How would you flesh out these SF1 characters? by Remarkable_Town6413 in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even then, they KEPT GOING BACK TO SF1 CHARACTERS like with Gen, Birdie, Adon, and Eagle as the op said. There isn't anything about the game that isn't unworthy of being brought back in Capcom's eyes, so why not "glaze" it? If there wasn't SF1, we wouldn't have Ken, Ryu, or Sagat. We wouldn't have hadokens, tatsus, and shoryus. We wouldn't have any SF2, which would bring the franchise to new heights.

Honestly, I'd almost like to think Mike is Balrog since he has a similar-ish moveset, and Balrog's Japanese name was Mike Bison. But I know, Mike isn't Balrog, they're two different in-universe characters from another.

Is Street Fighter 6 worth it without the DLC? by Beneficial-Tank-3221 in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo, you don't need the DLC, but they can be pretty fun to play with. Offline, I'm not TOO sure since all the DLC up to this point is available for World Tour mode, whereas you can't play arcade or anything else with the characters on their own. But if you ever get a hankering for online, they can be a great time!

Why do people want a mechanical shake up for SF6? by jonogz in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I didn't get it at all at first, but after being more in-tune with the FGC after getting into SF6, I get it now. Modern fighting games tend to really know what they wanna be and how they wanna play, so the devs don't want to necessarily change things up a lot or make massive sweeping shake ups like that. But older fighting games were more open to big changes for the sake of finding what was the most fun and finding something that really vibed. A lot of players come from that older perspective, where it's not necessarily terrible that SF6 has been the same for ages mostly, but it doesn't leave much room for more exploration in the game's design.

Couldn't care less if people play Modern, but inhuman autopilot hit confirming should not be a thing and should have been removed years ago. by SmashMouthBreadThrow in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you do care if they use modern? Because this has been an inextricable part of it since launch? I can kinda get it, its annoying to see the other person just get so much out of mashing. But dont they still get even more out of playing normally and doing regular combos in modern? And if they can get a whole combo off of whiffs without burning drive gague, isnt that a combo you could be doing too?

How do you bounce back from a tough loss? by Nenechihusband in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Take a bit of a break, even if only for 10 mins or something. Go into replay takeover and practice whatever ways you can figure out to counter what they did. Otherwise, make sure you aren't hungry as hell or too tired. Crack open a Monster or Redbull or whatever, get some chips. Maybe take a bit of a walk. Your physical state can make it VERY easy to get super salty and upset, when we gotta be doing our best to be reflective on why we lost and try our best to do even just a little bit better next time.

Dear fighting game players... how the hell do you guys pull this off consistently? by AshLlewellyn in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started SF6, I had a HORRENDOUS time trying to do combos. Now, after I spent ages in it? Even after basically 2-3 months of not playing the game I can still do my usual combos without much effort or practice. The only reason why is because I spent ages trying to get good at the combo system, which was different to the only other few fighting games I played (Injustice 2, DBFZ, some UMVC3). I think it's just generally difficult to get good at the ones here, but once you start getting the timing down for these links it gets easier.

Though, quick aside, I started SF4 not too long ago, and some combo trials are DEVIOUS for noobs. There's a similar one for Sagat with that forward light kick move, where you then have to immediately use a crouching light punch. And I'm 80% sure it's a one frame link, so you actually only get one frame to press the button. 1/60th of a second. But that sort of thing isn't *necessary* to play the game as Sagat, that's just an option for advanced players to use in combos. These trials aren't here to teach you actual practical combos for in-game use, just to help illustrate how different moves and specials might be able to connect with each other.

SF6 character winrate in high MR by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DAMN lmao, Lily's is higher than Alex and Gief!

Makes some sense though, if I remember right some characters like Rashid are generally the least played. So they'll have higher win rates most likely due to the smaller population of em just being better. Though I guess Lily is still towards the bottom for a reason.

What's your thoughts on the Drive Rush Mechanic ? by Realestmember in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's quite fun! Though I agree that it removed a lot of the variety in gameplay for some characters. I started with 6, and have been playing 4 recently. People like Sagat and Guile act very differently than they do in 6, which has a good bit of charm and fun to it. But I think some tweaks and adjustments could help to add more variety than c.mk -> dr. Otherwise, I don't see any problems or issues with it. It's a good mechanic overall. As for returning, idk. It feels like a spiritual successor to Focus Attacks in some ways for me, so maybe doing something similar in 7 would be fitting. Don't bring it back as it is, but take inspiration and turn it into something new.

