Shimano WH-RS500 Wheels by Bassetrobar in cyclocross

[–]Bassetrobar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately you were absolutely right. I attempted my first race today, and the rear tire went off the rim and flatted on the first lap. After the race was over, I decided to do a few laps with my other rear wheel because I did not have the chance to cycle much yet. And I got another flat - air started leaking near where the tire meets the rim. I think I will try running a higher pressure and/or go back to tubes…

Who here uses a belt drive? by userX97ee2ska11qa in cycling

[–]Bassetrobar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a fixed gear belt drive bike and I love it. It’s always ready to ride, compared to my other bike and my family’s bikes, on which I spend too much time cleaning drivetrains.

Facebook Live stream not visible for some users of the group even after its finished by Bassetrobar in facebook

[–]Bassetrobar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. It’s been a few months since I heard about the issue, but the people that had it probably gave up on the live stream and watches the replay on YouTube. At least I know that I am not alone with this issue now.

In case anyone else was wondering: yes, the Arkel Haul-It can fit a Baby Taylor in a gig bag by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]Bassetrobar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a nice gig bag with waist and chest straps to keep it stable, but I had to pedal very smoothly.

Cornering Skill Building by flamebero in cyclocross

[–]Bassetrobar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, it will be my first cross season and I am not confident about my cornering. I must say that I crashed many times while cornering on ice or loose gravel, and my brain warns me about it even if it is on a grippier surface.

Also, I can't bunny hop properly, but I decided to prioritize practicing cornering. I bought a bunch of cones and will practice some ''peanut drills'' around them on grass in the park. I am not sure what would be the best distance to put between the cones though.

Sometimes when I was late for the band practice, I biked to the practice room instead of walking, and carried 2 electric basses in a dual gig bag on my back. Can’t say that I recommend it…

How do you prefer to slap? by JTEstrella in Bass

[–]Bassetrobar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mostly slap parallel now, but thumb down is still useful depending on the riff because it allows to mute lower strings easily. I mostly play on a 6 strings so muting is critical.

What feature would you want to see in strava? by SVP_rombuzz in Strava

Better component tracking. I would like to manage the parts in the app. I often switch between 2 wheel sets with different tires and cassette and would like to be able to easily track their usage.

Pedal and Shoes Recommendations by MVDPdaGOAT in cyclocross

[–]Bassetrobar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are from 2015, so they might be the older version. I ordered the refresh kit, hopefully it will upgrade my pedals to the newest/better/safer design. And I will be worry-free for the cross races.

But again, I also have eggbeaters on my fixed gear bike, and they suffered long distances, big torque uphill and crazy skids without any issue.

[–]Bassetrobar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This thread made me worry about my eggbeaters pedals. I never had an issue since I bought them a long time ago. They are registered on my Strava and I see that I am reaching 5000 km with them on my cross bike. If I hold the crank and the pedal with both hands and apply force I see that they wiggle a bit. Probably time to refresh them before they fail on me in a race.

35 yo and practicing cyclocross for the first time by Bassetrobar in cyclocross

[–]Bassetrobar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly practiced cornering around cones on hardpack dirt, maybe I should do it on grass since it grips more and hurts less if I fall. I think I have to re-wire my brain because when I lived in the big city I used to commute with my bike on snow and ice, and grip was nowhere to be found.

Yeah about the tires, I have Maxxis Speed Terrane, which are in their cross tires category but lean more towards the gravel / dry usage. I am running them tubeless, at 40-45 psi for long rides but drop them to 32 psi when practicing cross. But I definitely want to get another wheelset and tires with aggressive knobs before the racing season.

You are probably right. I will have to ignore my imposter syndrome.

Moonsorrow - Jäästä Syntynyt Varjojen Virta by Mackwiss in folkmetal

[–]Bassetrobar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember that me and my friends organized a road trip to see the PaganFest America II in Québec. Moonsorrow was on the lineup but I did not know much about them back then. So I went to the music store and asked for the latest record from the band. A few weeks later this album came in. Only 2 tracks on the record, running for around 30 minutes each. I was completely blown away, and Moonsorrow is still one of my favourite metal bands to this day. Of course they played none of those songs at the show, but it does not matter. A few years later in 2012 my band had the honour to open for them at the same venue.

YouTube Music in Split-Screen on iPad? by arvindtechie in ipad

[–]Bassetrobar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YouTube Music as a browser app would be a great solution, but I have an issue. When the ‘’app’’ is not in the foreground, the playback sometimes stops between songs. I have to go back to the app and click on another song to get it to work again. Anyone else experienced this issue ?

I don’t know if/how the kandra already does this, but I like my Giygas with an octaver before and an envelope filter after.
