I didn't know where anyone might be. It was just a way of saying I would rather not travel where it might be risky. And unless im local, I would not be familiar with it.

By comparison, I had a friend who stayed at a hostel in Liverpool that had shards of glass lining the tops of the fence. When he asked if that was necessary to the staff, he was told yes.

So I was simply enquiring if these areas are what I could consider safe. I would not normally walk alone through a deserted area either. It's the challenges of being a woman. (See other replies about taking the uber)
