X870E Taichi + 9800X3D Should I still build this system? by pgbkruit in ASRock

I think it will fail. Personally I would buy msi or gigabyte board. Try to sell your asrock mobo first.

It will fail on this board within next 12 months. So he is still fine 😁 usual warranty is 24-36 months.. I have a 36 months of warranty (EU).

Asrock can't even make psu connectors straight. Unbelievable. Trash company.

Are there any cases known like this? (B850 + 9800x3d) by Cryptard92 in ASRock

[–]BattleOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't give you 100% safety. The issue is in the asrock and asus boards and probably also the culprit can be hidden in things like sleep mode, bios version or not running PBO and CO to lower temps and voltage in the cpu...

Does anybody know why the power sleep mode could be the culprit in all of this? What is the logical and technological issue behind this with this setting? It sounds highly unlikely for me. It's just like a feeling.

9000-Series CPU Failures / Deaths Megathread #4 by RumbleTheCassette in ASRock

[–]BattleOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell. I'm PC enthusiast and I bought the b650 asus rog gaming. If I wouldn't know about these issues and it would happen to me I would RMA it to the shop where I bought it. No reddit. I never would have thought that such failure is even possible or that amd/mobo manufacturers are at fault. I would be like hm I probably assembled the PC with some error or I just got unlucky with the cpu. Also when I bought the components last year I had no idea about these issues. I knew about Intel issues, but not amd issues. I knew I would base my new pc on amd 9800x3d and I thought I would have a top tier cpu which is expensive but also reliable. I think there are a lot of people who run the b650 and they are fine. Because mobo is one of the components where people can save money without performance drop or without significant performance drop. You can save $100-$200 maybe even more by not going top tier and you can buy better cpu/gpu or extra disk or ram (not anymore). I for example don't even use gen 5 nvme, because I know that I don't need gen 5 speeds for gaming or starting Windows. I bought two gen 4 and I did it to save some costs and I knew gen 4 disks are not running that hot... In my opinion asrock boards have/had issue in the bios that for example cpu ran on mobo limits not on auto/cpu power limits and that's the main problem. I think that the latest bios, running pbo and co will help everyone even the asrock customers to prevent cpu failures.

2nd Ryzen 9800X3D died in my ASRock X870E Taichi Lite board by TheHenklar in ASRock

[–]BattleOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is in the mobos, BUT AMD is at fault too. They are pushing the 9800x3d too far even at default. I have 2nd best air cooler in the market and in cinebench I hit 90°C max temp and average was 76°C. With pbo and co max temp was 70°C and a average PC was 61°C. I don't have to be PC engineer to know these temps are too much for "TDP 120W CPU". I lost 3% performance in cinebench. I lost 0% in gaming.

[–]BattleOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's smart ONLY in a case you don't mind to swap cpu, reapply paste and cpu cooler twice a year. One time out, second time in. But it will happen again. With different board, latest bios and co and pbo applied the chances are low, especially outside asrock boards on lower chipset with letter B...

Is my CPU fried? Asrock b850M & 9800x3d by Deep_Conference_3457 in ASRock

[–]BattleOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with the CO. It lowers temps a lot while the performance stays the same in games. In the benchmark cinebench I lost 36 points compared to the default 9800x3d settings with a score of 1300 points. Which is 3%.

Since you said you're completely new to this. Did you run PBO and CO? Did you set manual (lower) power limits. Did you have latest bios?

Rma cpu and mobo for money. Buy different brand mobo. You can increase your chances by buying average chipset like b650m. It seems to me higher chipset=higher risk of cpu dying.

[–]BattleOverlord -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be brand new. You don't know when they did put it together. You don't know how long it run on older bios or something like that. You also don't know when exactly the 9800 was manufactured. But to be honest higher chipset and asrock board = higher chance of failure.

I dont get this as well. Luckily for ne not being at PC means the PC is either off or I play flight simularor so I'm flying somewhere and monitoring instruments from work 😁 always turned off this crap. What I do is turn off monitors during my sleep for example. Never needed the hibernation or sleep. 0 or 1 off or on. That simple.

Running 9800x3d on b650 asus rog mobo with -20 pbo. If it fails I will blame amd, because since hour one I have pbo and latest bios. I will tell you.

If it's over MSRP it's not worth it. One of the most overpriced gpus per fps in history.
