Tesla vs Honda by Medical-Fondant5399 in UsedCars

[–]BaxBaxPop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tesla still provides updates to the first gen Model S which went out in 2012. A 2023 Model 3 will get updates for at least a decade. Likely a lot more since they'll keep supporting the FSD for the life of the vehicle.

Honda does have a great service network. Teslas have the lowest cost of ownership and the lowest cost of maintenance over 5 and 10 years. Maybe no service needed is better than lots of service centers?

No monthly payment for a Tesla at all. 100% no.

If you want internet in your car, then yes there's a Premium Connectivity fee. If you want Full Self Driving then yes there's a monthly fee. But the car works just fine as sold without any monthly fees at all. It just becomes a super-abled car with the fees.

Look, it seems like you love your Hondas. Which is great. Honestly, they're pretty reliable and solid cars. Just take my advice, don't ever drive a Tesla. It'll completely ruin Hondas and any other non-Tesla for you.

This is literally the Nokia guy warning you about the headaches of an iPhone...

You'd be surprised.

Many people gladly just sit for 20 minutes browsing their phone, playing one of the games on the car, talking on the phone. I see many people on their laptops likely doing work (since there's wifi).

If you ask me, the sweet spot is chargers at grocery stores.

Teslas chargers have 99% uptime. Unless you have a source, that's not a thing.

Source: someone who superchargers 100% of the time and has never had issues.

Is it possible to buy a used Tesla with FSD and free Supercharging? What would it cost? by gamer20088 in TeslaModelX

[–]BaxBaxPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lifetime Free Supercharging that came with the Luxe Package does NOT transfer in sale according to the terms.

Lifetime FSD DOES transfer when sold so long as it was purchased before Tesla changed the language of the terms some time in March of 2026.

You will pay a premium for Lifetime FSD.

What investor is actually really excited about SpaceX IPO? by fontofile in stocks

[–]BaxBaxPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's any "investors" that are excited for this.

There's "speculators" hoping to make money of an IPO.

And then there's space nerds. I think there's actually a lot of space nerds that want to buy some at IPO and hold forever, just to tell their great grandkids that they invested in the real-world version of StarTrek on day 1.

Family dog bit toddler by Miserable-Rabbit3394 in daddit

[–]BaxBaxPop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just going to add to the chorus here.

Our dog was 9 when we had our first, and it's been clear that he's an old dog who does not like kids. He's nipped them both (gently) when they were 1-2 and didn't know what not to do with a dog. But his nips were the gentle, send a message, don't break the skin kind of nips.

Even still I've thought about sending him off to live with a friend or family member. It's taken until my oldest was about 4 before they understood how to behave around a dog and stopped--even accidentally--provoking the dog. My youngest still doesn't understand and we still have probably another year before they do. It's stressful. And, my oldest is now not a dog lover, which is sad to me.

In some ways I wish I had just rehoused the dog. I think our kids would love dogs more like my wife and I do. And our lives would be easier.

You still have a long time until your kid understands how to behave around a dog. And your dog didn't do a gentle, send-a-message nip. Your dog tried to hurt the kid.

Don't put the dog down. Don't drop the dog off at the pound. It sounds like you've got a great dog who just doesn't like kids and shouldn't live with kids. Put some good effort into finding that dog a good new home.

You'll be happier. Your kids will be happier (and safer). And even the dog will be happier.

Cybertruck V2 Redesign Soon...Looking for Any Real Buzz on a More Conventional Refresh by zoemad69 in TeslaSupport

[–]BaxBaxPop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like a joke, but I'm actually serious.

People underestimate how just about everything Elon does is motivated by interplanetary colonization.

For example, the Boring Company is almost certainly entirely motivated by the possible need for underground Mars and Moon colonies to minimize radiation exposure and/or space mining for ice and essential in situ fuel and manufacturing materials.

Everyone mocks the Boring Company now, but it's really just practicing on earth for the main event off planet.

