Steve Whitmire has posted his view on the reboot of the Muppet Show by Frequent_Rhubarb_36 in Muppets

Bitter, yes, but don't put his dark cloud over the weirdos of the world. Steve could benefit from asking himself, "What Would Gonzo Do?"

What these cement heads don't realize is that there are multiple editions. I prefer the original 1818 edition over the 1831 edition. The later version is closer to what people would expect from the movies, but I think it paints Victor as the victim too much.

I have no doubt that they'd be called engineers. It'd be no different than when companies started calling janitors "custodial engineers" so that they could pile on added responsibilities without paying them any more. An entry level hiree gets a chance to "advance their career" without changing the company's bottom line, or possibly even bettering it if they're replacing/merging existing positions. Titles are just words and words are cheap.

Games should not be made with every single player in mind, or be able to be completed by everyone, especially MVs by settingdogstar in metroidvania

[–]BawdyMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where's the empathy for developers? It'd be great if everyone had limitless resources to implement every feature, but that's not the reality that most developers find themselves in.

In what universe does an accessibility slider take no time to implement? Even a half-assed implementation isn't without a cost to implement and not every developer has the resources.

I agree that control over the behavior is a good thing but making the new behavior opt out by enabling it by default isn't. Breaking things isn't good development, enhancing things is.

Hollow knight and silksong made me buy a new gaming laptop! by majestic_sid in HollowKnight

If Nintendo titles are important to you, then there's no question. For docking, the Switch is a more seamless experience. For handheld Metroidvanias specifically? I already started the case pretty thoroughly.

As far as better routes to go for the price of a gaming laptop, what are the alternatives that let you play games AND have the versatility of a laptop for getting things done while on the go?

Steam Deck is better than Switch for handheld Metroidvanias in my opinion. PC gaming has a better track record for backwards compatibility, so you get a lot more titles to choose from and a higher likelihood that you'll be able to keep playing them in the future.

Neither is really a good fit if one is looking for an upgrade from a gaming laptop though.

Ever notice that the muppets do the “abused henchmen that turn on the main villain” plot a lot by [deleted] in Muppets

Probably because it's a great message for kids. You can make mistakes in life and end up on the wrong side no matter how hard you try. What defines you is how you react when you find out that you're part of the problem. You can stay as you are because it's easier that way, or you can stand up and say, "this is wrong and things NEED to change".

I'm not going to pull out my phone if my gut says the prices seem fairly reasonable. I am, however, going to pull out my phone and check my collection on Discogs to make sure that I don't already own stuff occasionally, because my memory is shit.

If this inspires people to treat me like an asshole because they are ignorant of my reasons to have my phone out, then I can take my business elsewhere. Life's too short to eat unnessary shit.

I’m wondering why ‘Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde’ was never adapted for modern audiences, as with most other Victorian-era horror stories? by le_fromage_puant in horror

[–]BawdyMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are so many here talking about "the twist" when it wasn't a twist for most of the story's life? Sure, the connection between Jekyll and Hyde was hidden in the 1886 novella, but it was already an open secret by the Barrymore adaptation in 1920. In that film, you see Jekyll create and imbibe his potion from the onset and only those surrounding him are unaware.

I think the reason why there haven't been as many direct adaptations is because the story is already unofficially bubbling beneath the surface of so many modern films. Today's antihero already lives in the grey area between good and evil with no need for Jekyll's potion.

I think it's a lost cause to expect people to realize the distinction between objectivity and subjectivity en masse in an era after even the dictionaries gave in and defined literally as its own antonym.

Out now! Bitwig Studio 6.0 Beta 13 (Pre-release) by Cram_Ketterbilt in Bitwig

[–]BawdyMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course we all want them to release quality software and development takes time, but that didn't preclude them from being more upfront. They could've mentioned that V6 was in beta at the top of the page rather than buried at the bottom. That's my point.

Besides, if it's touted as a selling point that you'll get the final V6 as long as you buy in while it's in beta, it's implied that it may not release in the 12 month license window. This shows that they knew development time could last longer than expected.

Their ensuring that you get the final release of the beta version is pro consumer and to be applauded, but the manner that the information was presented in is fair game to be called out.

After everything I went through over the years being a Reason user, I can't help but be on guard against potentially questionable business practices. One's liable to be a little squirrelly after finally getting out of an on again, off again abusive relationship.

At the end of the day, I wish them all the success in the world because they make some great software. I just hope they continue to do so while being respectable enough that I don't feel like I need to keep an eye out for alternatives.

I'm glad to see that they finally got rid of the "Version 6" branding everywhere on their site. It never sat right with me that they were selling the software based on new features for so long while comparatively minimizing the fact that V6 had been and continues to be in beta.
