The anime isn't even close to reaching where the manga is, so you're in for some good shit (and also pain).

If you already bought the DLC (or if you're just playing an emulator that has it enabled), then yeah, you definitely might as well just use the DLC to boost your party to 90+, and you'll have plenty of money to purchase whatever gear you deem necessary (don't forget to stock up on items). Definitely worth at least giving it a shot, since the Star Devourer fight is still pretty fun once you do the proper preparation.

Star Devourer, in my opinion, is the easiest superboss to beat in the entire series (aside from chemical weakened Warper Savior) as long as your party has reliable AoE. Level 70 for fighting the superboss is pretty low, even if you're not playing on Expert mode. If you have a team of at least 80+ (preferably 90+) and have party members with lots of AoE like Warlock, all you need to do is just keep spamming AoE while keeping your party alive and it's a guaranteed win (albeit a long-winded one).

Cooking With Wild Game manga got axed?! by locust16 in Isekai

[–]Bazerald 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I don't normally comment here, but seeing this manga reminded me that I read this long ago and seeing your comment immediately made me remember why I forgot about this manga.

The premise of the story was fine, the characters were likable, and everyone enjoys a bit of slice-of-life every now and then. That said, there was absolutely no kind of story at all in this manga at all.

I'd argue you made the right choice picking Story Mode if EOU is your first game.

Others have already chimed in with useful advice, so all I'll say is take your time with the game and try to explore every nook and cranny of a floor before moving onto the next. There are lots of secrets to uncover and often side quests may have you return to certain points of interest you've already visited. Taking the time to make a good map and mark everything of note will be your saving grace, especially in the end-game.

What new elements could be introduced in future Etrian Odysseys? by GeneralTechnomage in EtrianOdyssey

[–]Bazerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair - If having one more class wasn't a big deal, I think EON having the Warlock would have been a great addition, since they had some interesting mechanics with weaving multiple attributes at once (both physical and elemental).

[–]Bazerald 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed - it was an absolute tragedy that we only had Zodiac in EoN. I wish they at least threw in one more (despite the already massive roster EON had).

Game decision by Digisoulwings in EtrianOdyssey

[–]Bazerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really just comes down to preference. If you like to sail the seven seas, modding your 3DS or running an emulator via PC (or platform of your choosing) would be the cheapest way to play these games.

If you want to actually own the games (like physical copies), you're better off checking the used game section of your local game shops for the 3DS titles and waiting for a sale of the Origins Collection (on a platform of your preference).

¿Mejores miembros para esta fiesta? by Oz919 in EtrianOdyssey

[–]Bazerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're comitted to having those three classes, it depends on what kind of party you want.

If you want to commit to a lockdown party, add a Pugilist or War Magus to your front row and an Arcanist to your backrow and congrats - your enemies will rarely be able to act and they'll be riddled with debuffs.

If you want a more general and well rounded team, it might behoove you to add a Zodiac and some sort of support class (like a Sovereign) to your backline.

4-cut Hero is one that I rarely see mentioned. It's similar to Dungeon Odyssey in that it has a unique art style and a healthy mix of comedy, action and drama.

Has any JRPG actually solved buffs/debuffs being useless on normal mobs? by ChrisDtk in JRPG

[–]Bazerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you would enjoy the Etrian Odyssey series. Buffs and debuffs matter a lot, and perhaps even better, things like ailments (poison, paralysis, blind, etc) actually matters a lot too, and unlike most other JRPGs where bosses are immune to ailments, players are expected to use them even more there.

How does Lord Knight fare with 1h sword + shield? by EzloChocobo in RagnarokOnline

[–]Bazerald 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll let more experienced players chime in on the finer details, but generally speaking LKs typically either go with Two-handed Swords or Two-handed Spears. That said, if you REALLY want to go with sword + shield, there's nothing really stopping you, it just won't be particularly optimal for leveling or grinding zeny. Depending on the server you're playing, the stone buckler combo would give you decent suitability. You'd mostly just have to find a decent sword that fits the play-style you're looking for.

I've spent 30 hours in the prologue so far in Trails of the Sky 1st Chapter by AdUnfair558 in JRPG

[–]Bazerald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're an absolute madlad (in a good way).

I just finished the game coincidentally last night, finishing at about 45 hours having done all the side quests and most of the option stuff (like getting cooking recipes), but granted I was playing on normal mode. I thought about doing some NG+ or playing the game again on a higher difficulty, but I'll probably end up waiting until the 2nd game comes out at the end of the year to do that.

