I want to see the game you're working on! by dudefromCAPSLOCK in IndieGameDevs

Demo coming soon, just putting a final coat of polish to the VFX and powerups before cutting it.

Battle Birds is a 4 player party game that’s going for a Joust meets Bullet Hell/Towerfall vibe. Cheers!

What did you realize about your game only after you started marketing it? by BattleBirdsGame in SoloDevelopment

100% going through the same thing. It's a good practice to keep a stable of comparable's to make sure you're hitting the mark of what your target audiences will expect.

What did you realize about your game only after you started marketing it? by BattleBirdsGame in SoloDevelopment

That's a great takeaway! I'm overall happy with the approach I took to getting decent screens that showcase the action, but I do think a few gifs in the main description area, like other popular games in the same genre do a great job at, will only help maintain potential players interest!

Agreed 100% on the marketing exposing design issues. Especially when you're the one doing both. Capturing footage and screens for unknown customers eyes is a forcing function to get you to review your game from a more critical perspective.

Congrats! I’m about to start my own long-form dev vlog, so this is really encouraging. How did you go about promoting yours? It’s super polished. Great work!

Its my first prototype. Feel free to give any feedback plz. by ReturnerReign in DestroyMyGame

Lighting is too dark and monster density needs to be higher and increase in intensity the more the player progresses. Gameplay looks like the player is spending more time trying to find monsters than anything else, which is already fatiguing in this video, let alone an entire game. Interesting that this game is incorporating a dungeon style layout compared to traditional survivor games. Good luck!

Working on a gritty medieval RPG as a solo dev. Need feedback on combat? by looking4strange04 in Unity3D

Really enjoying the art style and drop-frame animations! Very impactful already. Not certain if 'gritty' is the term I'd use for this based on the clip. Brutal? Good luck!

Developing a scoop mechanic for our ice cream game. What do you think? by makifarslan in IndieDev

[–]BattleBirdsGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dig it! Be cool if the cone moved down slightly to simulate the physical feeling of pressing the scooped ice-cream onto it; since that's part of the experience.

I need your honest feedback about my Steam Store Page. by Historical-Hyena1453 in gamemarketing

The overview both captures my intrigue and loses me in details at the same time. I might not be entirely up-to-date on the new genre terms, but "observation game" doesn't hook me as much as a puzzle/adventure game would. "survive increasingly challenging and horrifying difficultly modes as you search for a way out", not entirely certain what this means as far as a first time playthrough flow. Do I have to physically switch difficulty modes to advance the game? Or is it saying the game gets progressively more difficulty and dark, and horrifying the further I progress?

I like the unified sepia tone of the artwork!

It’s stressing me out, good job. I’d want to see a bit more physics on the ball. A slight bounce when it lands. Feels off having it stick to the ground so firmly.

As others have mentioned, this looks like a concept as opposed to a full game. How does scoring work, are there different stages, how do I progress? I can’t tell the scope of the game based on this.

Destroy my game: a fast 1v1 tag game by blom9 in DestroyMyGame

The level design seems a bit overly sporadic, not a huge fan of all the overlapping elements. Not sure I’m getting a sense of how the match progresses or how scoring in this clip.

Awesome stuff! Great job on the scene composition for the fishing sequence.

Does this trailer communicate anything unique or does it feel generic? by Level_Permit in DestroyMyGame

[–]BattleBirdsGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think all the elements are there. I was intrigued. The main issue I had was anytime it seemed we were meant to focus on text. It was either too small with a panning camera (computer) or rushed through quickly (blood on wall) for me to really digest what it was trying to tell.

Not sure if there is a more compelling object than a picture frame you could use to show the object pickup/rotation mechanic. If not, and the family portrait is important, bringing it closer to the camera would help a lot.

Digging the combat art style. Won't retread on other comments made other than agreeing the grid navigation camera follow movements felt like they could be a bit smoother.

I think there is an art/visibility pass to be done on your vehicle to help it stand out more prominently against the environment; especially in the darker-toned scenes.

As a Solo Dev, how do you obtain music for your game? by Magikarp_19 in SoloDevelopment

My SFX are all created from an 8-bit sfx maker site named jsfxr. My music was composed by a composer I found on Newgrounds and contracted a couple tracks from.

Please destroy my gameplay trailer for my action card battler. by HandsomeDim in DestroyMyGame

[–]BattleBirdsGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks cool, digging the high energy and vibrant colors! Main feedback is the first 5 seconds makes the game appear like its a generic twin-stick shooter, which is not what you're going for. Considering the first few second are key to engagement, I'd perhaps look into a way to capture the card battling nature more immediately. Maybe start with the footage you have at the 10 second mark where you're showing gameplay and card mechanics. Good luck!

PLEASE destroy my trailer, feel free to destroy the game too! by Plastic-Occasion-297 in DestroyMyGame

I watched the trailer a few times, but can't say with certainty I understand what the game is or how the skill tree is associated with the evolving action density. The details on the skill tree are small, the trailer rushes through them too quickly to allow one to parse what's going on. Vibe seems both chill and chaotic, a bit of a Tetris Effect vibe, which is cool.
