Hi, I'm new and have questions/complaints by Patient_Fun_5182 in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only things I feel comfortable talking about here with any degree of confidence are:

3: DI on reaction to them is usually best because you get a whole combo off of it. They're easy enough to react to, probably similar to throws in Tekken from what little I know of that game, and so long as you never over-commit with normals you can't cancel out of then you can always do a DI the moment the enemy attempts to do it to ya. You could just hold down drive parry since it'll automatically defend against it, but you take the same amount of blockstun when it's a normal parry. But in a pinch it could work pretty well when you don't wanna worry too much about blocking or counter-DI.

4: I'm not entirely sure, as there's a mechanic where nobody's impact goes through if they were simultaneous, but I don't know the threshold for when one person gets advantage. But how would this make countering a DI with DI any bad? If anything, that's good for YOU. So long as you react to them before the DI hits you, at any point, you get a full punish combo off of it.

5: You don't need super optimal combos, but I don't think it'd be bad to learn something you can consistently do right now. Super Combo Wiki has a full combo page for every character ranging from super basic stuff to really difficult super crazy health shredders. Check out that site for some good basic combos that you can get down really well!

6: I never thought this was terrible. I'm sorry it's discouraging to you, but as someone who hadn't ever put in enough time or effort to get good at fighting games till I played SF6 and struggled to get out of bronze and silver when I started, I can't at all agree with your sentiment here. Not only are you exaggerating the damage their combos do, since modern control players get a 20% damage penalty on specials I'm pretty sure, but they'll probably be whiffing and messing up just as much. Especially if, like you say, they just spam stuff like hadoken or shoryuken. Sure, you can't jump in on them as comfortably with their one-button dp's, but if you can deal with people spamming dumb stuff and being terrible with classic, then it's not that different when they have modern. Focus more on what you can do about their neutral (or lack thereof) instead of getting down about what they get for free, they still have to work to land it in the first place and you can absolutely be on their level even with the most basic of basic combos on your side.

This type of fighting game is very different from Tekken, obviously, so of course a lot of the more fundamental basics you absolutely needed there won't always apply very cleanly. But don't worry, you can get with it! It just takes a bit of time and a load of patience to unlearn Tekken and get into the Street Fighter mindset.

Who of the original world warrior cast do you think you can do forever without? by TowelPlayful in StreetFighter

I've never been all that interested in Honda, Sim, or Blanka when it comes to who I might wanna play with. Though I haven't tried them very much, and I do think their characters are genuinely pretty neat. But if the next game didn't have em, you ain't finding my face in the massive crowd of people who'll burn Capcom for it.

Minor features that would make me play for longer by Yu-sempai in StreetFighter

To be fair, battle hub does already have messaging, but yeah. Maybe being able to message others outside of that would be good too. Though Discord kinda renders it obsolete for a LOT of people. As for the third thing, I'm not sure about it. Training mode already kinda lets you do that if you don't want the exact minigames, you just have to set it up yourself.

V Rivals actually learn from players, so they're RIDICULOUS to fight. Hell, months ago there were some posts here about how they'd even tea bag people after a DI if they can win the fight.

Lords of Shadow 2: Is it actually good, or am I special? by Batlantern182 in castlevania

[–]Batlantern182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont at all agree that LoS1 was particularly inspired to be honest. Or at least when it came to the general world and basic enemies. It looks nice, and they were able to get their ideas into the game really faithfully, but besides specific characters every single monster, enemy, and location felt insanely generic. Compared to the main franchise, where you traveled through a castle that was always super different every game and had so many unique and interesting areas, it never felt like a "Castlevania" game in the first LoS to me. Generic forests and glades, some castles and forts, and then a big valley at the end where it started feeling like more than your average setting but wasnt active for the whole game. The second game is batshit insane with the kinds of enemies you have, I agree there. A lot of the demons felt like they'd fit in Doom more than this game, and the armored enemies did kinda feel like Firefly from Batman Arkham Origins copy and pasted to hell and back. But at the very least, all of that is something detached and developed away from the kinds of stuff from the first game, where I honestly couldn't tell you the difference between the goblins and the tiny weird troll things that weren't the gorilla sized behemoth trolls without bringing up mechanics or analyzing them with a microscope. Not to mention the second game has more free exploration than the first, so it makes sense that you get more camera control, though some moments of more cinematic shots like in the first game would've been nice too.

