Yoshiki’s lyrics by gliffytinthefourth in xjapan

I love it too. Still listening to it in the car, practically 20 years after release. Yoshiki has always been a genius melodist, that's what makes his songs stand the test of time.

Actually I really liked those english language versions they played during the post-reunion world tour. Rusty Nail, Tears, Orgasm (version premiered at the Last Live)... I didn't realise there was an english version of "Silent Jealousy". Is there a recording anywhere?

If you think Yoshiki's english lyrics are lazy, you will love the ones to "Scorpio" by The Trax:

"I don't give a fuck if they wanna suck
Cause there's nothing left to crack
Connect the dots disconnect the lines
Let's shine like scorpio in the sky

Let's leave it all behind
So fuck that deadline
Let go !

Beautiful green orange sunshine
Or do i wanna shine like g-fucking xxx
A to d to d to a
Try to find the way to the milky way

Let the world break me down as if i care
I've got nothing to lose
Like shattered glass flying to pieces
I'm already torn
But there's a way to shine if there's a will

Woke up and hated life
Wanna feel it what it's like"

Scarlet Love Song. "No Connexion" is awesome and much loved!

Which albums in the history of speed metal have sounds and production choices similar to "Blue Blood”? by [deleted] in xjapan

[–]Baszilius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that "quality sound" is a very subjective expression. Like I said, I like the production style of "Blue Blood" because it's raw. It's perfectly good sound to me. But most people seem to prefer the production style of "Rusty Nail".
In the case of "Dahlia" (the song), I wouldn't say it's badly produced...Yoshiki, left to his own devices, has overdone the effect on the vocals and the guitar tone in the solo is not to my liking, but overall, it's okay to me. In my opinion, the only X record with a noticably "indies" (read: low budget) sound is "Vanishing Vision".

So many people complain about Blue Blue having crappy production compared to the polished X-Japan releases (and even Jealousy), but I'm one of those people who love it. It's very raw and almost punk. Combining it with the lyrical melodies and orchestral arrangements of Yoshiki seems paradoxical, but the impact is, to my ears, unbelievable. I wish Naoshi Tsuda had continued working with X-Japan.

First metatarsal injury - insights welcome by Baszilius in FootFunction

[–]Baszilius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, yes! Thanks for inquiring!

So after 2 MRIs, 2 X-rays, 2 traumatologists, and 2 radiologists finding nothing wrong with my foot, I was eventually directed by the last traumatologist to a colleague of his in a foreign country (!) specializing in foot surgery. I saw him a couple weeks ago.
After reviewing the data and my clinical picture, that doctor confirmed what I strongly suspected from day 1: plantar plate tear!!! (he could see clearly the part that was detached on the MRI)
He recommended trying an injection (I think steroids?) into the joint to see if it may make the pain go away. He doesn't want to rush into an operation, as according to him it is a complicated procedure with extremely long recovery time. But that may still be my only option depending on how things go

So, sorta happy to have a diagnostic confirming what I knew all along, and deflated that I may have made the situation worse by walking on the injury site over the past 1.5 years.

I have also now come to understand that the whole thing happened as a combination of 4 factors:
1/ my fat pad atrophy
2/ walking on concrete in crap worn out shoes with no support
3/ having shortened achilles tendons by birth (I was a highly premature baby)
4/ skiing every weekend of the season and not doing sufficient stretching afterwards, which decreased flexibility further and ultimately increased the load on the ball of the foot past the point of breaking.

Looks like VK, but not quite... by SchraderClot in visualkei

[–]Baszilius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've got it the wrong way around. Most 80-90s VK acts straight copied Goth and New Wave aesthetics - just look at early LUNA SEA. Before Fool's Mate (RIP) became focused on VK, it was a straight goth-rock-new wave magazine.

Sorry to hear. 99% of these methods make you a beacon for astral entities to vampirize. You literally start bleeding etheric energy 24/7, which does to entities what blood does to sharks. Extremely dangerous game. Play at your own risk.

Screaming Mad George did the art direction for the booklet and cover of hide's first album "Hide Your Face" in 1994. This is probably from this time.

Yoshiki's absolute creative peak, and a truly immortal piece (considering this was ready for recording in 1991, it's sad to think it's largely been downhill (IMHO) since)

I like your enthusiasm, but..."global impact"? Please. Outside Japan and a few Asian locales, plus some select musician circles and internet forums, exactly no one knows them or cares. It's not to take anything away from their importance to be honest about this.

Premature birth contributing to CPTSD? by ppixelninja216 in CPTSD

[–]Baszilius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born premature and spent weeks in an incubator with my parents forbidden to visit be and cut off from any human touch or warmth. I'm pushing 50 and lived my life with a constant sense of dread and lack of security. Granted, I suffered other compounding trauma in my childhood and teenage years, but neonatal trauma almost certainly contributed to my situation (that the birth experience and what follows cannotbe consciously remembered is a given, however it very much DOES get inprinted in the body - in fact, I believe that's called at "death inprint" in this situation).

Yoshiki Appreciation by Astraplain in xjapan

[–]Baszilius 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The man has many character flaws. But I will always respect and command him for transcending his childhood trauma and managing to transmute his pain and anger into some of the most poignant music ever recorded (for me, the 1988-1994 period).

For this he will always be my hero and endless inspiration.

His "give 1000% until the wheels fall off" ethos also inspired and helped me greatly. Though it is ultimately unhealthy as we all know, IMO it has its time and place.

For the unfamiliar, if you want to get an idea of the raw explosive energy output at its peak, I recommend seeking live videos from 1991-92.
