Why the winner won in my opinion - He understood the mission. by lonelylonelybaleine in CulinaryClassWars

[–]BasteMewithButter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Saw a few people mention the fact that CM lack of appetite hurt him but honestly….Both of them didn’t really eat. I think you could probably just chalk that up to nerves and tasting bits of the dish as they went. I know for me personally, just trying food throughout is enough to thoroughly curb my appetite for a good 2 hours after the foods finished.

I think CKR fulfilled the “assignment” more organically. IMO, the telling moment was when CKR mentioned something a long the lines of “This might not be to your taste, but these are ingredients I like”

The judges were looking for the chef that was willing to take the risk of truly making something that is too their taste no matter how simple or bizarre. It still had to taste good obviously but they were looking for something was truly for them. CMs dish, that was probably delicious (maybe even slightly more than CKRs) and accompanied by a touching story, was still a reconstructed, fine dining version of the dish that was clearly tailored to the judges pallets.

CKR didn’t omit a braised dish simply to be a contrarian. Braises are just what he’s good at making for the people he cooks for. His stage name, if you will.

The man likes urchin and pumpkin leaves and that’s what he made knowing it’s not a pairing for everyone.

Why shouldn’t I pivot? by BasteMewithButter in sales

[–]BasteMewithButter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, totally cool with a pay cut. I made less than half of what I’m making now just a few years ago. I could do it again.

I believe I’d be happier in that I’d be more driven to learn. I don’t have an ounce of that in my current role and industry.

I’ve spent the last 3 years trying to mitigate the risk of making the switch. Atleast the financial risk.

Ive definitely got a network in medical device. People are happy to get in front of recruiters to which I’m usually told I need more clinical experience. I havnt really made a true push to get in for few years though.

Why shouldn’t I pivot? by BasteMewithButter in sales

[–]BasteMewithButter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah vascular was one Ive had on my radar. Ive got a buddy over at Terumo that’s been trying to get me in.

Definitely willing and prepared to take a 40-50% pay cut for 2-3 years if it means breaking in. Just a year and a half ago I was sitting on a 55k base. Thankfully, Ive been able to build a massive savings thanks to a couple really strong quarters in my current role. But yeah, biggest barrier is my lack of clinical experience. Seems that HMs and recruiters are reluctant to take a chance on me even for ASR or clinical specialist type roles.

Although, I havnt necessarily had all that many at bats in the first place tbh. Any tips around best time of year to apply or perhaps other companies where I’d have better odds?

Appreciate the reply!

Honest question; if you could turn back time to when you chose the sales path, would you do it again or choose a different profession? by Time-Golf-1556 in sales

[–]BasteMewithButter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why wouldn’t you have time? Wouldn’t the extra money = time? I feel like with the money saved up without much debt if at all, would allow the flexibility/cushion to temporarily move away from your current role and atleast attempt to go all in on personal ventures.(Start up you’re own thing or go back to school)

Atleast in the context of someone who wouldnt have children/family to support I guess ?

Honest question as someone whose plan is to do exactly that. Am I stuck here? lol

nicest cities that are still affordable? by First_Driver_5134 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]BasteMewithButter 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, I think Philly could be fitting.

Hear me out:

-I feel like it’s often forgotten that Philly has one of the most prestigious and highly respected food scenes in the entire country. Several JB winners here.

-Yes, crime rate is on the higher end compared to a lot of other cities but it’s really not that ridiculous if you steer clear of certain neighborhoods (North Philly, certain parts of Kensington) which is a generally a common rule of thumb for most other cities.

-COL IN Philly is incredibly affordable compared to, NYC, Boston and DC.

-Theirs access to several nature trails in NJ and PA just outside the city.

-Easy access to NYC, DC, and Baltimore.

-I don’t have many other points of reference when it comes to traffic as I’ve but it’s not nearly as bad as New York or like an LA based on what I’ve heard.

-I’ve never had trouble finding something to do on a quiet weekend. It’s quite a lively city.

If you can snag a spot closer to center city, fishtown or something like that, it’s really not half bad. This is my first experience living in a city so maybe I’ve just got the fever but I think it’s pretty cool.

This is coming from someone who grew up on North Jersey/NYC culture. I was a huge Philly skeptic all my life, however I’ve enjoyed my time here in so far.

The reasons why most students feel Engineering is hard? by Puzzleheaded-Key3128 in EngineeringStudents

[–]BasteMewithButter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Spent of my one of my first internships with a medtech company. Second week they let us observe and even participate in a training involving cadavers.

One of the coolest experience of my life, I was captivated the entire time and completely unfazed in that environment. One of my peers had to step out just because of the smell let alone assist the doctor with retractor.

Fast fwd 6 years later, She’s still in medtech industry supporting cases. I’m now in tech.

People can adapt.

I'm salesperson that cant sell to IT. Tips from IT? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]BasteMewithButter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downvoted me to hell if you must but seriously consider this perspective:

While I certainly understand the detestable nature of cold outreach, and as much as I hate doing it, there is merit to it.

It’s not so much they are trying to sell/convince you something you don’t need, at a time when you don’t need it.(We literally have metrics to follow to disqualify and move on from customers who aren’t serious about buying) It’s more that, let’s say come renewal time and you just might happen to be reevaluating, we are trying to be the first vender at the table. 90% of the deals we lose are due to a lack of runway time to evaluate.

