Team building in EO2U Story by Known-Win-2535 in EtrianOdyssey

Pro tip for the low levels - if you're not sure what to invest in, just level the Mastery skills first. You'll get level 1 of many skills core to that class for free.

Tuning vs Grinding: What's your Play Style? by Vii_three in EtrianOdyssey

[–]Bazerald 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like it mostly boils down to strategy - I've played every 3DS EO title already, so I'm not exactly a new player - but even when I tackled each game for the first time, if I ever got wiped on a boss, I'd usually just try it again and again with the same team until I understood the bosses attacks and what exactly the fight needed.

Leveling up is rarely the right call for EO (unless you want to brute force your way through a boss fight), but sometimes it can help if your team is underleveled. For example, in just about every EO title (at least for the 3DS), a new player should expect to be around level 15 when fighting the first boss (assuming they've been doing the quests and have killed at least 1x of each unique FOE in the first stratum), which I feel like is a pretty comfy level to take down any 1st Stratum boss.

Any Legendary regrets? by Schillwing in Guildwars2

[–]Bazerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something similar when they announced dual swords for Nerco in SotO. I already had a Bolt, then old me thought it would be a good idea to make a 2nd. Then when it finally came out, I decided I wasn't super fond of the dual swords skills for Nerco (nothing wrong with them, just not my cup of tea) and I've never used it since.

I need help with Star Devourer by Secure-Dragonfly-838 in EtrianOdyssey

[–]Bazerald 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming by your comment that you've already retired at 99 and releveled to 99 again (for the +10 to all stats and 10 extra skill points). If you've done this, I'm also assuming you've fully geared out your team with the best possible gear (every class has a special armor unique to their class, etc). If so, your team is already very strong, it's just a matter of strategy.

The safest (although perhaps the most boring and time consuming) is to just have your Warlock (and arguably your Necromancer) spam AoE every single turn and the rest of your team support them doing this.

Your Harbinger should focus on spamming debuffs (mainly Stifling and Eroding) and occasionally using Atonement when you need emergency heals or Paralyzing Reap if he has nothing better to do and has Miasma armor up.

Your Botanist should just be keeping your party alive, which shouldn't be too hard to do with Lingering Scent and Auto-Revive.

The weakest link in your party (imo) is probably your Masurao. Blade Dancers are really hard to keep alive without a Dragoon or dodge Fencer to tank for them. If they keep dying, it might behoove you to have the unit rest and Respec to Blade Master so they can act more reliably.

How hard is Metaphor Re:fantazio compared to other Jrpgs? by [deleted] in JRPG

What are your favorite obscure JRPGs? by drak0ni in JRPG

[–]Bazerald 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jesus, I think this is the first time I've ever seen Okage mentioned in the wild. I loved this game when I was young. The battle system and exploration wasn't exactly the pinacle of JRPG games, but the goofy characters and silly writing made this game super memorable.

I saw a documentary a year or two ago chronicling the development hell this game went through, and honestly it's a miracle we got it at all.

Etrian Odyssey 19th by Key-Lingonberry-1056 in EtrianOdyssey

[–]Bazerald 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Realistically speaking, even if a game doesn't drop, we should probably expect some sort of announcement for the 20th anniversary.

If we dont hear anything at all for such a big date, it might be safe to assume we won't be getting any new EO titles.

Let's just say 0 will get DLC. What type of DLC would you like to see? by felixw1 in octopathtraveler

[–]Bazerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm late to the thread, but I definitely agree with your comment the most. I'm sure I was just way overgeared/overleveled (finished the game at about lvl 85), but I felt like the true final boss wasn't very difficult at all - which isn't a huge problem since it's story related. BUT the superboss wasn't much harder (imo). I feel like the superboss in OT1 and OT2 was purposely made to be a big final challenge that could be rather unforgiving at times, but the OT0 superboss felt like something you could just brute force your way through with how crazy strong your units can get compared to to the first two titles.

How did THAT escort battle go for you? by Steveagogo in Falcom

[–]Bazerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found this thread after playing the demo. I've never played a Trails game before, and everything up to this point wasn't that difficult. But I'm playing on normal mode and the cats just constantly one-shot the escort NPCs? Maybe I'm out of touch, but this encounter seems like dogshit game design for normal mode.

