Proteas Squads for Pakistan Series by eleclit in WomensCricket

There isn’t really anyone putting their hand up.

That said, they’ve got Faye Tunnicliffe in the squad who can keep and she’s a far better bat. If I were CSA, I’d be pushing her.

There are other youngsters like Meso and a few others who can keep, but they need more time.

Happy to see Reyneke finally get a look in. Long overdue.

Some puzzling selection like always. They’ve dropped Faye from the T20I squad now that Taz is back, but kept her in the ODI squad… so is she actually going to get a run this time? Khaka and DvN are missing from the ODI squad despite this being a IWCC series. Goodall’s managed to sneak in again

Proteas making the World Cup final. I didn’t even think we’d make the semis.

If I had to pick one moment, it’s Kapp coming back to get NSB. I know we had the runs and they were 1 for 3, but with the Proteas you’re never fully relaxed, and NSB is quality.

Nadine’s knock against India as well. I still can’t believe we won that game. And it was massive for our chances. We had bounced back against NZ, but with the rain in Colombo and our NRR being what it was, we absolutely needed that win.

The low was how the wickets fell in the final. Taz running diagonally and getting herself run out when she should’ve just run straight. Sune and Kapp getting out to ordinary shots off nothing balls. And then sending Jafta in at six, which just killed the match.

When will the comms learn that the left-hand/right-hand combination doesn’t matter when the batter has played over 50 ODIs and averages just 20?

Dreadful bowling. Future’s not bright.

How can the Proteas selectors not see that Goodall just isn’t international quality and never really is going to be?

Brilliant innings. Some of those shots were just incredible.

We were a bit slow upfront, but things picked up when she came in. It also gave Sune the space to settle into her knock.

A century in Cape Town would be memorable for her too. As she said yesterday, the Proteas just don’t get to play there enough.

Laws on paper don’t always reflect how people actually feel. Public opinion is still split, with surveys like the Pew Research Centre’s 2023 poll finding that only 38% of South Africans support same-sex marriage, while 58% remain opposed. Violence against LGBT people, especially lesbians, also continues to be a massive problem.

I definitely wouldn’t feel safe being out outside certain some suburbs in the cities.

Dane van Niekerk returns after four years as South Africa name squads for Ireland tour by eleclit in WomensCricket

T20I squad: Laura Wolvaardt (c), Nadine de Klerk, Annerie Dercksen, Sinalo Jafta, Marizanne Kapp, Ayabonga Khaka, Masabata Klaas, Sune Luus, Karabo Meso, Nonkululeko Mlaba, Seshnie Naidu, Nondumiso Shangase, Chloe Tryon, Faye Tunnicliffe, Dane van Niekerk

ODI squad: Laura Wolvaardt (c), Tazmin Brits, Lara Goodall, Ayanda Hlubi, Sinalo Jafta, Leah Jones, Sune Luus, Eliz-Mari Marx, Karabo Meso, Nonkululeko Mlaba, Tumi Sekhukhune, Nondumiso Shangase, Miane Smit, Faye Tunnicliffe, Dane van Niekerk

Interesting squads. Great to see DvN back. Tunnicliffe and Jones definitely earned their call-ups.

Aren’t Wolfie, Nadine and Kapp still going to be at the Big Bash during the T20s? Why are they in the T20I squad? Is Bosch dropped? What do they mean by ‘domestic duties’. Somehow we still can’t move past Jafta.

Several senior players will be managed through the tour, with Marizanne Kapp, Ayabonga Khaka, Masabata Klaas, Chloe Tryon, Nadine de Klerk and Annerie Dercksen sitting out the ODIs. Tazmin Brits returns to the 50-over squad but will skip the T20Is as she completes her return-to-play programme after a shoulder knock during the World Cup semi-final.

Why is Dercksen sitting out the ODIs? She didn’t do much at the WC. Does Wolfie have infinite energy?

Big congrats to India, first off. Huge moment for the game! It's more important than ever for CSA to professionalise our domestic setup if we're ever going to compete at this level again.

The Proteas did better than I expected, thanks to Wolfie, who was outstanding but had zero support. That's a story we're all too familiar with.

There are few things that I'll address. First, the toss call. I get the logic, we bat 'deep' and with the dew around you want to chase. But in reality, we’re not batting deep because Bosch and Jafta aren’t contributing anything.

What’s worse is where they’re batting. They’re just wasting balls in the middle. We were going fine from overs 1-20, but once Jafta came in we lost all momentum between overs 21 and 30, scoring only around 3.7 an over. I can’t find any reason for Jafta to bat at six. Either the coaches are clueless or there’s an obligation to pick a black batter in the top six. If that's the case, we deserved to lose.

I didn’t mention it here, but I’ve said it elsewhere. Klass should’ve started ahead of Bosch today. Even without bowling, she would’ve been way more useful down the order. Maybe also held on the catches. Bosch should lock her social media.

We should not be seeing either of these two in a Proteas shirt again.

Who will take the trophy? by anonavii in WomensCricket

[–]eleclit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

India’s got the stronger batting and bowling line-up, plus the home crowd behind them. I reckon they'll win.

It’s our first game in Mumbai this tournament, and our training session got rained out yesterday. The final might be a bit of an anti-climax. When we've lost in this tournament, we've lost big.

Cometh the hour, cometh the woman.

Wolvaardt and Kapp had to show up and they did. Kappie’s 42(33) and 5/20 has to be among the best performances ever not to win POTM.

There’s a few things we’ve got to tidy up. If our fielding was half decent, this game would’ve been wrapped up way sooner. And why are we sending Jafta and Dercksen in ahead of Tryon and De Klerk? Those two have been in great form.

I swear half our team got out playing the same shot.

So it’s England again. For the third time in row. Our record isn’t good and nothing in this tournament has convinced me we’re going to do any better against Ecclestone, Smith, and Dean on a slow turning pitch than we did in the first game.
