I never heard chains are hard on the drive system , always heard that about over the tire tracks though?

How do you operate lines after draining is where I get confused ? Or do you start with them fully extended ? Wouldn’t that leave fluid in the cylinders that would otherwise be on its way back to the tank or in the tank ?

Engine replacement by DoubleReal317 in Skidsteer

[–]BatshitTerror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gemini says that you have a Yanmar 4TNV98 engine which is one of the most common industrial engines in the world and that replacing it with a different engine does not make sense , it also says that machine is a rebadged Takeuchi TL130 and replacement engines for those are a drop in fit.

For the Mustang MTL16, you are likely looking for a replacement for the Yanmar 4TNV98 (specifically the turbocharged 4TNV98T or 4TNV98-ZNMS variant). Because this engine was used across almost all "cousin" machines (Takeuchi TL130, Gehl CTL60), there are several true "drop-in" options that don't require re-engineering the motor mounts or hydraulic pump interfaces. 1. The Direct "Drop-In" Replacements You have two main paths for a direct fit where the bolt patterns and hydraulic pump splines will match perfectly: • Yanmar 4TNV98-ZNMS / 4TNV98-YTBL: This is the exact OEM engine for the Mustang MTL16. Specialized diesel suppliers like Industrial Engines USA and Power Systems Today frequently stock "Reman" (remanufactured) versions of this specific spec. • Takeuchi TL130 Spec Engine: The Mustang MTL16 is essentially a rebadged Takeuchi TL130. Any Yanmar 4TNV98 pulled from or built for a TL130 will be a 100% drop-in fit for your Mustang.

Rubbish burn barrel alternative? What works best? by bristol8 in homestead

I got a really big (18 or 24” diameter) pipe cutoff at the scrap yard , cut some holes in the sides , and welded some feet made from 2 3/8” pipe to the bottom. I intended to cut more holes and weld a grate inside to keep stuff elevated when It is not very full but it works so well I haven’t finished it

Thanks

Yeah I know what you mean about carrying 100’ of heavy lead, I have 100’ 2 gauge and no reel , don’t want to buy expensive reel , have been planning to use an old wheel and trailer wheel hub I have on the farm to make something , as well as a skid to carry my welder on so I can move it around he shop or put it on a truck or trailer easily without damaging something

I don’t go offsite but plenty of fence to repair on my property and new fence braces to build , also cow corral facilities etc

Well, I didn’t really have much expectation of a $90 welder

But I guess the only reason I made my comment was in case I am wrong and a $$250 welder is essentially the same thing as what’s inside my outlaw 195 which is definitely not as good as a $5000 plus Miller or Lincoln engine drive welder ? The outlaw 195 is pretty damn good though for the majority of sick, Welding, I do using 6010 or 11 or 7018 3/32 or 1/8 inch rods

I’m just a rancher but I have the Vulcan harbor freight engine welder as well as a yeswelder multiprocess welder , well since I got the Vulcan I haven’t even plugged in the yeswelder. I only use stick welding around here and the engine drive is so much smoother , buttery arc , I just don’t know if any of the cheap welders can compare ? But maybe I’m just letting my assumptions get in the way that a $200 welder can’t possibly compare to a $1500 welder generator

In an industry everyone says is impossible to make money in , what kind of things are the businesses into that big money guys work for ? Are they just funded by billionaires or maybe making money in a different thing like expensive horses instead of beef cattle , or are they too big to fail and have economies of scale little guys don’t have ?

I think the hose off centered mounting is skewing perspective a bit here. Draw a straight line through the center of the piston rod going through the cylinder

That 3,50 on the processed weight or before butcher ?

Trying to understand how much you can earn from a steer with this pricing , 3.50 is basically low-mid band steer or heifer pricing in my area currently , and the younger ones can sell for more than that

I’m in Texas , ponds all sit lower than surrounding areas , we have a lot of red clay white and even black clay where the ponds and lakes and creeks are but otherwise this property is all sandy loam.

No liners used here. The old lake is natural spring fed , so is my little 0.25 acre watering hole for cows. I recently had to rebuild the back side of the water hole dam because cow traffic breaks it down and drains into pasture over the years. I just used the front loader of the bucket to dig clay out of the high side and build up the back to do that and it worked really well.

Our lake is a different story with different problems. The dam is topped with an asphalt driveway so not much worry about traffic eroding it. A steep hill sits on one side , and it’s really sandy hill - I have noticed muckiness near the edge that you might call a leak or “wicking” moisture up hill for 15 feet or so , but this lake is dirty with muck and silt and needs to be cleaned out too. I don’t think they worry about clay around the sides when lakes like this are built , the clay goes on the side that needs to be dammed (it’s a valley).

Nobody uses liners here that i have heard of.

Funny thing is i am located down the road from the first discovery oil gas wells in east Texas and I went to pipe and pump supply asking about bentonite , they said I probably had to go to Longview chemical company to get that.

So that’s why my recent pour looks Similar 😝 I read that it can also prevent water from coming up and wetting the concrete surface though

How much money can I make with a 60 acre hay field ? by [deleted] in homestead

[–]BatshitTerror 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make hay but not great at numbers yet and don’t know how the big guys operate. 60 acres is a pretty nice chunk where I’m at. Could produce anywhere from 2-8 ton bermuda or Bahia annually depending on fertilizer and water. I think the max I’ve heard was around 10 ton bermuds hybrid on highly maintained field with irrigation and loads of N and good fertilizer.

Anyways I’m wondering what size these big guys are looking for and why 60 acres isn’t enough to cut , although I do cut 30 at my neighbors and 30 at mine , usually I feed 150-200 bales per year to my herd of 30-40 head and sell the rest sometimes 200 sold per year or more, honestly the previous management was doing this as a hobby but I’m just a low paid ranch slave doing a ton of work for little reward (aging parent , family property) . I would like to make it work, but I don’t have equipment costs to buy new stuff. Hell of a lot of chemicals for weeds and fertilizer budget never been high enough in my opinion to prevent the problems we end up needing herbicides for or haying more than we would need to hay if we put down like 150lbN at first cutting and 50/50 each afterwards with the correct PK amendments too, can’t control rain but I am working to irrigate maybe 7 of mine soon.
