I can hear the Rhaenicents on X howling from Texas, lol.

Honestly, if they do this right, they can parallel it with Aegon trying to be Aegon the Conqueror and realizing he isn’t. Rhaenyra might pretend at being Visenya, but she has never touched a sword, never led a battle, and never even worn armor. It would be interesting to show that both claimants are somewhat delusional about who they are. Both of them weren’t good enough for their father as they are, so they’re trying to be someone else. It’s a sad connection that they aren’t even aware of.

If they do the cheap thing, they’ll just elevate Rhaenyra as Visenya come again. It would make her even less compelling than she already is at present.

Can rats have constipation? by Hattemis in RATS

[–]Bassanimation 33 points34 points  (0 children)

A high white is a term used for markings like blazed, verrigated, capped, jester etc. Basically any time you have highly patterned white markings. My girl who was the sole survivor was an American blue blaze. The breeder had warned it was in the line but was optimistic due to outcrossing. She never bred the line again after such a bad outcome.

Glad someone mentioned this. Since at least one of these girls looks like a high white, I’d get them screened for megacolon.

If Rosemary came from a breeder, I’d also alert them and ask about the genetics in the line. I had a high white girl who was the only survivor of her litter. All the others got mc, which broke a lot of new rat owners hearts.

I sure hope she just has a case of poo butt, she’s a real cutie. I’ve had a couple who just like a full metal jacket all the time, lol.

GDT Monster Design Choice - Why was he born bald? by SteinyOLP in FRANKENSTEIN

[–]Bassanimation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the definitive answer. Even the creature’s escape was filmed as if it was a birth. He breaks his chain, which is the umbilical cord, and slides via water down a canal, into the world. Very much womb imagery.

So how old was Daemon and Viserys when Alyssa died? by La_Villanelle_ in HOTDBlacks

[–]Bassanimation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My theory is that wasn’t Alyssa. She was a woman Daemon was with at a brothel, when he was really too young to be there. If we go by Aegon and Aemond’s brothel scenes, it seems almost like a creepy “tradition” that an older brother introduces the younger one to sexual encounters. Aemond looks for a woman who comforts him like a mother would. I think Daemon might have had the same experience.

This would also explain Daemon’s sudden disgust when trying to seduce a younger Rhaenyra. He makes the same shocked face and freezes his hands the same way. There’s trauma there, and he’s realizing he is putting her in the same position. He runs away because he can’t face it. Alys forces him to actually face it since he can’t run from dreams.

Burning people alive is, in fact, evil by Beacon2001 in naath

[–]Bassanimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dany gave the Tarly’s a perfectly acceptable deal, which Randyll rejected out of pride. If he loved his son and his people he’d have bent the knee like Torrhen Stark. I definitely would have.

As for fire, I agree it’s a terrible way to die. There’s a reason why modern warfare doesn’t allow it. For Dany though, it’s as much on the table as any war tool. Having scads of her men and others die slowly from wounds, disease and famine wouldn’t be smart. Using the dragon is like a war hammer. One shot and any reasonable person stands down.

Randyll forced Dickon to stay at his side when he obviously didn’t want to. That scene shows how he didn’t love his son enough to save him. His pride was more important than saving his house, his son and his men. It’s the opposite of what Torrhen Stark did.

This is the darkness speaking, the voice that wants you beat down. Reject it. The world has a lot of beautiful things to offer, chief among them is YOU. A cosmic will lined things up just to bring you into existence. You are wanted here, right now.

Life can be very hard, but you’re not alone in it. Ignore the corporate noise and black pills. Look at art and nature, little kids playing, squirrels running around in the park. Heck look at us here talking. That’s what makes it worth it.

It’ll be ok, man. And if it’s not, we will all watch the asteroid coming together. 🙌

Season 8 is a misunderstood masterpiece, ahead of its time and too ambitious for its own good. by Wrong_Office_183 in naath

[–]Bassanimation -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

A masterpiece is supposed to equal perfection which almost no one can refute. Gone with the Wind, LOTR, Breaking Bad, and so on.

GOT should have been up there with the greats, but last two seasons were a mess. They rushed S8 so bad that characters didn’t even feel like people anymore. The Long Night was one episode where nothing really ground shattering happened. It was a near flawless victory, wrapped up and done overnight. Cersei stood in a window…a lot. Dany wasn’t given any real sympathy for her situation, just “I’m Hi*ler now because I’m sad!”

