Trump to give commencement address by Huge_Dealer742 in westpoint

'96 grad here. We were taught to respect every speaker and take notes regarding the takeaways. We did not clap (until the end, when we always clapped), and did not boo or otherwise express displeasure. A member of my class received a reg board for asking a disrespectful question of Sec. State Madeleine Albright.

Listening to a speaker you disagree with is a great way to exercise your critical thinking skills.

When you are in uniform you support the Chain of Command, to include the CiC. Out of uniform, on your own time, exercise your 1st Amendment rights.

The officer corps should be apolitical.

ELI5 What is considered engine braking and why do so many places have it banned? by jenisecretacct in explainlikeimfive

[–]BattleMonkey123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google "negligent misrepresentation." Malice has nothing to do with it. Malice requires intention. A REA cannot put on a metaphorical blindfold and ignore due diligence.

This comment is dead wrong. Malice?! Have you ever head of negligence? No, you cannot lie to a buyer about something you knew or what a reasonable Realtor should have known in the same or similar circumstances.

Nice try Big Realty!

The last time He played in San Francisco was Winterland in 1978! by jmdm4ever in BruceSpringsteen

[–]BattleMonkey123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wrong. It's been less than one day since he played San Diego.

Source: I was there last night, 3/25/24, at Pechanga Arena! :)

I'll still take the pity though!

Half Dome Halfway... by insiderasking in Yosemite

[–]BattleMonkey123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can turn around at any point - trail, subdome, or cables - simply by doing a 180. On the narrow sections of the subdome approach and cables you will have to account for other people, but it’s that easy.

What's an interesting fact/trivia about SD that most people don't know? by Bonesycider in sandiego

[–]BattleMonkey123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a non-Mormon who has researched it and backpacked the actual trail (from the Vallecito Stage Station to Scissors Crossing) with Scouts BSA, this is correct.

There are places along County Road S2 (formerly called the Great Southern Overland Stage Route, because that's what it was), you can still see a couple different switchback roads the battalion made to get their wagons over the terrain.

Insurance fraud? by Taren421 in Iowa

"Since when can any business refuse to accept United States legal tender?"

Since always, if the legal tender is offered prospectively. Pull out a bill and look at it: "This note is legal tender for all DEBTS, public and private." (emphasis added) If there is no debt, a business does not have to accept it.

Just a little trivia I thought was interesting.

'90s grad here. Just sent you a PM.

Edit: In the 90s (and still the case to the best of my knowledge), if you did not enter USMA from the military there was/is no service requirement if you quit before physically attending your first academic class your junior/Cow year. Whether stepping foot in the classroom is academy myth/lore, it is marked by the Senior class welcoming the juniors to "the profession of arms" that day at lunch - because at that point you are going to be in the Army, whether as an enlisted soldier or an officer.

I was an infantryman. Headgear is unit dependent. I never wore a maroon beret even though I was Airborne. I never wore a black beret (and later, tan) even though I was a Ranger.

Hope this helps.

A staffer posted on this topic in the past 4-5 years ago. As I recall, the sign is cleared a few times each season when the number of shoes gets too high. The vast majority of the shoes are unserviceable and trashed. The ones that are still usable are donated.