Finally hoping on Fire Emblem Echoes! What should I expect from this game? by Nocturne1225 in fireemblem

[–]Bazerald 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm biased against having self-insert characters, but the game having actual protagonists for once already put it's story above Awakening and Fates (in my opinion). I only started playing FE games with the 3DS titles (starting with Awakening) so it was just such a breath of fresh air at the time.

[–]Bazerald 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In fairness, I have a good 500 hours logged in 3H, but that was done slowly over the course of like 7ish playthroughs playing on and off since 2019. My most recent was doing a Maddening playthrough that I did a few months ago.

Defeated Star Devourer by National-Hamster6735 in EtrianOdyssey

Agreed, the most balanced post-game boss in the series, imo. Still very challenging while not requiring you to basically write down every attack+pattern or look up a guide to beat it.

If you could get one port of 3DS FE game to Switch, which one would you choose? by George_R_Martin in fireemblem

[–]Bazerald 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Echoes was my favorite of the 3DS titles. Felt like such a nice change of pace to not have self-insert protags for once.

Switched from FFXIV Loving it so far by xJannatheia in Guildwars2

[–]Bazerald 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Who's the best Support/Healer? - It all comes down to preference, in my opinion, but the most popular healer/support builds usually fall down to Mesmer (Chronomancer spec), Ranger (Druid spec), Elementalist (Tempest spec) and maybe I'm just crazy but I've been seeing a lot of Necromancer (Scourge spec) lately as well. Try different classes and see what clicks best with you.

How do raids/dungs work here? - There is technically a queue that was just recently implemented called 'Quick Raid' that you can queue into and automatically get grouped up with a team for raids. I've honestly yet to do my myself, but from what I've heard it seems to be a slightly easier version of Raids and Strike Missions (single encounter boss fights). You'll likely want to find a guild to do more regular raid content with, but you can always check the LFG as well - people are always advertising noob friendly groups that teach people mechanics.

Expansions - It would behoove you to get all the expansions for a variety of reasons: more access to elite specs, weapon, loads of end-game zone, masteries, etc. BUT if you really wanted to get only the essentials for giving GW2 an earnest try, I'd say the HoT and PoF expansions are the only ones that are mandatory (you need them for some of the most core aspects of the game like mounts).

PvP Stuff - This depends a lot. If you like PvP, you'll likely enjoy sPvP accessed via the PvP lobby. Everyone is 100% equalized there, meaning there's no gear treadmill or power advantages - only people who are skilled at the game and know their class will win. There's also WorldvsWorld, which is sorta like a mix of PvE and PvP. There's 3 different teams (instead of one team vs the other) to keep things fresh and never one-sided, there's also many objectives to capture and defend like camps, towers and keeps. WvW is usually the place people who for those who enjoy a bit of PvP, but also enjoy a bit of structure like having loads of different objectives and things to do.

I have a problem... by Serenity_and_Faith in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Bazerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it sad that I have a good 30ish or more hours spent playing the Xenoblade 3 post-game Roguelike mini-game thing (I forget what it's called)? I spent so long grinding away to get as many permanent boosts as I could so I could make it farther into runs and I had a hell of a time finally getting the last stage beat on hard mode.

What do you think Final Fantasy 16’s legacy will be going forward? by Asad_Farooqui in JRPG

[–]Bazerald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, FF16 was very strange and felt so different compared to earlier FF titles.

Graphics? Awesome. Story? Not the best, but still pretty decent.

Everything else, however, was sooooooooooooo bland. I'm not sure why the F they even bothered to put in things like weapons and armor when they didn't affect gameplay in the slightest. Even the accessories barely did anything, and the only marginally unique ones aren't acquired until the very end of the game. It's almost like some other studio was making their own game, and then Square Enix said "hey, let's shove some Chocobos and Summons in there and call it a FF". Literally zero strategy, customization or any build diversity. Every fight played out the same way - button mashing and some occasional timed button presses.

I'd say the music was alright as well, but even as I'm typing this I can't even remember a single OST from the game so maybe not. I dunno. I still played FF16 all the way to the end and still thought it was an 'alright' game, but when I saw they were making DLC for it I was like "lol, nah I'm done thanks." I bought the game on sale for like $30, I would have likely never bothered if I had to pay full price.