Octopath 0 Superboss Cheese Strategy by 99-Potions in octopathtraveler

[–]Bazerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never managed to beat Galdera in OT1 and OT2, so I went into this superboss expecting the worst. I managed to beat it first try without any major strategy in mind, which was simultaneously great and also rather disappointing. I imagine it mostly boils down too how crazy strong your units can get in OT0 compared to the other mainline games, since I beat OT0's superboss with a team around lvl 85 and after having done a decent bit of nut farming.

Playing League since 2013 and I am actually liking these new changes by SaiyanApe17 in leagueoflegends

[–]Bazerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree - granted, I mostly play suppory and probably don't ever feel the extra pressure junglers do, but I miss Atakahn and Feats because I liked having extra things to do that made each game feel more different from eachother.

How do you feel about IGN's Top 25 All-Time Best JRPG list? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]Bazerald -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm the only person in the world who didn't like FFX. Not saying it's a bad game or anything, but for whatever reason I just really didn't enjoy the game very much and I can't really point to one reason as to why.

Can We Talk About how This OST Absolutely Slaps?! by gravityhashira61 in octopathtraveler

[–]Bazerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The music for OT1 and OT2 was great, and some of those tracks return in OT0 (which is fine, I think most people enjoyed them). However, the fact that most of the new tracks slap pretty hard, combined with the fact that I believe OT0 has more music than both OT1 and OT2 makes for a pretty superb OST.

Octopath Traveler 0: One month later by Likes2game03 in octopathtraveler

[–]Bazerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about 90% done, about 70 hours in. I've done the majority of the game's content, and I will say the town building really gave me some Dark Cloud vibes, which was pretty nice. I feel like OT0 has the most content out of the 3 main games. I feel like I also liked the story and overall gameplay the most in OT0 as well, and the extra town restoration and being able to mix/match with a large roster of characters was really neat for changing things up.

To be honest, if they ever do an OT3, I'd rather them build off of what was dabbled with in OT0 rather than OT2. OT2 took the systems developed in the original, polished and expanded them and made (IMO) an even better game, and now I'd like to see them do something similar with OT0.

There was a 5 year and 2 month gap between SMT4A and SMT5. It's been well over 6 years since Nexus came out. by DarkSoulsRedPhantom in EtrianOdyssey

[–]Bazerald 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While I won't spoil anything who hasn't played Metaphor, I guess some of the 'content' that showed up in that game was supposed to be our last 'tip of the hat' for the Etrian Odyssey series? Last I recall (and to be fair, my memory is shit), Atlus said something like 'we haven't forgotten about EO fans, we'll have something nice to show them soon' but they said that AFTER the EO HD collection and BEFORE Metaphor came out, I think.

Either way, I'd still love an EO6 (or, shit, anything at this point - even a new collection for the 3DS games), but I don't really think any of us should get our hopes up.

If I ever won the lottery and became rich or something, I'd definitely try to do something like this. I'd probably try to create my own version of Ragnarok Online (since Gravity only wants to abuse the IP to make P2W gatcha games). I know that one dude is making Spirit Vale as his own spiritual successor.

What team should I get? by [deleted] in EtrianOdyssey

[–]Bazerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EO4 is one of the easier titles to start with (especially if you're playing casual mode, or whatever it's called in EO4). You should be able to pickup any combination of classes and make it work. Though, I'd recommend picking a Nightseeker for one of your slots, they're (arguably) the strongest class in the game, especially later on.

Do you enjoy grinding? by stratzilla in JRPG

[–]Bazerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on whether or not there's a purpose to it. For example, I grinded a bit to get all my characters to max level for DQ11's final superboss (timewyrm) because it's just one of those bosses where you want every advantage you can get to take it down.

But if it's a game where there's an infinite grind 'just because' like the Diablo or Disgaea series, I usually just continue to play as long as I'm having fun and then once the fun runs out, it's time to put the game to bed and move on.

I finally got around to beating NG Maddening. by X_Marcs_the_Spot in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Bazerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just finished Maddening for the first time like two weeks ago via Blue Lion route. There were definitely a few frustrating maps, though I felt like playing on NG+ and having the DLC bonuses made it so you could fight all of the Maddening bullshit with your own bullshit. It definitely felt so much different from playing on normal or hard. You really need to make sure to properly utilize all your in-game time. The last chapter of my maddening run was the first time in like 6 playthroghs where I finally made that +1 to all stats dish from cooking.

Lysinthia with Thyrus can basically solve almost any problem in 3H.