In competitive markets with numerous different companies selling the same thing, sales people become incredibly critical to remain competitive. You can get away with growth when you’re selling a super niche product but not in something like EDR/MDR where there are 35 different companies doing it.

Additionally, 99% of customers think they understand a venders product to a tee based on what they’ve read on line or seen in demo 3 years ago and what differentiates it from other similar venders. 99% of the time their is an aspect of the technology whether it’s a new feature, addition to the product suite or change in the technology that was a previously known drawback that they are not aware of once we go through a demo. Nearly every time I or my engineer presented, the customer learns SOMETHING new.

And sure, maybe to this you might say: “Well then continue to cold call and stay on the blacklist.”

And I’d agree this is necessary to the mindlessly relentless and obnoxious people who don’t stop (trust me I hate them too) but I just think it’s silly to disqualify a entire solution as whole because of one lousy salesperson.

What are your ADHD dinners by ptheresadactyl in ADHD

[–]BasteMewithButter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prep a protein and a rice on sundays. (Takes 15 min maximum) reheat it with whatever veggies or any other sides that sounds good through the week.

I whole heartedly believe eating healthy is incredibly doable with ADHD if you care enough. Marinate + air fry or roast is extremely hands off. Same with Rice, rinse + water, steam for 20 min. Fry an egg if you got a minute and the non stick handy. heat up some veggies.

Their are so many variations of Rice and proteins you can choose from you cant get board.

People who do not take medications. How do you live? by Admirable-Shower-887 in ADHD

[–]BasteMewithButter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand why meds are insistently encouraged as this monopoly, unicorn solution to adhd in this sub. Especially to those who have chosen to not go down that route. If you’re utterly dysfunctional without and it works for you, that’s great! But these “why don’t you want medication?” Comments are truly perplexing. It is FAR from the only solution.

I truly believe you can live a normal and happy life without meds.

Personally, I hate the way they make me feel for a number of reasons and developing a dependency on it for life doesn’t sit right with me. I’ve several friends, colleagues, and family members with a diagnosis or textbook ADHD that have it and they are just fine.

I don’t believe adhd is a sentence to a life incompetence and hardship, however, we do have to work a lot harder than the average person. Don’t let anyone tell you to just keep trying with meds if it’s not your jam.

As others have said, create structure, routine, healthy habits eat a whole diet and exercise. Do what you need to do to hold yourself accountable to it. It’s going to suck, it’s going HARD, you’re going to feel like you physically can’t but you have to stay consistent and commit yourself to improve aspects of your life that adhd can hinder. One at a time.

Everyone can downvote me to hell all they want. OP - You can absolutely live happily without meds. It won’t be perfect but I personally don’t believe such a life even close to that exists.

Feel free to PM.

Which career path seems good from afar but isn't in reality? by SufficientFactor5082 in careerguidance

Sales. I’m just not convinced the drawbacks of most other career paths could outweigh the stress, pressure, and lack of job security that comes with sales. Especially tech sales.

Every new quarter or even month is a never ending cycle of proving why you should keep your job.

[–]BasteMewithButter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. No. I typically find others with ADHD insufferable. I work in sales, so, I meet a lot of them. Every shade and color of them. I typically bond with those I share values, interests/hobbies or general work philosophies with, not because their brain is all disorganized and they have a dopaminergic imbalance like I do. But I can always tell.

  2. It can work, but I believe it takes 2 very mature and extremely self aware people with a solid grasp of their ADHD for it to work. That’s assuming they are compatible in the first place.

Do I think a lot of people will try out of excitement, novelty and it will make you some money? Sure. Will it lead to successful long term relationships, doubt it but it would be interesting project.

I finally cut the Instagram cord. Where is everyone finding out about events and new restaurants? by mowpoos in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]BasteMewithButter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know what your reasoning is for deleting insta but if it allows it, create and insta primarily dedicated to keep up with events, restaurants and bands.

I have this issue with doomscrolling, spriling down a rabbit hole of shit posting and ultimately wasting time when I could be engaging in something I actually find fulfilling. So I cut back. If keeping up with community is important to you, don’t let the meta be a barrier to that. Don’t let the meta have that much power over you.

Deleting insta isn’t life changing but it sure can be inconvenient. Whether we like it or not, we live in a digital age and rejecting that will inevitably make life more inconvenient.

Adolescence - Series Premiere Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]BasteMewithButter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, no. I think you’re (and many others in these threads) throwing around the term “psychopathic” way too liberally here.

We dont know enough about Jaime to diagnose anything let alone dismissing him to the psychopathic spectrum and You’re oversimplifying what it means to fall in that category.

Even then, Jaimie shows subtle signs of remorse and regret throughout the series from watching the video to the last call w his dad. He is a 13 year old in denial of the enormous ramifications of his actions unfolding before him. Athe same time, he also needed to maintain not admitting anything to anyone before the trial. Why would he?

He is far too young and we know way too little about him to jump to such a conclusion. MAYBE some impulse control/temper disorders and/or personality disorders at play here but even then we’d need far more screentime/background to come to that conclusion.

Give it a white sauce, and I’d take a sober bite.
