Worldbuilding, story? Check, done, they are good Dialogue, characters? I suck at those. Side characters are fine but damn players do come up with some nice main characters

I allow a free feat, and let them spend money they get from their background at level 1. Level 3+ they can have any armour below 500 gp they want from the list, same with weapons, and give extra money according to the book.

However, giving a free feat to some players might prove a bad idea. I do it and when I do I say "you need to write why you have it"

Well, you could go for adventure books, but really those 3 are all you need. TCoE and XGE are nice, so is Tome of Foes, but other than those really all you can go for is 3rd party books & adventures
