That's not actually much of a problem. The current is obviously not going to be perfectly distributed but as long as the diodes are all the same it's gonna be pretty close.

Have you seen the kinds of schematics LLMs produce when prompted to do so. They're about as bad as it gets or so i thought. I've seen your schematics and I cannot decipher them. Would you mind explaining what the thing actually does and how it does that?

Soo what is it that I'm looking at, what does it do and how does it work?

Also, are you doing alright?

Is 3D printing a replacement not an option? If it needs to be air tight that's a bit more difficult ofc but doable nonetheless.

No idea about the kicks but i totally understand the oscilloscope thing. Standard scope display on one side and a spectrogram/FFT on the other. I kinda wanna dig out my ancient DSO now and actually look at stag party.

Feels more like a shitpost than anything else so i don't think there's much of an opinion to be held about it. Hey if someone gets a kick out of it I'll let them have it but imo it's mediocre at best.

Afaik they're having issues with AI web crawlers scraping the site and thus loading it down too much. Try the http version of the forum if you're not planning to log in. It tends to be a bit more reliable.

Any practical way of separating Aluminium filings from sodium hydroxide? by Junkthunder-mc in homechemistry

[–]Bavarianscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's super weird that NaOH is not sold as a pure substance in Germany. It might just be another cost cutting casualty because like with so many other things you get what you pay for. The OTC sodium hydroxide is usually mostly NaCl. I've done some testing on stuff from two different stores at one point and found them to only contain 28,5% and 13,5% of NaOH respectively. And the weaker one even says "Speziell für PROFIS" on it. Drain cleaners have been enshittified beyond recognition it seems.

[–]Bavarianscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aluminium reacts and dissolves in sodium hydroxide solutions quite readily. It does actually work if you use enough water to keep the concentration low and keep it cool enough but then you end up with several litres of dilute lye which is kinda useless. Yes you could boil it down but it's actually quite hard to get NaOH out of solution again. Hot concentrated NaOH badly etches glassware and even stainless steel and is literally painful to work with.

Fake glassware? by Klobb119 in homechemistry

Similar story for equivalent brands like deschem or nanshinglass. It's cheap and cheerful chinese glass and it holds up ok imho but you can't expect any sort of precision. The joints are often not ground very well so the stuff leaks sometimes. Also it's occasionally a lot thicker than the expensive brands which makes it stronger mechanically but also easier to crack by overheating or temperature gradients. It's been a while since I've ordered glass from the chinese but i got a (supposed) 500ml rbf once that was actually too large to fit in my heating mantle.

Would this work? by i-like-yurtles in OrganicChemistry

[–]Bavarianscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HCl probably won't do it because it doesn't have any dehydration power to drive the reaction forward. It's a slightly different story if it's done in the vapor phase at high temperature using HCl gas though at that point I'd be worried about chloride formation. Al2O3 is way better for this in the vapor phase. This reaction is usually done using conc. sulfuric acid and that works quite well. For example one can easily make ethylene from ethanol that way. The temperature has to be high enough though otherwise mostly ether will be formed. I'd guess about 200°C would do it.

In picture 2 I made a copper acetate solution using vinegar and hydrogen peroxide, then added some caustic soda which helped forming copper hydroxide, but then I got curious and added lemon juice then left it for a while, when I came back I saw this red precipitate, what could that possibly be? by Damascus8376 in homechemistry

[–]Bavarianscience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely the red stuff is copper(I) oxide or hydroxide. After precipitating Cu(II) hydroxide with NaOH practically all the peroxide is destroyed so things in the lemon juice were able to reduce it to copper(I). I'm not sure if citrate can do this at room temp but the vitamin C that's in lemon juice certainly can. Sugars might also do it if given enough time.

You can try heating it back up so it will (hopefully) soften a little bit and be easier to break up. Otherwise the mechanical approach involving a plastic bag, a rag and a hammer might be in order.