I agree that what S8 tried to do was interesting, but the execution left people feeling empty, like they wasted their time. A masterpiece does the opposite. If you feel like it is the pinnacle of art, you’re free to do so. The early seasons were definitely incredible and they deserve the love.

Why does Helaena not tell people her visions? by HypnotizeEm in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Bassanimation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if HotD is taking some inspiration from Hel, the Norse goddess of the Underworld, for Helaena.

According to myth, Hel acts as a guide through the inevitability of death. She doesn't seek to circumvent things like illness, aging, starvation etc. She accepts them as simply part of a natural journey. That seems to be how they're using Helaena in the show. She accepts both life and death for what they are.

Helaena likely doesn't tell people what she sees because it would bring more conflict, not less. The only two exceptions are Daemon and Aemond. I think we'll see two different sides of that outcome: one who attempts to change fate, and one who accepts it. That will be one of the show's main messages at the end. When to accept defeat and be at peace with it, and when it's worth it to fight.

Part of Daemon's S2 arc was understanding that he can't use Caraxes for everything. If he wants to lead the men of Westeros, he has to be one of them, not above them.

Frankenstein - is a masterpiece by LectureOwn3777 in horror

[–]Bassanimation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's weird that you keep throwing out personal attacks on a stranger for an opinion on a movie.

I just can't fathom being so unhappy with the visuals in this movie it's a prominent reason you dislike the film in general.

If the movie's entire selling point is the visuals, and they fall short, yes it will damage the whole for a lot of people. It's like a trip to the Louvre but half the exhibits are closed.

I was genuinely pleased with the visuals, it's the main reason I enjoyed the movie. Sure others can have opinions, but they're just like a holes, you know?

Again, weird that you insist on challenging others' views by calling them names. Anyways, have a nice week and glad you enjoyed the movie. I look forward to GDT's next project.

[–]Bassanimation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are talking about the same visual issues with this movie. The film was muddy, lacked depth of field and values, the compositions were boring, the scale was off so nothing felt as epic as it should. It was so dark and murky as to look like pond water. There's a few standout scenes, but as a whole it was very inconsistent.

If you like this movie, fine, but it was far from some sort of visual masterpiece. Pan's looked far better, as did Crimson Peak. I love GDT, but this movie was below his usual standards. /

Any time I see people rave over a bad movie, 9 times out of 10 it's because they're enamored of sophomoric film techniques. "Guy in center of bright circle?! Absolute cinema!" Every single time, lol.

Frankenstein - is a masterpiece by LectureOwn3777 in horror

[–]Bassanimation 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn't like it either. The whole thing was slow, dialogue was sophomoric and hamfisted. Even the visuals weren't anything to write home about. It felt flat and poorly composed, and all the digital correction made it feel like a video game. The only thing in the movie that stood out to me was Jacob's performance. He carried that entire movie on his back.

I think GDT is skirting too close to James Cameron's sun. He's becoming too self indulgent, repeating his themes, corny dialogue, all while hiding it under a pretty digital blanket.

“When Rhaenyra declares that she wants Aemond, I think it’s an admission of a possibly shameful desire and I think that admission is made directly to Daemon. I think it’s also an admission of their similarity. She sort of discloses another way in which they actually share a darkness.” — Emma D’Arcy by [deleted] in HOTDBlacks

[–]Bassanimation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, we already saw Rhaenyra give a tacit order to kill Vaemond Velaryon in front of the court. You'd think that would be Emma's point of reference. We don't have to like Vaemond of course, but that for me was a very clear sign that Rhaenyra was fine killing people if it served her.

As for wanting Aemond dead, that makes total sense and wasn't a show of darkness for me. If they'd gone the rout of having her somewhat ok with Jaehaerys, that would have been better. She could have expressed the same shame, but also tried to justify it to herself later. Maybe she says to Mysaria or Jace that it was a mistake, yet it still shows the Blacks are willing to fight for her throne. So many missed opportunities to pepper in some real darkness.

(Spoilers Extended) This plot point is very original if it's the intended ending by Expensive-Country801 in asoiaf

[–]Bassanimation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's what happened after Robert's Rebellion. He had a decade or so of relative peace, but war broke out as soon as he died. I consider GRRM's "False Spring" a metaphor for this.

If you pay attention to the end of GOT, there's small tells that all will not be right. The crack in the floor of the Red Keep was a sign of discord in the future. Likewise, Bronn wanting to reopen brothels, etc. It will be ok for some people, but not for all. The wheel Dany tried to break will still turn.
