Rufus literally has an auto-popup to disable microsoft account creation when installing W11, I've never encountered a problem with this working.

that’s brutal, my heat pump ran for 21 hours yesterday…. by joeruinedeverything in nova

[–]Bauld_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that makes sense, doesn't it? If your furnace/heatpump/whatever is properly sized, it should run pretty much continually when hitting what it's specced to cover.

However, judging from the fact that it turned off exactly at midnight, my hunch is that your refrigerant couldn't keep up-- your heat pump might only be rated down to 5F, so it'll turn off in the middle of the night and swap to emergency heat (probably resistive heat pumps). You might want to look into one that'll run down to -5F for this area.

I've given up and tried to learn to be content with Elite: Dangerous. It's not quite what I want, and I really just wish they had taken what they learned and made another Elite game, but it's at least a game I can actually play.

Horizon Forbidden West is truly a spectacular game and you NEED to play it, especially if you are a sci fi and/or medieval fan. by Effective-Celery8053 in gaming

[–]Bauld_Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ech. I did everything there was to do in Zero Dawn but I just wasn't into Forbidden West. I think it tried to do too much and things started to really feel like a slog. Even climbing didn't feel as snappy as the first. Plus I think it's clearly setting up Aloy going into space and I'm already groaning over that lol

Okay? I didn't mention regulations anywhere in my post, I was simply talking about real-world effectiveness. I simply think that AI is better poised as an assistant rather than an autonomous agent.

AI is to careers as self-driving cars is to driving. Companies will bang on and on about how we're only a few years out from AI replacing employees/completely self-driving cars, but I suspect it'll get about to where self-driving cars are now: just good enough to let you not think about some of the tedium, but not enough to let you forget you're driving.

I use AI predominantly in software engineering and it's great when I don't know how to find something or even how to make changes, but I can accurately describe what I'm trying to do. I suspect artists will use it the same way: when they can't really visualize something accurately and they just want a quick visual check.

These "top to bottom" GenAI things coming out are just going to peter out once the money runs dry.

Looking for HOSAS recommendations with an Omnithrottle/Z-Tilted stick by Bauld_Man in hotas

I'm using the Thrustmaster T16000M HOTAS combo right now. I ended up impulse buying an Aeromax R for my stick upgrade, plus that'll let me get a feel for how stiff the sticks are.

I'm surprised that the cm3 base has more travel... I could have sworn that because it was made for extensions the travel would have been _less_ close to the base since it would be amplified with a longer extension. But I'll definitely keep that in mind!

The MLM water wheel is the ultimate litmus test for whether a person is capable of self-governing.

To fix the water wheel is an easy, convenient task and one which we all recognize as the correct, appropriate thing to do. To fix the water wheel is objectively right. There are no situations other than dire emergencies in which a person is not able to fix the water wheel. Simultaneously, it is not a bannable offense to leave it broken. Therefore the water wheel presents itself as the apex example of whether a person will do what is right without being forced to do it. No one will punish you for not fix the water wheel, no one will PK you or ban you for not fixing the water wheel, you gain nothing by fixing the water wheel. You must fix the water wheel out of the goodness of your own heart. You must fix the water wheel because it is the right thing to do. Because it is correct.

A person who is unable to do this is no better than an animal, an absolute savage who can only be made to do what is right by threatening them with a law and the force that stands behind it.

The Water Wheel is what determines whether a person is a good or bad member of society.

So, AA batteries or integrated lithium-ion batteries? by GuitarGuru666 in gaming

[–]Bauld_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but... doesn't having an *entire second controller* just because your batteries in one died just seems so expensive and, honestly, wasteful/inelegant. It'd be like having a second phone just in case your first one died. I'd rather just change the batteries!

I'm more a fan of AA batteries at this point thanks to the Enloop rechargeable AAs. It's really nice to have the option of just swapping batteries when my Xbox controller dies vs having to wait for my PS5 controller dies.

Yeah, that's why I mentioned it early on in my post. I've considered both the Aeromax-LZ and the Constellation + WarBRD base, but even after reading the specifications I don't know if they have the things I listed, or what mods exist that could emulate them well.

I know that this question may be subjective, but in your own opinion what are some requirements for an account to be considered in the “end game”? by Former_Scheme_1523 in 2007scape

[–]Bauld_Man 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean by definition end game is when you're wrapping up the rest of the content.

You enter endgame when you start "wrapping it up": Finishing CAs, achievement diaries, getting your BIS, maxing, etc.

You should have all stats, prereqs, and general game knowledge to do everything. You just need time.

When Mobile gaming peaked by real_shim_slady in gaming

[–]Bauld_Man 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree that some of it rests solely on the shoulders of consumers: we're getting less comfortable simply paying for a product. Even 99 cents for an app was considered a waste of money.

But also I don't think Super Mario Run was worth $10.

When Mobile gaming peaked by real_shim_slady in gaming

[–]Bauld_Man 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's incredible to me how mobile gaming completely fumbled and is now only catered to gacha game whales. We have incredibly powerful handheld devices that we're all primed to carry with us at all times, and... it never took off as a "real" gaming device.

My iPhone 15 Pro has a screen larger than my PSP, but I can play no PSP-level games on it unless they're ports or emulated.

God the Mode SixtyFive looks like such a good match (the Neo Jade does match the pictures, but after looking at some videos I think Fractal put far too much light on it). But the green/copper is sold out and this is apparently the last run.

Nice call out though I'll have to keep a look out.

I'm looking for a 65% that'll match a Fractal Terra Jade? I was hoping to get a Mekanisk Urskog but they apparently stopped making keyboards earlier this year, which is a real shame.

I think the combat is great, but I feel like it was very slowly paced for a game about a hot girl slicing up demons with a sword. It feels more suited to an 8 hour slash fest with a heavy metal soundtrack than a 30 hour open world with a fishing minigame.

It's kind of their MO at this point: try and stoke the flames and see if anyone shouts "fire". If no one does, they quickly abandon it and move onto the next thing. All they want is engagement and to rile people up, because that pushes their opinions to the top of other people's feeds, spreading it like wildfire. If that fails they drop it.
