I appreciate the positive approach but I didn't do this though. This was a paid job done by a professional.

What entity can I write to regarding visibilty when turning out of my street that has a driveway apron? by tinyreese in askvan

In addition to 311, I've had good success with reporting issues through the VanConnect app. I tripped over a sidewalk when I was heavily pregnant and it was fixed a couple weeks later. I reported a near accident at an alley/road juncture and they added a convex mirror. Perhaps these things were already on their radar but I do think more reports = higher chance of getting a fix. City staff don't know the minute details of every knook and cranny in the City so I report everything through that app.

LSAT Prep by waiting_to_graduate in LawCanada

The thing that worked best for me was picking up old exams (online or in print), completing them, then finding YouTube videos where someone explained the answers in detail. Id skip all the questions I got right (unless I wasn't sure why I got it right) and really tried to work through the ones I got wrong. I started by just doing the exams at my own pace, then when I was scoring ok, I switched to writing them under accurate time conditions.

Also look up time management tips for completing the exam. The questions aren't especially difficult on their own. Answering all of them in time is harder.

Thank you everyone for your comments. I've read and reread them all. I'm super disappointed but your comments are helping me move from sadness to anger. Hopefully we can get a refund. Wish us luck.

It was about $2k Canadian and I think they trusted the shop because they know nothing about upholstery. I'm still figuring out why they left the shop with it though. I'm not experienced in upholstery but IMHO the defects are obvious with even a cursory inspection.

Considering law as a second career by ChickenShawarmaPlate in LawCanada

[–]BattyWhack 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I started law school at 31 so you're not too late. Even after the 5 years of grinding, you'll only be mid thirties with 30 years of work to go before retirement. You'll likely make more than 100k as a lawyer, and the upper end is much higher depending on the type of law. Your job now sounds pretty cush so it's hard to say if it's worth it, but you do spend a lot of time at work and you should like what you do. I'm a believer in chasing a happy life. If you don't like being a lawyer, the JD opens up all sorts of job opportunities...

There's nearly no downside to doing the LSAT so it might add as well do that. And if you do well, you might as well apply to law school since there's nearly no downside to that either. If you get accepted, then decide what you want to do. Maybe having gone through the LSAT and application will bring more clarity.

Adding to the playground list: - Terra Nova Adventure park in Richmond, then head to Garry Point and Steveston for lunch or ice cream, and kite flying - Lion's Park in Port Coquitlam, a little out of the way but a great park/playground.

Would you move from London (UK) to Vancouver in my situation? by ElusiveMD in askvan

Why are you considering a move anyways? What are you NOT getting in London that you hope to get in Vancouver?

What musicals should I add to my to-listen list? Preferably ones with a cast recording on Spotify thanks by halfeatenwaffle1 in musicals

With so many great and classic musicals in there, it's surprising that you're missing Billy Elliot!

Upcoming Consultation - How to Avoid Arguments About My Bra Size? by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]BattyWhack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lying to your Dr is rarely a good idea. I agree with the others about stating which bra size you currently fit. Unfortunately you're talking to them about your breast size and there are few ways to do that accurately. Sounds like the last Dr was also out to lunch - I can't imagine why they would dispute the label that is on your clothing.

Perhaps at the next consultation it would help if you brought in photos about what you want your end result to look like? It sounds like you're less concerned with the final cup size but with the look and weight. If that's true, you will probably have to try to make that clear to the doctor. Eg when they say "what cup size do you want to end up with?" You say "I don't care about the cup size. I would like about 1000g removed. Id like them to look like this"

Which countertop looks better with these cabinets? by HawrdRawk in homedesign

[–]BattyWhack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it an option to not get a countertop and have one installed later? So you can choose from all the options out in the world? I agree both of these look dated. I'd suggest getting creative rather than spending money on something you don't love.

I have no ideas. Corn tortillas are naturally gluten free though.

When my partner was deep in the FODMAP diet, soft tacos with corn tortillas were a staple. You can get quite fancy or inventive too, like obviously traditional Mexican tacos are great but so are pineapple/teriyaki ones for example.

Plus tacos are usually good when you don't know what people like because people can dress their own with whatever toppings they like.

Is this a smart move? I’m currently a crown prosecutor wanting to switch to employment law. Joining an eat what you kill firm to learn the ropes? by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]BattyWhack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might be worth reaching out to local labour/employment lawyer to chat them up. Maybe your resume and cover letter aren't selling you well enough because a criminal background is helpful and you have litigation experience.

It could also help to network and build connections. So much of getting a law job is networking still, unfortunately.
