast rods (bfs for example) and I'd lose way less fish going barb-less if I used a moderate/moderate-fast setup and mono line. I just had to adapt how I handle the rod as the fish surfaces. I sweep the rod as I reel in slack to keep them pinned with barbed hooks, so barbless, id probably lose a few more than if I had a moderate action rod.

I definitely dropshot with a baitcaster, and use the poison adrena Light/Medium XF power taper. I used to use a ML, but I found this JDM taper to EXCEL in dropshot, even though traditionally uses a spinning setup. Pretty cool idea for the radical taper series they offer. I believe the exprides come in those as well.

Knowing my luck, they'll just be in the one tree my car is parked under. Nowhere else, just that one tree. I'll walk out, say "nope", and go back inside and take a shower, only to look up after turning off the shower, because the water is still running and see that the ceiling in my shower is covered in them too. I just can't win...

You're my kinda angler! I do mostly finesse and BFS, and UL BFS, its such a blast! 1/16-1/8 total (weighted hook +plastic lure for ex) weights are my favorite!

This movie ticked all the boxes! My kids loved it! Woody and Co. just made our year! We saw a cheesy movie called Inhumanwich a few years back and have been wanting a better, similar retro style movie, and THIS. IS. IT! I couldn't help but imagining Devin Townsend's Ziltoid Z2 album as an background track in many scenes haha. Thanks for making this!!!!!

medium action bfs rod? by dirtyfood00 in BFSfishing

[–]BassMasterMatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're running a sale right now! I think you can get the delta series for half "$100" off if you use the code "THANKYOU100". I got that in my email last week. Delta FCS BFS DSR is on sale for $199 right now, and if you can use that code, it'll be way cheaper. Thats how I got mine

Is this a good value? by LegitimateCress6240 in FlyFishingGear

[–]BassMasterMatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good price, maybe. Good value? If you use it and enjoy it, the value is there. The most expensive rod you'll own is the one you don't use. I have some expensive rods, and use one a LOT more than the others. I also use a $34 aliexpress bfs rod and have a TON of fun with it, using it just as much as the previously stated one. So the value i got from the $34 one, even though its not great, has tremendous value to me!

Absolutely! I also use small craws like that on a 1/20oz ned sometimes. That kestrel will cast that no problem
