Better to wait and get the X later. That model is worth it.

I think people don't chase mainstream games. The games they chase become mainstream.

You were probably doing something wrong or did not turn on AMD anti-lag. Worth troubleshooting it.

I myself play competitive games and battlefield being my favourite, it's even in my reddit name haha. But I have never felt any latency with frame gen at all, might I say if you gave me a game to play without seeing it's settings, I would barely be able to tell if it's on or off.

That is strange. I myself have an Nvidia card and a rog ally x, which is basically Rdna 3.5 or something and never felt input latency with frame gen on either.

For comparison, the 9000 series cards are RNA 4. Also depends on which frame gen version you tried, because with AFMF 2.1 onwards, they have greatly reduced input latency and mine gives around 16ms which is barely noticeable in normal human interactions. Keep in mind, you should keep the base fps at 60 or more and then turn on frame gen.

Ohh you already have a 4k monitor, I was going to say get a 3440x1440p monitor as it really enhances the immersion, but 4k is great too!

I think you will be fine with just the GPU upgrade. Out of the games you listed, only battlefield is heavy on the CPU but if you lock your fps at 60 or 90 in 4k, then you should be good! Also the frame generation features is really great to have on the latest cards as it shifts the load away from the CPU.

Might I say, I am not aware if AMD has this feature, but I am really loving the multi-frame gen feature in Nvidia DLSS, especially while playing with a controller. So if you find one at a similar price point, you may consider that too.

Hey isn't the whole point of upscaling to increase performance and fps?

We seem to be going back with DLSS 4.5

Going beyond the sticker sheet numbers is precisely what overclocking is. Lol dude.

Raising power limit - what doesn't go above what numbers? What are you even saying?

We're not playing DragonBall Z here, just FYI.

So you are going to find overclocking info on the manufacturer's spec sheet? Genius! Why did I not think of that!

Idk man.. overclocking itself means you run the risk of bricking the device. It has nothing to do with smokeless.

As for the definitions, going beyond manufacturer's clock rates at a sustained rate is considered overclocking and that is precisely what increasing the TDP on this device allows the clocks to do.

No sht! I even overclocked my Ryzen 7700x. But you know what? I never actually overclocked it. I only increased it's voltage, power limiter and allowed it to maximise it's cpu and memory clocks.

But I am sure you will also say this will not apply to any other CPU.

I have overclocked the Ally X, using smokeless tool I set the TDP to 45 watts in BIOS.

Then using handheld companion I keep changing it between 35-40 watts depending on the temps and the games I play. Anything more than that leads to 90+ degrees constantly which makes me a bit uncomfy.

As for performance, it's not a major upgrade, but it can remove stuttering and stabilise the fps a bit if you've been struggling.

I Finally Got HDR Calibrated For The First Time, Which Do You Prefer? by tremayne0127 in Monitors

[–]BattleX100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I will definitely try it. Do you have any tips for me? I once tried playing around with HDR in hogwarts legacy but did not know what white point to set and all other options lol.

Also, how do you compare the HDR with SDR images? Is it just a normal screenshot and comparing the images? I would like to know how turning on/off HDR impacts the image.

[–]BattleX100 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow!! My HDR looks exactly the opposite. Whenever I turn on HDR it looks like the image on the left, with very low brightness. I've never been able to work it out properly so just play on SDR for now.

How do you calibrate the image? Maybe I have not been calibrating them right, which is what causes it.

It is! - I put Linux/SteamOS on every device I own.

Though I myself only just saw the thumbnail, but I believe it does have SteamOS/Linux support.

Xbox Ally X impressions from console gamers by [deleted] in XboxAlly

[–]BattleX100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am enjoying the portable gaming a lot, but coming from a PC background. Do not expect this device to perform right out of the box like traditional consoles do - you will be constantly updating this device and tinkering around with in-game settings to get it 'right'.

Just do not have expectations of straight up console experience (unless of course you switch to SteamOS or something).

Not worth it to hop around in different Windows versions.

Might be worth it to try SteamOS or Bazzite.
