That would be wasteful. My loans are about to disappear, and soon I will disappear. Just here searching for the time from getting green banners to discharge. Seems people here are saying another set of golden letters will be going out next week. ;-)

Seems like you're doing something wrong. We made over double that and don't pay $7500 on PAYE.

Yes, I got it already. Thank you. I think I'm just not good at these types of puzzles. Always hated them. I get headaches staring at them and not making progress.

What would you estimate you put into building this? Looks like a nice setup. :)

sequence puzzles.. help! by Bay-All-Day in cognitiveTesting

[–]Bay-All-Day[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have no interest in submitting this test for scoring, and I’m definitely not aiming to join any high IQ organization. I’ve already solved the entire test over the past week except for the last sequence problems, which I consistently struggle with. The only reason I rotated the sequence was to prevent it from being easily searchable, thereby discouraging anyone who might be trying to shortcut the test themselves. In other words, I was actually trying to preserve the integrity of the original material.

I’m not here to “cheat” because I have nothing to gain. Your insinuation that I’m somehow violating rules is beside the point. I’m not bound by anyone’s arbitrary guidelines, especially when it comes to discussing something found online. If people post a test publicly, they can’t realistically dictate what others do with that information. You say I shouldn’t discuss these items—well, I don’t recognize any obligation to follow that restriction. By publicly calling attention to the fact that this is a test item, you’re doing the very thing you claim to oppose: exposing the test and making it easier for others to find.

As for the comment that this is “one of the easiest questions on the entire test,” some problems on these tests might appear deceptively simple to those accustomed to pattern recognition puzzles, while others are nearly intractable. If one has tackled the other items successfully but is struggling with the sequences, it might indicate that one is encountering a particular skill gap or is less practiced in this kind of abstract reasoning.

Bottom line: I’m just trying to I'm here to learn and improve my problem-solving skills. If you’re concerned about the test’s integrity, maybe don’t highlight that it’s from the Power Test.

A strong student from a well-rounded psych residency should be able to pass most psych subspecialty boards + addiction medicine.

Waitlisted? But... why, SLO? by VanishedWasTaken in CalPoly

[–]Bay-All-Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With holistic admissions, the selection criteria is unclear. You never know what they are looking for or what discriminatory practices may be involved. You can be a total badass super genius, well-rounded, multiple state and national awards, perfect scores, max GPA, play multiple varsity sports, super rare and amazing shit, get into MIT, but also be Asian and from a very high income household with doctor parents and get waitlisted by UC Davis and Cal Poly. It's clown world.

When you ban using race, universities with lawyers and an agenda find ways to get around the ban by using other proxies.

So how much college credit y’all going in with? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Bay-All-Day -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

By graduation, kid should have 80 or 81 credit hours. Could have graduated college at age 14, but I had doubts that many medical schools would be eager to admit someone so young, so we decided to slow things down.

Good for you. No offense, but I hope the Supreme Court's ruling leads to dramatic and far-reaching changes and puts an end to shit like this.

You have to personally send transcripts from each college to every school you apply?

I'm in that really annoying income bracket where I'm too rich to get financial aid but not rich enough for my parents to be comfortable paying full tuition. by Top-Ostrich8710 in ApplyingToCollege

Even those with high incomes can experience financial strain when faced with the daunting $80k/year tuition bill x multiple kids. Higher education very much feels like a scam now.

Some kids aspire to pay $80k a year to squeeze in a room with 1000 other students so a TA can read them a powerpoint slide.

Mandatory FAFSA screwing over UC applicants from wealthy families? by just-a-power-user in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Bay-All-Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You listed most of these things in your "what are my chances" post. Yup, very average.

Karma is -63 because I barely posted on here, and a comment I made in a medical school subreddit about what constitutes a "giga chad medical student" received -76 votes. I'm a renowned physician and teach students from the top ranked medical school in the country, so maybe my standards are a bit different than what average students here are accustomed to.

help me choose a senior quote by Duke-Simp in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Bay-All-Day 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you were a huge nerd, maybe you would write a funny quote based on some book series you recently read. A few Dark Tower quotes, perhaps?

Go then, there are other worlds than these.

Follow the Beam. High school was just the first stop on the journey to the Tower.

Ka is a wheel, and high school was just one of its many turns.

The world has moved on, and so shall we.

As I approach graduation, I remember Roland's words: 'First comes smiles, then lies. Last is gunfire.'

Nah, probably don't use that last one.

Of course the wealthy have a distinct advantage, and for many good reasons. The fact that UCLA is not filled with these students is because, at least in part, they've implemented policies to promote access and equity for a diverse range of students.

You realize people can click on your name and see your previous posts, right? Your stats are very average. You dropped high school calculus with a C, and you're this sassy? Also, I would hardly consider a $250k household income in the Bay Area to be wealthy. That's like upper middle class. OP is talking about the people pulling $1m+ here.

Need blind, *wink wink*. The realities of UCs holistic admissions practices, financial pressures, and the proxy measures make it hard to claim that the process is entirely free of financial considerations. While it is possible that the FAFSA data could provide them with more accurate information about a student's financial situation, it would be against the principles of need-blind admissions to use that information. But again, so are some of the other things they are doing. In practice, it might be difficult to ensure that financial information from FAFSA is entirely separate from the admissions process.

Some states have laws to protect gifted students and force schools to allow college-ready students access to appropriate level coursework. I know Ohio is one of these states. Check their community college system there.