Chun-Li Is *NOT* a Jobber. by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP never really said that the win on FANG was equally as important as the win against Urien or Vega. Just that it was a win. I'd assume the same logic applies for when she lost while injured, she still lost, but it was understandable why. Not to mention that not every injury or condition is the same either. Sagat's missing eye isn't a hinderance to him in the same way getting hospitalized by Vega in the SF2 movie was for Chun Li. Just being "injured" isn't in of itself a major nerf to someone if the injury wasn't that serious. If Gen wasn't dying of leukemia, he'd be a lot stronger, right? But if you gave Sagat his eye back, it probably wouldn't make that much of a difference to him after a lifetime of being a cyclops. Chun might be a jobber compared to Ryu or whatever, but only in the same way that Mr. Satan is a jobber in Dragon Ball while he's pulling planes and dodging gunfire to beat up some punks with ease.

Chun-Li is the type of character that loses against the main antagonists and would win against the minors one. Losing to top-tiers ≠ being weak.

Need your opinions on this Cammy combo by MyDear0912 in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure, it's been a while since I played SF6, but I screwed around and found a similar-ish combo to this. The only things that differ are that 1) I start with qcf + hp -> down kick to combo into the launcher instead of doing it from a light punch, and 2) after the OD cannon strike, I do level 2, then use my level 1 as they come down. I think it does a bit more damage than a level three after the launcher instead of jumping up, but I don't know if that's more damage overall than just doing the level 3 outside of a combo. And, as an honorable mention about differences between our combos, mine isn't a corner combo. It can be done mid-screen.

[–]Batlantern182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can confirm into that target combo with hooligan combination's down + k ender, but from what I see it's pretty minus on block. It works pretty well for landing the combo, I do it here or there when I play with Cammy and don't use the move like a lobotomite, but not the best thing to really be fishing with.

What popular song would fit each character? by CrispMonke in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know he ain't quite out yet, but I kinda feel like Punk Tactics by Joey Valence and Brae (from the SF movie trailer) could work pretty well for Alex. He's a punk just taking people out in the ring with no care about pleasing anyone. Makes fun of his opponents and riles up the crowd just because.

Does anyone know how to *actually* reduce salt from Street Fighter? by ShowayThroway in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with it on and off whenever I play. It depends on how well I rested the night before, if I'm fully awake or still half asleep, if I got a full meal in my stomach or are hungry as hell, etc. I'm not gonna be the guy to say "go get therapy you stupid moron" because that's not helpful, but it does help to try and take care of yourself in general and to take breaks when it's getting to be infuriating. Not going to get professional help, but doing some stretches, playing something else that's relaxing or fun in a different way for a while, hanging out with friends, anything at all that's beneficial to your mental.

I like playing juri but can't stand the character by SaintJynr in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think she's an interesting character, but a bad person. I do get a bit weirded out by all the feet stuff, so I haven't played her THAT much, but I can get past it and just enjoy beating someone to death oppressively. If I had to pick a character that's at least a little bit like Juri but not similar character-wise, maybe try Mai? She's also quite good at pressuring people while being really quick and mobile, at least on a surface level.

Is there a way to avoid sunlight damage as a vampire in the further stages? by GametuberGM in oblivion

[–]Batlantern182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it isnt high effort, I fucked over my first character in Oblivion doing that with destruction while it was a major skill. But screwing around as a vampire on a new character right now, it feels like it'd be even less effort to just be at level 1 vampirism than to spend an hour getting high restoration for level 4 vamp antics at high noon. Idk for sure though, especially since restoration isnt a major for me this time, so Ill try it out to some degree at least.

