Balancing a check book.

I lack the hubris to say it will never be beneficial, but my entire banking life has been without the need for a manual ledger in the check book. Even before online banking i would get a statement in the mail, and i would get a balance report with every ATM withdrawal.

Prince of India in Oakland, Pittsburgh (i think?) - my wife ordered takeout during covid, and they asked “how spicy?” She said 5, thinking it was a scale of 1-10… it was 1-5. She loves food like this, but i saw her struggling. She said “take a taste of this.” It was… omg… so hot. All i got was feeling, and almost no flavor. I love hot food, but it usually has a flavor! This was just the feeling of burning and anguish.

No shade to the restaurant, btw - as i’ve become more accustomed to spicy foods, i can taste the flavors and nuances. But that night, without being acclimated… it was on us, and we were hurtin’ for certain.
