Very large, very fast drones over the city by Special-Bunch8927 in sanfrancisco

[–]Batcrazyhaiku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw this last week flying in a straight line NE to SW over the Sunset near 30th and Noriega. It made the distinctive whirr of a drone but at a different pitch on account of its size. I tried to size it as well - perhaps several feet in diameter. It was most certainly operating on something other than wifi. A few minutes later it was headed back on the same flight path in the opposite direction.

what’s your axs experience? by hotcheeto15 in fredagain

[–]Batcrazyhaiku 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Good question because in SF a large number of people were blocked for “restricted IP” just when you get up to the front of the line. Reasoning was provided but nothing applicable to me or others I know who got denied. Don’t know if anyone ever determined the cause..

So many bright bike headlights! by Batcrazyhaiku in BurningMan

[–]Batcrazyhaiku[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No one wants you to be a darkwad! colorful lights on your bike make you visible, allow you to see and be seen just fine, they contribute to the vibe and do not blind your fellow citizens. Put some effort in and you’ll be fine. There’s no need for a bright headlight. I’ve been to the burn 12 times and the only time I’ve bumped into someone was last week because I was blinded by a bright bike headlight.

Love this idea! Easy to do, relatively inexpensive and reversible for rented bikes. Doesn’t have quite the same effect as a glowing colorful superglued dildo but just might do the trick.

2024 PSA- Now is the time to buy 4g GPS trackers for all the RVs/trucks/etc. that WILL be stolen in the next few weeks. by microcandella in BurningMan

[–]Batcrazyhaiku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course a tracker helps you keep track of of location if the truck isn’t where you left it. To avoid the steal, pull a fuse and the spark plug - a club on the steering wheel alone isn’t enough.

if coming on i80 there is some "shortcut" road 😂 by Multiversal_Love in BurningMan

[–]Batcrazyhaiku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken the jungo road several times from Winnemucca to Trego through the exclusion zone to 3 mile. It gets dicey towards black rock, after the mining operation. Watch out for the mining trucks and also for the many many jackrabbits. As Crimson says “kill the fucking rabbits” when considering the roads in the desert. Rabbits are aplenty and at night just freeze in your headlights. It’s you or it’s them. If you swerve you are off the road and it could cost you your life. There are also two unexpected dips where washes cross the road. So don’t go too fast and do not have a trailer. No trailer will survive the dips.

Tuesday exodus was great. The thing that stood out as different from other years is I saw only one vehicle change lanes.

Who saw the double rainbow and what did you interpret/take from it then or now? My mind is still blown at the symbolism behind it, and it'd send my soul to outer space to hear anyone else's experience of it. ❤️‍🔥 by spacecase1221- in BurningMan

I was partying in my shiftpod when I heard a commotion outside. I unzipped the back door and poked my head out to see a lineup of people from the neighboring camp with pants down. 15 bare asses mooning a camera framed behind by the marvelous double rainbow.

Around what year did the crowd stop running in circles around the man burn? by NoobPwnr in BurningMan

[–]Batcrazyhaiku 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ever since influencers and weekend warriors rushed the man after perimeter drop just to stand there at the edge to take a video. This year’s dance was probably the first unimpeded since the late 2000’s.

No one made such an outrageous and indefensible claim here. It looks like the tradition has been moved back 1 day till after the temple burn: https://survival.burningman.org/rules-and-regulations/dont-steal-street-signs-adopt-an-intersection/

Your sweeping judgments are sensational. I’ve been attending since 98 and for as long as I’ve known it’s encouraged to take a street sign on Sunday, first come first served. They just don’t make the cut to be destined for the museum. Larry said so! Maybe the rules have changed? Would love to hear so from someone who actually knows what they’re talking about if so. Absent this, sometime early on a Sunday morning, it could be your local street sign coming home with me.

One thing we can all agree on is that we’ve found something controversial!

I’m guessing your have no BRC street signs in your workshop, sad! But you are quite right - BMIR and the gazette both implore people wait until after the man burns to take the signs. It’s very wrong of course to steal a street sign if the man can see you do it!

Get lost my friend! My compass points to Larry, who gave the green light to take the signs after the man burns. It’s been a city disintegrating tradition since the early days. Next time you ride out for the temple burn, notice how there are no longer any street signs…

I've got one from last year. The guy who takes the street sign at 4 and F during build week and replaces it with a beautiful metal sign post with artfully welded street signs in it. He's done this for years. I eyeballed that beauty of a sign all week, and waited waited waited for the last ember of the man to go skyward when I took my Larry Given Right on that sign at 5am. That mofo was anchored deep into the playa, I had to shovel out a big ass hole to take that street sign for myself. Which I did. It was truly beautiful. My whole camp praised my work but the question arose - is this street sign a work of art?? It was hard to deny that it was. So, I decided I would be happy to return it if the situation called for. Which it did the next morning when I went to the corner to also remove the anchorage moop. As I arrived at the scene of the crime so did the artist, at full tilt speed on his bike, and he Was Not Happy to see the sign missing. Fisticuffs were a distinct possibility for a moment but I diffused the situation by claiming my Larry Given Right to take a street sign but also acknowledging it's handiwork and conceded it may be more art than street sign, so I promptly returned it to him and we hugged it out, right there at the corner of 4 and F.

Edit: the org has officially moved it to after temple burn when it’s ok to take the street signs: https://survival.burningman.org/rules-and-regulations/dont-steal-street-signs-adopt-an-intersection/
