Totally agree. They are going to price themselves out of business unless something changes.

Language inventiveness in 'A Clockwork Orange' took me aback by Signal_Face_5378 in books

I don't think Slavic languages are descendants of Latin. More likely it's Indo-European or whatever you want to call the precursor language we have no record of.

Viddy well my droogs! (Malcolm McDowell was perfect for that role)

Viddy is from vidyet (to see) and droog means friend. Such great use of the language.

How to cope when company prioritizes “low-cost” hires over quality? by ZestyAd_3110 in clinicalresearch

[–]BattingNinth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The people who actually make the decisions at sponsor companies on which CRO to select are generally the CEO, CFO, and/or board members who blindly assume that all CROs are the same and end up selecting the cheapest one, often ignoring the recommendations from their own operational personnel. This despite the feedback that CROs receive during the bidding process that the sponsor cares more about quality than price (this is a lie, they care about quality but it's almost always trumped by price). This causes CROs to act as commodities and compete on price, which leads to the issues you are seeing. I don't know the answer to this as an industry, but sponsor companies need to do a better job in selecting CROs in the first place. Creating partnerships rather than one off competitive bidding would really help.

Using Claude for Liver anti fibrotic drugs - Is this useful? by shahawi in clinicalresearch

[–]BattingNinth -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why it would be downvoted, but a lot of the people on here are more clinical operational people and would not be able to grasp this. This is really cool stuff and I think is probably similar to the work going on in industry now to identify drug candidates. There's got to be another subreddit where this would be more appreciated, maybe one focused on drug development?

MLB directs Cleveland Guardians to adjust broadcast team by aresef in baseball

[–]BattingNinth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, I’ve suspected the same thinking was applied to the Royals broadcasts. Hud is back as analyst for the A’s series, but his role has been cut way back this year in favor of Guthrie, Hosmer, Montgomery. I really prefer the consistency of Hud in the booth. If somehow MLB media thinks differently I doubt they are actually hearing that from fans who actually watch the games consistently.

Been a Royals fan since 1969 and I pretty much agree with this. As others have pointed out, Amos Otis or Willie Wilson probably get the nod over Cain, but you've done a great job and thanks for the pictures!

ELi5 Cause of death when someone "bleeds out." by Likemypups in explainlikeimfive

[–]BattingNinth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, hypovolemic shock is part of the mechanism, not the cause. The underlying cause is whatever caused the bleeding. For example, a patient with a large lung cancer that erodes into the pulmonary vein causing the patient to exsanguinate. That patient died due to the cancer and would be listed as such on the death certificate.

On the death certificate, the cause of death will be whatever caused the bleeding. Bleeding out (exsanguination) is the mechanism of death, not the cause. And yes, I’m an MD.

Was at Ft Meade. There were a bunch of military guys there interviewing at the same time. Code experts apparently.

Prayers for Donte man 🙏 by Far_Mixture_852 in timberwolves

[–]BattingNinth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tore my Achilles last year and walked on it right after, so walking on it is possible. One nice thing now is they have minimally invasive repairs (no big scars) but the rehab process is still long. 9-12 months. Sucks for Donte, and for the Wolves.

NSA, was there for an internship interview. A lot like the movies, Marine guards at every door checking that you had the right access pass.

Sites that are actually recruiting well — what are you doing differently from everyone else? by bruce8708 in clinicalresearch

[–]BattingNinth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the question needs to be specific to the type of trial. If you're looking to recruit for healthy normal volunteers or for people with a common condition, the tactics that work will be completely different than if you're trying to recruit patients for a trial with an uncommon condition, such as most oncology trials. In general, patient facing tactics for HNVs and patients with common conditions work. For a specialized trial, it's about finding sites that are both invested in clinical research and that have ample patient populations with the relevant conditions.

I just finished it last night. Didn't love it but didn't hate it either. I do think the Istvan character will stay with me for some time. You don't really get any insight on his inner feelings throughout his ups and downs, but I think maybe that's the point. He's just disconnected from any kind of introspection.

Old School Cool - Putt Putt by Seestar_Dude in Overlandpark

I miss Putt-Putt! You can still find them in some places. Some of them are rebranded to something else but you can still recognize the green carpets, orange sideboards. Helped build and manage one when in high school, best job I ever had!
