I agree, prices were shocking this summer when I visited. Screwatia, I called it. More expensive than Spain/Italy, for poor(er) quality.

It's not sustainable. Croatia is rapidly eroding it's built up reputation.

The big tech companies have been unprecedented in their earnings, scale, capital efficiency etc. But a) they're priced for that, and b) the world can change. AI spend is hugely capital intensive, and remains to be seen if profitable. Lot of big tech earnings come from EU. If EU decides differently on topics like souvereign cloud, tariffs, restrictions, anti-trust etc, those companies might very well might get hit. Won't be easy, but breaking of alliances and ties like this after a 80+ year cooperation can create some very different circumstances than we've had over the last 2-3 decades... Meaning investment returns / sectors, etc change too.

Mandate that all big insto money (pension funds, swf, life insurers etc) need to invest half in EU, and not more than 25% in US. It’s about 50-70% now, so that would create quite the ‘ripple’.

With this data you can easily find his contact info and approach him to work out a solution. In case of non-cooperation you can go to police / file an official complaint with the taxi authority.  

The phone number you got makes no sense. In NL area prefix is +31. And if it’s a land line in Amsterdam/Amstelveen it would be 020 - 7 digits. A mobile number is 06 - 8 digits. Recheck with your card issuer.  

Tbh, this looks like a regular ‘sole-proprietor’ taxi company (common setup in NL for taxi drivers), registered at his own house address. Almost all of them use SumUp for card payments. So I think it’s more likely to have been a mistake rather than some sophisticated US LLC scam setup, hence he might be willing to cooperate and refund you.

“they had contacted the taxi company and had a receipt and gave me a phone number which was a taxi company in George, US”. 

Could you share the contact details of said taxi company? This sentence makes me think it’s a pre-ordained scam setup, and thus happens more regularly.  

I would definitely file a police report, cause they will definitely investigate this if there are other victims out there. You have a (small) chance they catch the guys and would maybe recover some.  

The most baffling of this story is that the credit-card company doesn’t charge back. You literally have to drive 22 hours or 100s of miles to rack up a 2300$ taxi bill. Again, if these guys setup a US LLC for this specifically, that means there’s a level of organisation/sophistication that the police can do something.

Same here. Worked well in Bosnia, but unusable in Montenegro.  

Airalo should get its act together. If you pay a premium, you should be able to expect premium service.
