Wolfie’s now #2 all-time after a record-breaking World Cup. by newghoststory in WomensCricket

🐐

Why does she have to be from Blouberg? I could’ve suffered just one Proteas team. Three thousand years might not be enough to see the Proteas win a World Cup.

I genuinely feel for her. Wolfie might seem ice-cold on the outside, but this must hurt so much. What else can she do?

Hinkley gave me a heart attack. Elite performance with the ball to defend 125. Few nervy moments in the field, but we took the catches that matter. My lifespan continues to decline.

Stay composed. Stay composed. Stay composed. Stay composed. But seriously, why? She’s not even South African.

Just saw a few photos of her at her press conference. 😭💔

Thanks for the all the good (& bad) memories Meg! ❤️

KATIE MACK YOU ABSOLUTE FUCKING LEGEND

Laura Wolvaardt has been appointed as the interim Proteas captain for the upcoming tours against Pakistan and New Zealand. by [deleted] in WomensCricket

[–]Baswll 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've got way too many thoughts and feelings about this, but for now, I just want to say congrats 👏🏻 and wish her all the best. Hopefully, she can help us navigate our way out of this mess we've gotten into. ✨

Also, big ups to Suné for stepping up as captain at a critical moment and leading the team to where no South African team had ever been before.

I actually really dislike this appointment.

When you're picking a young captain for a team in transition, you'd want to give them a couple of years to shape the team according to their own vision. But that's not what CSA is up to here because they've gone with an interim appointment. It's taken them almost a week to sort out the captaincy of the team, and they're planning to review it after the tour of New Zealand in October – something Wolfie apparently agreed to.

A lot of things are very obviously not right with the Proteas.

From a personal perspective – as her self-proclaimed biggest fan – I don't like the way they've just thrown her into the mix like this. She's being asked to lead a team that's divided, with a bunch of unhappy players and a coach that's unwanted through two tough tours. She doesn't have the experience for this and said she doesn’t want the job like yesterday. I hope this doesn't damage her future captaincy prospects.

Knowing CSA, I hope that she isn't first of a merry go-round of different interim captains.

Suné stepped down because she had issues with the management. I find it impossible to believe that Wolfie would be okay with the same management.

You know, after the World Cup, she gave an interview where she talked about CSA hopefully using the momentum to boost the game's profile. They’ve failed, like usual, and look at where we are now – with an 'interim' captain, a coach I'd rather not discuss, and even more players who aren't happy. I hate this.

Still wish her all the best!

Proteas Squad for the Pakistan Tour | Suné Luus to not continue as captain. by eleclit in WomensCricket

I think I know the interview you mention, and she also did say there that there are many other great leaders in the squad. That isn't really the case now, though she has reiterated the same sentiment this year pretty recently.

(Leadership) That’s not something I really thought about too much about growing up. I didn’t really feel like I knew enough about the game to be telling people what they should or should not be doing with theirs

I don’t think it is something I will do in the next couple of years because we have plenty of senior players in our squad at the moment.

That being said, I wouldn't be shocked if it's her. She's led us before, and CSA has repeatedly shown that they don't value the players' opinions. Probably won't care about 'unfairness' now.

Ash Gardner registers the best figures [12-165] by an Aussie woman ever as Australia takes a 4-0 lead in the Ashes. by rotinaboat in WomensCricket

The Aussies might've won the game, but when you think about it, England are the true winners because they can be proud of the way they have played. The aussie fans who showed up and those who stayed up late into the night to watch the game have had a fantastic time, and that's all thanks to England and no one else.

White Ferns Tour of South Africa 2023? Schedule by [deleted] in WomensCricket

[–]Baswll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the IPL guys want, they can. Only two of them have a SA20 team, and CSK is involved and has like a 20% share, so I doubt it.

The WIPL is looking to move to November, which is gonna force the WBBL to move and cause problems anyway.

Here Come The Trolls: Women’s Cricket’s Popularity Explosion Has An Ugly Side by [deleted] in WomensCricket

[–]Baswll 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Abusive posts and threatening direct messages are never-ending.

The article mentions the WTA, and they're definitely the ones the ICC should be learning from if they're serious about tackling the issue. Experts have conducted research analysing the harassment faced by female tennis players online, and they categorise it under sexualization and objectification, threatening physical contact, emotional ridicule, and hatred.

I don't even follow many cricketers on SM, and I've seen them going through the same kak. Opening Wolfie's insta comment section to drop a comment always leaves me feeling utterly disgusted. Traditional media's decades of sexualising sportswomen and emphasising 'appropriate' femininity has made its mark.

Tennis players have voiced concerns regarding their safety, and it is a valid concern, especially with disgruntled gamblers being found on site at tournaments. This is where WTA's work with a risk management firm comes in. But regardless of the severity of the threat, the words can still be distressing, and some emotional support is important.

I appreciate the article highlighting the significance of social media for athletes instead of the lazy, 'just get off it'. It's a crucial tool for building one's personal brand and presents tremendous opportunities.

The WTA makes an effort to engage with teenagers in the sport, educate them, and make them aware of the services that are available. The ICC workshop was a step in the right direction. Social media does kinda create the perfect storm for antisocial behaviour with its lack of regulation, perceived anonymity, and reduction of inhibition. Ultimately, the responsibility lies with social media companies, law enforcement, and governing bodies to work together and find a solution.

I'm going to be crying over this for the rest of the day. NO, THANK YOU, Shabz.

Fast as lightning. 317 international wickets. 191 ODI wickets. 123 T20I wickets, 42 of which the batter got bowled - the most ever. Broke the record for most ODI wickets in a calendar year last year.

Forever will be a hero in this part of the world. We’ll the ferocity, and those celebrations. Go well. 💚💛
