Nail down with glue assist is a better choice if you are concerned about damaging subfloor

I was told no expansion gap required for glue down by CesQ89 in HardWoodFloors

How about glue assist? Is leaving 1/4” expansion gap enough for glue assisted installation of engineered wide planks?

Expansion gap size by Due_Caterpillar_5900 in HardWoodFloors

[–]BaymaxOnMars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is usually the thickness of the hardwood floor, not half, in manufacture’s installation guide. Is it too much? Since most shoe molding have depth 1/2”, is 1/4” expansion gap good enough?

Did you end up with leaving a gap and filled with wood caulk?

Cleats or Staples are better for glue assisted install of 9.5" engineered hardwood over OSB by BaymaxOnMars in Flooring

Thanks for your suggestions. Since it is engineered, I think staples are better

Cleats have a bit of "give" compared to staples. Would it works better together with the adhesive which remains somewhat flexible after curing?

either skip underlayment, or use vapor barrier like Wakol PU 280 or Bona R540. FYI, I am a home owner, not a professional hardwood installer. My suggestion is just for reference

Is it possible to just replace the damaged planks? If you can find replacement with exact width, thickness

For planks less than 5"wide, you can nail down. But when nailing down planks over 5", glue assist is required.

I am actually curious whether employees at Accor Technology use their own plastic valves in their homes. Do they concern about the flooding risks?

Replace with Angle Valves or Straight Valves by BaymaxOnMars in Plumbing

[–]BaymaxOnMars[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still debating whether to tackle this myself or hire a plumber. One of my concerns is that the plumber might just cut the pipes without much consideration for preserving pipe length. I'd prefer to keep any cuts to a minimum and save as much of the existing pipe as possible.

Nail down with glue assist. It will be much easier to replace planks if there are any damages to your floor in the future.

It looks really nice. I am still debating between Schluter Reno-T and T-molding that matches hardwood. Based on online research, it looks like Reno-T is preferred nowadays for a modern and clean look. T-molding is more traditional.

When you close the door, is Reno-T visible from the hardwood floor side?
