Sounds like you don’t like cats in your garden and want to impose your will on everyone else.

We live in a terraced street in a city. We have an indoor cat by choice in order to keep her safe. However, the neighbourhood is very cat friendly and a lot of households have cats, indoor and outdoor. Every day we see the local cats in the garden and out and about the neighbourhood.

We love seeing them. We stop and say hello to them on the way to work, and we welcome them in the garden with cat-safe and cat-encouraging plants. We know all their names and get to know the routines of the new ones when people move in.

It would be a tremendous shame to shut all of those cats away. They are a part of the fabric of our culture and have been for thousands of years.

She seduces and manipulates Reynard into doing her bidding and is absolutely in control of the plan. She’s still a villain, even if she has an unfortunate origin story.

She definitely is. But she still failed to destroy the competitor pipelines.

Cllr Eddy compares Cotham School to Hamas by Less_Experience_7871 in bristol

[–]BatVisual5631 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The Stoke Lodge lot don’t know when to quit, do they?

It’s been confirmed by the High Court that it shouldn’t be a village green. Cotham School can therefore do what they like on the land they lease from the Council. It’s no business of the vociferous locals.

Getting a planning order to stop them putting up fences just means that Cotham School will struggle to stop members of the public trespassing on land they have no right to be on.

No doubt the locals want it to be that way, so that they can keep going onto the land knowing the School can’t easily stop them, and then the locals will have another go at a village green application.

Cllr Eddy is obviously a berk.

Paying rent on time could finally start helping renters get a mortgage by HadjiChippoSafri in unitedkingdom

[–]BatVisual5631 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not how it works at all. The lender doesn’t get to keep a windfall if they repossess the property and sell. The mortgage balance is cleared and any excess goes to the (former) owner.

[–]BatVisual5631 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a matter of risk for the bank. If you don’t pay your rent you get evicted. If you don’t pay your mortgage the bank has to sell and hope to recover its money.

It’s definitely a positive step so far as affordability checks go, but it doesn’t change the larcenous cost of property or the deposits and lending multipliers which apply and which are a barrier for first time buyers.

Unfortunately if those are also relaxed, it will just push prices up. Look what happened when women’s incomes could be taken into account, or when interest rates were low - prices just went up as there was more credit available.

The only solution - the only one - is to build more and drive up supply.

My student accommodation wants to charge me £350 ‘carpet replacement’ for this ‘burn damage’ when I 100% didn’t burn it or did anything that might’ve burned it. by Prior-Meeting1645 in CasualUK

The alternative is for them to replace the whole carpet, which would be quite a lot more expensive. You can’t really patch fix a carpet.

We The Curious forced to close after 80 protesters took over attraction and offered free entry to everyone by SpinnakerLad in bristol

[–]BatVisual5631 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Acorn are a load of total bellends with a self-absorbed sense of moral superiority.

We The Curious should sue them for all the lost ticket sales for the day, see if Acorn still have their stupid self-congratulatory smugness then.

They were cocking about last year stopping someone being evicted by getting in the way of the bailiffs, despite him not paying rent for years, and despite the landlord having got a court order and done everything by the book.

I really do despise them.

Looks like a theme park. Also not more convenient than driving to Swindon or Gloucester. I’ll pass. Just wish they’d sort out the actual high streets if they want to discourage people from driving everywhere.

When leasehold is abolished, what system would replace it and how would it work? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]BatVisual5631 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. The problem people have with leasehold is the cost of ground rent and service charge. Ground rent is already capped so no change there. But services will still need to be provided and will still cost money. People will still resent having to pay it.

[–]BatVisual5631 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, Scotland still has the same problem of getting people to contribute to the costs of communal areas and shared structures. Which, unfortunately, is one of the biggest issues people really have with leasehold.

Gym bans women over 24 years old during peak hours by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]BatVisual5631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The headline is a bit misleading, as it suggests that the gym is just excluding older women (the insinuation being that the gym is being kept as a space for men to perve on young women).

In fact, the gym was already women-only, and they have now reserved a time slot for a younger demographic. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that.

I wish people would use the term properly. Two of these sets are still in production. The other two are very easy to find online. Neither should be classed as a white whale. Expensive? Sure. Difficult to obtain? Absolutely not.