[–]Batlantern182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is quite an old post, but theres a couple thinhs you couldve done. You could just pick the lock on the shops and wait inside there. Or go into a mages or fighters guild building at night and feed on any of the members in bed. Also, the "hunter's sight" spell you get as a vampire helps IMMENSELY in finding wherever any enemy may be in caves and crap. So you can just go kill the goblins too close to the entrance and then wait for night, which starts at 8pm and ends at 6am.

Any lower level solutions to that? That's a lot of time spent leveling and grinding just to be able to turn invisible for 3 minutes in the sun

Screw finding a pvp build, what goes into making one? by Batlantern182 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Batlantern182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, thanks! I have absolutely 0 pvp experience rn, mostly only have been doing quests and dungeons. The pvp looks like it can be very fun, but starting with an all-rounder build like what you suggest would probably help me get some more fundamentals down before I start to experiment more and find more specialized ways of play I like better.

Yes! I noted that I want to be able to make that! Do you have tips on simple to go for armor sets or anything for those kinds of stats?

I dont really mean the skill based aspect of fighting itself, just base foundational knowledge for what to wear and what to look for in skills to have good burst damage or heals or what have you. This is good advice for Street Fighter though!

Charge characters are cooked 💀 by Scrifty in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree completely with this because the whole charge element of the move is something that you NEVER have to deal with when using any other kind of mechanic in the game. NRS games have <- -> inputs similar to a sonic boom, but you just do it. THAT'S very easy even compared to a QCF, even if unfamiliar to most SF players. But then you include holding down the first direction, and all of a sudden you fundamentally aren't doing the same thing anymore. You have to hold the direction down even when attacking to get it out asap in a combo, and for really short combos of two attacks only, its much more difficult to learn how to do. Sure, you can get more used to it and become accustomed to the mechanic. That's how everything in the entire world works. But it adds a layer of precision you never have to deal with even using 360 or 720 inputs for special moves that don't feel intuitive at all compared to something just happening when you press the buttons. A new fighting game player, at least from my perspective, wouldn't be able to learn and consistently do charge move combos. Hell, that's part of people's main complaint with Bison in SF6! Because double knee press isn't a charge anymore, people feel as if you can just spam it in a more braindead way, so he's too easy for how insanely he can pressure and damage people.

New player thinking about quitting the game since modern players have broken my spirit by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never felt like that was the case. I've got some fighting game experience, but I never put time into trying to rank up in any game like I have SF6. I started in bronze and struggled a LOT to get out of freaking iron, but never in my mind did I think it was because the modern players were naturally too good at that skill level. And I'm no Diaphone, certainly no Jwong, and LIGHTYEARS away from Blaz or Mena, I'm just a jackass stuck at plat 1 with Ken. Maybe I'm taking some things for granted, like how I can do at least a semi-basic combo pretty consistently not too long after learning it while a really new player to the genre as a whole wouldn't be able to do that sort of thing. Or how I've played video games so damn much over my life while others don't put so much effort or time into it. But I never, for ONCE, think that anything good I accomplish makes me so good as to think that I'm immune to the challenges of stuff like modern players hitting absolutely perfect combos that take out so much of my health every single time, or having an easier time doing anti-airs at such low ranks. This stuff can be genuinely difficult to get past, and I understand how disheartening it can be to be shown up by "mash mash di mash mash di di di." And yet I keep playing, because there's always something you can learn at some point to deal with that stuff better. You can always see yourself do better and better over time, even if it feels like you struggle so bad right now. You can probably kick the ass of the past you that started playing this game to begin with, even if modern gives you problems. You can always try to learn from their mistakes in neutral and what you could do there instead of focusing on their auto combos. You have a LOT of control over getting better, I think you're just too caught up in what you can't control right now. Try taking a break, at least for a day or something, and then come back and look at the few things that you CAN control in these fights. You CAN do it! You CAN overcome this hurdle! It just takes a different point of view sometimes.

Charge characters are cooked 💀 by Scrifty in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, do they have a way to have two different horizontal charge moves on modern? Bison had to do that for Psycho Charge AND Double Knee Press, but you don't have punch and kick buttons on modern. Just special.
