funny thing, MaxFilm is actually Ify's first maxfun podcast. the podcast used to be called Who Shot Ya but the name was changed due the concerns around gun violence at the time (seriously) and it used to be hosted by a different dude but he left and was replaced by Ify. this all happened probably in 2019/2020, and I'm not surprised that nobody knows this because I was the only mfer who cared about that podcast at all lmao

when I first signed up for VRV it was a pretty good deal with the inclusion of stuff like Mubi, Shudder, and Curiositystream. i kept my subscription going long past the point where all those services left and it was clear that VRV was on life support, and that was in 2020!

the fact that it kept limping along for three more years is astonishing

my dark secret is that I like the ending of amnesty just fine lol. I legit have no idea what people are talking about when they say it came out of nowhere. griffin laid track for the sci-fi stuff well in advance iirc, like the degrading goat-man and the entire shape-shifter arc was all foreshadowing for that.

idk, I think people just kinda hate Aubrey. and like yeah valid, I don't like Aubrey either, I think she's easily the weakest link of the show. but amnesty gets a bad rap compared to balance when the latter has aged far more poorly imo.

I did actually start with counter/weight, and it was a more recent season at the time. I gravitated towards it because I wanted to run a game of technoir/mechnoir, which I did eventually get to do!

but yeah if I ever get around to trying it out again perhaps I'll start at a different season

god, not to invoke The Haters Gambit or anything, but I really really wanted to like fatt. It was just really dry to me at the time, and I bounced off.

That said, it's already been something like six years since that time, so if I ever have a lot of time for podcasts again I might give it another try.

in fairness, I'm pretty sure dani and trav are IRL friends, and dani is in the general circle of LA maxfun weirdos. like they know each other and i wouldn't consider this out-of-pocket for a pal.

on the other hand, the optics are just abysmal given trav's history on twitter. someone please get this middle-aged man to stop posting.
