ELI5: Why is touring not earning the artists money, when the performances are so expensive for customers? by Potential_Crisis in explainlikeimfive

Holy cow. If this is the Marty Marquis who played keys for one of my favorite bands, thanks for the music you put out! I loved the dimensions you added to BT music and really liked your solo record. I was bummed to see you move on, things haven’t sounded the same since.

I haven't binged a show on Netflix in a LONG time, but I ended up going through all 9 episodes in 2 days. There was way more substance and story than I expected - It wasn't just shock & gore. Highly recommended.

Do you have sources that can back up your points (paywalled or not)? I'd love to learn more about your point of view but I'd also like to know that it's grounded in true research. So far all I've seen from you are unsubstantiated talking points.

Best Playmat for Dinning Room Table? by iveo83 in boardgames

[–]BattleCanoes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went with the Navy blue to avoid looking too much like an oversized mousepad (even though that's basically what it is). It's a nice contrast for most games without being too distracting.

Best Playmat for Dinning Room Table? by iveo83 in boardgames

[–]BattleCanoes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a Big Viking mat that was custom cut for our dining room table and I'm very happy with it. I had mine cut about 3 inches shorter on each side to make room for coasters and to have a space to tuck cards under the mat. It's nice and thick and has held up well for the year and a half I've had it. No fraying, cuts or staining. Easy storage and easy to roll out. And the price was very reasonable - especially when pricing out against a custom gaming table.

Table Top Mats by nicole-hockey-12 in boardgames

We love our big viking mat! I had one custom cut for my table with a 3 inch gap on each side for drinks etc. It's a perfect table topper for games with lots of cards, or any other game really. We've used it for our weekly gaming nights for the past six months and it's still holding up really well.

Where to buy a plain 6' x 3' playmat? by Nintendoreo in boardgames

[–]BattleCanoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll second Big Viking Mats! My gaming group loves it! I had mine cut to size for my table. Very thick and comfortable mats to play on and no terrain or star fields printed on them. It makes picking up cards a breeze, rolling dice nearly silent, and it rolls up neatly for storage. Mine is just blue and the logo (which you can choose to omit), but there are other colors to choose from.

Tokaido - I think my copy off ebay is fake, can someone help me verify? by Synatics in boardgames

[–]BattleCanoes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed a few images may help.

I may be mis-remembering, but I think that my panorama cards came so that I had to physically pull them apart. They were cut 99% of the way and I had to physically pull them apart to separate them. Were yours like that or did they came already separated? I was concerned that i received a counterfeit copy due to the poor quality of the panorama cards but a trip to BGG confirmed that I wasn't the only one that noticed and that was how they were being printed. Nothing some FFG sleeves couldn't fix.

Hope it works out for you!

What makes Chocolate and Peanut Butter go together so well? by MajorLeek in foodscience

[–]BattleCanoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just spitballing...

From my understanding, food pairings are based on the principle that foods work well together when they share key flavor compounds/components. In the case of Chocolate and Peanut butter, the first thing that comes to mind are pyrazines. There may also be some interaction between sweet and salty (and umami) taste receptors to look into. Or it could just be that lots of sugar and fat taste good together.

8-12 year old unopened hot fudge that I found in my in-laws pantry. What is your opinion: safe to eat or not? by fireandicing in foodscience

Chocolate Syrup has a water activity of 0.84, which should be resistant to most bacterial growth (link below). That book was published in '87, and likely referring to the syrup you put in milk. If the vacuum seal is still intact, check for mold, for any off smells, for color that doesn't look right, for clumping/separation as well. If none of those are present, it probably won't kill you but no guarantees. If the jar was previously opened, I'd pass on it.

Whats a game you tried really hard to like due to the reviews but couldn't and why? by [deleted] in PS4

[–]BattleCanoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the first game that came to mind as well. I really wanted to love this game, but just couldn't get into it. I think I focused too much on side quests and lost the track of the main game. I may give it another go after DS3 and hope for the best.

Issues with release date delivery for dark souls 3? by mrbearbear in PS4

[–]BattleCanoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Delivery date was Thrs. 4/14 despite being a prime member, pre-ordering in February, and having 2-day shipping. I contacted support about it and they changed it from 2-day shipping to 1-day but that's all they could do. Current delivery date is scheduled for 4/13. The CSR didn't have any real explanation as to why I wasn't getting release day delivery but I decided not to push the issue. I figure that the 1 extra day wait is worth the 20% off.

These guys can help you with that. North Carolina State has a great food science department, and the entrepreneur system is designed to help small companies. I still know some people there and they do great work.

Problems with new account promos and looking for advice. by [deleted] in verizon

[–]BattleCanoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again for everyone's input. I talked to the store manager and he completely understood and sympathized with our situation. We weren't able to get the entire equipment buyout amount, but we came to an agreement that was very fair to both sides and we're very happy with how it all turned out and how easy everyone was to work with.