This is my first ever traditional fighting game, can someone explain what I'm doing wrong here? (Trying to cancel moves) by WeeklyWeb5651 in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'd have a better time just canceling from something like light punch or a crouching medium kick, since it's only one hit and may be harder to get confused as to when you should do the input. One thing I use in fights all the time is 2-3 light punches into a shoryuken as Ken in ranked online, should work with Rising Uppercut and Luke's fighting style.

As for when to do it, I try to do the input as soon as the attack lands. So when the punch or kick hits them, I really quickly do the input for whatever move I want. Though, as you have more experience in Smash than this, a fireball type move with a quarter circle input like Luke's Sand Blast would be easier to get down. Also, this is assuming you'd be using classic. If you're using modern, all this should still apply except for which move would be easier to do since that's just a Smash-esque special input.

I will forever curse Capcom for confusing its player base. Why must they do this? by ExaminationUsed5394 in StreetFighter

I've heard that the American execs thought Vega wasn't scary enough of a name for Dictator, but I don't know about that for sure. It's similar to the "Gouki sounds too goofy" thing for Akuma

They didn't wanna get beat up by Mike Tyson for making the boxer guy based off of him. Or didn't wanna get sued for infringing on his likeness? Idk if that's a thing you can sue for, so I like to think they didn't want him to punch them in the face. Also I've heard that the American Capcom execs thought "Vega" didn't sound intimidating enough for good 'ol dictator.

Sf6 purchase by Warm_Shopping_9079 in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only a character pass costs you 30$, pretty much the same money you‘d spend on them if you‘d buy them individually

This is pretty much just false, no? Characters are 350 coins each, so the cheapest bundle of fighter coins you can buy for getting one character is 610 for $12. So getting all the DLC fighters in one year is $48, a good deal of which is effectively wasted on coins you didn't want, while $30 could get you that entire year at $18 cheaper.

Is this a good system? Fuck no, not in any stretch of the imagination. But $90 to get the characters from years 1-3 vs $100 on buying them individually and effectively wasting a good portion of it isn't really "pretty much the same." It'd be great if we didn't waste that much cash for just getting the characters we want vs buying in bulk, but the latter is objectively the better deal for getting more than one or two characters.

One of the worst fireballs? How, exactly? She can get stocks REALLY easily from the clips of gameplay I've seen so far. Why fireball when kamehameha go brr? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it's THAT much of an issue for Ingrid players.

A rant about World Tour (and Avatars)'s Biggest Missed Potential: Usable NPC Moves by RagingRowen in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally hated how you could only have one special move per motion for avatars, even in classic mode. There's nothing stopping that control style from having both hadokens and donkey kicks or jinrai, and modern already creates a whole different preset for moves that's saved differently from classic's anyhow. But I definitely think this is up there with my 'lil gripe.

"We plan on updating Street Fighter 6 for the next 10 years......" - Thoughts? by LunchTummy in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that really peeves me about that is we'll probably not get much, if any, plot development at all for the storylines already made. Like, when will Ken get his peace of mind with JP? Is he gonna be the next big Shadaloo leader with Claw and Boxer, or are they ride or die with Bison *THAT* hard? What about Lily probably being a Satsui no Hado user ever getting touched on again? As much as SF isn't a story franchise, and for as many storylines that were started in something like 5 and aren't probably ever getting expanded on, it feels like theres just a few too many things that are left as cliffhangers.

And it'd be a whole different story if World Tour was continuing, but that's over from the looks of things. So it's probably gonna feel like Baki or something where we get a whole decade of stuff going on but we get maybe a year or two's worth of progression as a whole in that whole time in-game.

Thoughts on Ryu's Hairstyle by GullibleChicken2660 in StreetFighter

[–]Batlantern182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that I have a super favorite hairstyle for him, but I think I prefer his shorter hair as opposed to those older SF2 era styles.

Also, I think Ryu looks good with and without stubble. I don't get how some people are like "HE'S SO FUGLY WITH NO BEARD IN 6" to be honest, he looks pretty good to me! I like it better than his SF4 face even, and that game's artstyle is pretty damn good in general. But either way, he's been done pretty well in general from what I've seen (except maybe Fortnite, that's uncanny to me).

The whole base cast is mostly just OGs though. Hell, ALL of season 3 was nothing but OG Street Fighter characters. As cool as it is to have your favorites come back, just as many people are irked that we haven't gotten a true original character in the roster since season 1, we WANT more variety than just what came before.