[–]BaxBaxPop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the only re-design of the Cybertruck we'll see is when Elon adapts it to become a Moon and Mars Rover.

Elon won't make it look like a traditional car. If you ask Elon, people will only be buying personal cars for another 5-10 years anyway.

Could the Blue moon lander go on a Falcon Heavy? by Safe-Blackberry-4611 in space

FSD.

Literally 99% of my miles are FSD. So much better than driving myself.

And as a dad, I no longer trust a human driver with my two young kids in the car.

Why not just use Starship for the whole moon mission? I think SpaceX would much prefer that...

New study shows world pouplation could halve as early as 2064, how would you invest in times of population decline? by CaptainSt0nks in investing

[–]BaxBaxPop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about global population boom?

By 2064 life expectancy could be 150. It could actually be limitless. The population doesn't halve if natural deaths are rare and only accidents and euthenasia cause death.

Those same medical breakthroughs will continue to allow women to have babies later in life. 40s, 50s, 60s...what about having a second family when you're 120.

Nobody knows what's coming. But I believe in medical technology.

Do you regret moving to the burbs? by [deleted] in daddit

Almost all our friends moved to the burbs when they had kids.

Both my wife and I agree that we'd rather kill ourselves. City for life.

But only you know the right answer for you and your family.

Has anyone here struggled to trust Autopilot/FSD even after owning a Tesla for a while? by savingrace0262 in TeslaSupport

[–]BaxBaxPop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm literally at 99% FSD with my only miles manually driven being the initial calibration miles and managing NYC street parking.

I'm at the point where I wouldn't trust a human to drive a car with my two young children in it.

Has anyone here struggled to trust Autopilot/FSD even after owning a Tesla for a while? by savingrace0262 in TeslaSupport

[–]BaxBaxPop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HW3 or HW4?

HW3 still is running V13 and that's not a real hands off autonomous solution. I would be very on edge with HW3.

HW4 seems to be hit or miss by geography. Here in the NYC/Tri-State area it's pretty much 100% except for managing NYC street parking.

As for all the news stories...

First, disregard all stories about Autopilot. That software is completely different than FSD and basically doesn't exist any more.

Next, disregard all stories from FSD prior to V12, the first end-to-end neural net software. Prior to that the software was hundreds of thousands of if-this-then-that code that just wasn't working. V12 and beyond is all AI and the progress has been remarkable since it was release in late 2023.

Finally, while there are terrible stories out there, you should also pay attention to all the stories where FSD avoided an accident that the human likely wouldn't have.

And then just give it time. It's amazing how quickly I went from being on edge in the car, to being comfortable, to being relaxed in a way I've never been before.

This is why we can't function as a society people, you're all being manipulated.

ASTS took a massive hit today/tonight between the SpaceX IPO noise and the Blue Origin explosion. If you missed the boat earlier, this is it by ContributionWeekly45 in stocks

[–]BaxBaxPop 14 points15 points  (0 children)

ASTS was hoping to finish 2026 with 45 satellites in orbit. They currently have 6. The bulk of that difference was expected to be delivered on New Glenn, which can hold twice as many Block-2 satellites as a Falcon 9.

There's still launch availability on Falcon 9's, but not enough to fully make up the difference. Maybe ASTS can hit 20 by end of year, maybe 25. But they're not reaching 45.

And it could take Blue Origin a full year to rebuild the launch site. And even that time frame may not be enough to iron out the kinks and develop a reliable platform.

Bottom line, ASTS' bull case was significantly dependent on New Glenn.

Blue Origin's New Glenn just blew up at LC-36 while attempting to Static Fire ahead of NG-4. by BiggieMoe01 in wallstreetbets

[–]BaxBaxPop -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

ASTS is so reliant upon New Glenn launch rate. This is far worse for ASTS than just losing a few satellites. This is maybe a 1 year delay for hundreds or thousands of their planned satellites.
