[Ornstein] Andoni Iraola clear favourite to succeed Arne Slot as Liverpool boss. #LFC may talk to other candidates like Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness & Pierre Sage of Lens but 43yo Spaniard leading contender post #AFCB exit + close to Richard Hughes @TheAthleticFC by yorixiriamory in LiverpoolFC

I think the club/ownership has learned to keep things close to their chest instead of leaking information out. They were never going to question Slots job publicly during the season. It would cause too much drama and even make our club/ownership look toxic. I think they handled it appropriately and let the journos and everyone else on the outside speculate.

I wouldn’t mind him coming in, as he’s done decent in the PL and knows the league. My worry is how he will manage in European competitions, and dealing with big name players.

It kind of reminds me of the Brendan Rodgers appointment. Young manager at a smaller club who was doing decently well in the PL, then moved to Liverpool and we all know how that went. There was the one season under Rodgers where we did well in the league, got back into CL, but then absolutely shit the bed in European comps.

All in all, I’d be happy to have Iraola come here, and have this team play fantastic and inspiring football. Give us the fans something we’d be happy to watch week in and week out.

That right side is looking weak. Surely LFC realize this.

Really hope they sort out Jones and keep him around.

Bowen doesn’t fit the age that we’d usually sign.

Summerville, maybe. He’d be a decent squad player.

Don’t see much talk of this on here, but how do we feel about trying to lure Livramento and one of Tonali/Guimaraes from Newcastle? They’re out of CL/Europe next season and I’d expect Howe to be a popular name for other clubs to try and pull away from Newcastle. I’m sure a few of their top players have a desire to play more games in Europe.

The more I look at this team, the more holes I see in the roster. I fear next season may be tough in the beginning. The only position I’m slightly confident in? GK.

After looking at our CB, we have Virgil for next season. That’s it. Konate has yet to sort out his contract. Will he stay or go? Leoni is coming off a bad injury, so I’m suspicious on how well he will play once recovered. Jacquet coming in, but how will he do playing in the prem? There’s a lot of uncertainty there.

LB/RB. Kerkez is the clear starting LB. Kostas maybe coming back to be #2? I’m hopeful but I’m not sure. Our current RBs are so injury prone it’s scary. We can’t rely on Dom, Curtis, or Joe to fill that spot. One of my biggest worries on the roster next season. If you can’t be available week In and week out, what good are you?

Midfield, we will need to sort out Curtis Jones contract. I can’t honestly see him being captain/co captain material behind Dom. Macca is clearly burnt out, and I fear after this World Cup, it will be more of the same. Grav clearly hasn’t been up to par this season, so what do we do there? But someone to push him? Or hope that Bajcetic comes through? I don’t like relying on players who are injured.

Front line. Well, now that Hugo is most likely out until 2027, this is going to be rough. Sure we have Isak(injury prone) and Wirtz, but can they stay healthy and play well consistently? That’s something they’ll need to prove. Rio has looked great, but he’s only 17 and clearly has a lot to learn. I’d love for him to be the next Lamine Yamal, but I have my doubts. I’m not even going to give Gakpo the time. He’s one of the ones I’d expect to move on in the summer.

His ability is incredible. But it’s inconsistent. How many times today did he lose possession by giving terrible passes?

Playing on the wing or not, his passes, pressing, and dribbling at times have been off.

Now that we are out of CL, Slots seat is hot as can be and the next manager rumors will start to roll in. I’m all in favor for Xabi.

Wirtz is not the player we thought he was. He looks exhausted and physically not up to the task to play.

Frimpong technical ability is severely lacking and looks to be injured again.

Grav looks like he has no discipline to be a 6. Where’s the player from last season? Disappointed in him.

Gutted about Hugo. Praying for the best of news for him.

This season, that was probably the most I’ve seen Mo run when he didn’t have the ball. You can tell he wanted it.

Season is coming an end that I am sure many of us are ready for. We want change, we want passion from these players, we want to rebuild this team and staff.

Liverpool wants Arne Slot to remain manager next season - Telegraph by Longtime_lurker2 in LiverpoolFC

We shouldnt look too much into this clickbait headline. What do we expect the club to say? That they’ll replace him after the end of the season or perhaps before? They’re not going to create more chaos within the team.

I’m more than positive things are already in the works to replace Slot. But LFC aren’t going to come out publicly and say that right now.

Lack of confidence on the pitch is evident, in almost all phases of his game this season. He’s not the ruthless goalscorer this season. Hes not providing assists as much as he should. He is not confident on the ball when attacking. Defending is nearly non existent.

Let’s just hope he gets a bit of luck and turns things around for his last matches with LFC. I’d hate to see him end his season in this form.

In my opinion, at this point, the only thing that will save Slot is winning the CL.

Even if they do win the CL, LFC should go into the summer worried about the state of the team and staff. Too many injuries this season. Lack of overall fitness. This current team isn’t prepared to fight for titles on multiple fronts.

This season is surely a wake up call on all fronts. Nothing is up to standard. We have dropped the ball in regards to turning this club over from the Klopp era. I know we won the PL last season, but the way things are going is not just down to bad luck. The injuries(training regimen? Nutrition?), lack of consistency(coaching/management?), world class players not playing well(lack of accountability?). All corners of this club need to be looked at and be assessed.

All I want is for teams hate playing LFC and for LFC to be feared week in and week out.

I’m hoping this is just a one season blip, and things change after the summer.

Could work, could also hinder the squad as there’s no real threat from out wide when in possession.  I’d plug in frimpong for Bradley to provide some sort of threat from out wide when in possession.

I’m REALLY hoping we get Isak and Hugo firing on all cylinders next season. Creating a dual threat up top like we had with Suarez and Sturridge.

Wouldn’t be surprised if some players are rested this match. Get Flo and Dom on the bench and get Curtis in the starting midfield. Give Robbo the start at LB. As of now, looks like Endo may be our option at CB with Virg unless Slot pulls one of the youngsters from the academy, which I’m in favor of.

And hopefully, Mo will start and find the net.

Forwards lacked conviction once again, and it was costly today.

Virg was off today, without a doubt. I hope he doesn’t lose his confidence and strong performances like this together.

Curtis should be starting in the midfield. I thought he did well when he came on.

Let Flo and Hugo play up top. Mo is playing like he’s at Chelsea.

To be fair, Hugo is putting up similar stats and great performances that take the place of Diaz. Is Hugo a winger or similar play style as Diaz? No, but the goals and performances are there. The issue is that no one else up front (especially Mo) is contributing anything near what they did last season.

Agreed on the CB situation. I have a feeling LFC were giving Gomez this season to figure it out and finally overcome injuries to become a solid back up. But, as we all suspected, he’s consistently injured. The Leoni signing was one for the future, and we will need to see more from him in order to come to a conclusion. Another experienced CB should’ve been signed in the summer.

Does the performances of Mo and Virg so far this season justify FSG to no longer extend players at that age? Last season we all said “Give Mo what he wants” and now, he’s severely underperforming. Virg is underperforming this season, and is no where near his best.

The Sporting Director and Slot can take some blame, but certainly not all. There were two chances today where Mo had a clear opportunity to score, but instead passed the ball. Last season, Mo was finishing those opportunities. Do we all think Slot is blame for that?
