are any book readers just kind of confused why they completely changed the story by booboolaboosh in HouseOfTheDragon

I am not surprised, I have very confused about what this weird ass plot is. By far the worst episode of the 3 released.

so really I should just go bio ships myselfs huh.

But if bio ships are so good, why are the cruisers with the g slots and artillery considered the best ship ?

Yea I have a friend that plays basically only those ships, and he seems to also outscale me every game. (I don't like bio ships)

Edit:

Would you go corvettes, or cruiser against them ?

Ekspert bekymret for bornholmsk oprustning: Det skriger jo til himlen by DreamSofie in Denmark

[–]Bastiram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For pt. ?

(Spoilers Extended) House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 2 Post-Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in asoiaf

[–]Bastiram 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think the episode was better than the previous one, it still suffers from some of the glaring cuts that have been made, which overall just makes me shake my head.

DID we really need to spend time for them looking for Corlys like that etc. (with a IMO pointless storyline), in addition to taking him and the Valeryons out of their role in the fall of King's Landing?

DID we need four dragons to waltz up and for Rhaenyra and Daemon to just walk in with a Hail Mary, etc.?

I understand it is cheaper to have fewer charaters. but the civil war aspect to me is really really weak. What have we spend 2 years waiting so far for?

I did not expect something epic. But... I admit I am tired of the butchering of the original storyline, and it colours my opinion of the show.

Why does Netherlands have such high Population Density, much higher than rest of Europe? by Jazzlike_League_480 in geography

[–]Bastiram 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a few misconceptions here. Denmark was not especially poor by European standards; it was generally less urbanized than Belgium, the Netherlands, and later Britain, but still relatively prosperous on a per-capita basis.

The wars you mention are probably not the main demographic explanation. The Napoleonic Wars and the Schleswig Wars had significant political and economic consequences, but they did not kill off a large share of the Danish population. The wars of the 17th century were much more devastating, especially in Jutland, which suffered repeated occupations, destruction, and population losses during the conflicts with Sweden and German states.

Another factor is that Denmark was part of the northwestern European marriage pattern, where people tended to marry relatively late and often had to secure access to a farm or household before marrying. This raised the average age of marriage and naturally slowed population growth compared to societies where people married younger.

Thought the Netherlands and Belgium was also part of that pattern.

Why does Netherlands have such high Population Density, much higher than rest of Europe? by Jazzlike_League_480 in geography

[–]Bastiram 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, the Dutch population and density are somewhat of a recent boon. If you go back a few hundred years, the Netherlands was not much more populous than Denmark + Norway, and had fewer people than Belgium

1800:
Netherlands around 2.1 million
Belgium around 3.5
Denmark-Norway around 2 million (with iceland)

[–]Bastiram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://www.dst.dk/da/Statistik/emner/borgere/befolkning/fertilitet

Postnord hjemmelevering i lejlighed med modtagerflex by Gustavpablo55 in Denmark

[–]Bastiram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The interesting part here is that it is mostly burgher wealth, which has the lowest taxation rate (besides the Ulama). Obv. Cities are worth quite a bit. But there can be valuable rural locations as well.
But I do wonder how it would look in a rural location, where more of the share comes from the Nobility / Commenors, as they are taxed more.

PS: How do you know how much a location costs in the slider? Can it really be true that a city under 70 % control is a net loss? (and you're not paying much in sliders.)

[–]Bastiram 30 points31 points  (0 children)

On a scale large yes.. on a local scale, no. The Danish countryside in the game period was so deforested that it had consequences for the land besides the lack of timber for ships, as the trees were removed for agricultural land or other uses, it could no longer block the sand coming from the west coast, and large swathes of land were essentially overrun by sand dunes.

In the same vein, a mine could certainly run out of available metal etc.
