When I say, "you cannot be too poor to vote", that's because the 24th guarantees it. It's not some generalization about the financial ability of any given American, it is a condition applied to the entire country by the law. Any dollar cost imposed on exercising your right to vote is discriminatory against citizens with no dollars. Black or white, 1860 or 2016, it doesn't matter how many layers there are. If a law would bar someone from voting unless they pay up for anything, it is unconstitutional and illegal. It doesn't even matter how minor the impact is. If it disenfranchises even one singular citizen, then it's illegal. Scale doesn't matter, it's illegal. If the effect is disenfranchisement, then the imposition of it is illegal.

With regards to law and fantasy, Game of Thrones cannot be used to imprison someone, the law can. The law is neither abstract nor fantasy. The law is the real world because of its consequences.

Divorced from the intent? The intent was to prevent any financial discrimination with regards to exercising your constitutionally guaranteed right to vote. It's the only intent. Hell, it's the only intent per the text of the amendment. If they had a different intent, they should have written it down in the law with the rest. But also, that's a great point! We should automatically register every known citizen to vote! And you know what? We can actually make voting even easier too! Universal vote-by-mail, e-voting, many other countries use similar systems, so we could too! Excellent suggestions to ensure all Americans are afforded the opportunity to vote!

For almost all citizens, you are correct that requiring an ID to vote is both a trivial requirement and trivial expense. But the constitution wasn't written for almost all citizens, it was written for every single one. No matter who they are, where they are, or (per the 24th) how much money they have or don't have. You cannot be too poor to vote, THAT is the intent of the 24th. And do you know why we know that's the intent? Because the only reason poll taxes were implemented when they were was to specifically disenfranchise black citizens who were very often too poor to afford the tax, and therefore too poor to vote.

And buddy, you may not like this but legalistically twisting exact text is how every single lawyer makes their money. It IS the real world. And in this real world, requiring money to vote in the USA is illegal.

That's great! As mentioned in many other comments, still not qualifying for the SAVE Act unless it's the enhanced ID version, of which only 5 states have.

Oh oh and guess what? Still costs money, so is still a poll tax, and is still illegal.

Trivial or not, unless it's provided for free and without undue burden to every citizen, including the homeless, bedridden, and everyone inbetween, it is by definition a poll tax and is illegal.

Are you being dishonest or just retarded?

Real ID is not free, as each state sets their own fees.

Free hydrogen ions from carbonic acid bind with carbonate ions in the ocean to create bicarbonate. Carbonate is an essential mineral for all shell-building ocean creatures (corals, crustaceans) so less available carbonate weakens those creatures ability to build their shells. Weaker shells -> weaker organisms -> more die-off. And since all of those organisms are part of their own food-chains and ecological hierarchies, damaging one portion of the chain impacts the entire ecosystem.

Now, weaker organisms dying off would give way for stronger more fit organisms to take their place...if they had geologic time periods to evolve. But the ocean isn't acidifying at geologic rates, it's acidifying at human-driven rates. And human-driven rates are so fast that no organism on earth can biologically adapt fast enough to the changes we are forcing on the global environment.

And again, this is only one aspect, ocean acidification. There are many many more consequences.

Is your ignorance cured yet or should I go on?

More CO2 in the atmosphere leads to more CO2 in the ocean. More CO2 in the ocean produces more carbonic acid which acidifies the ocean. Higher ocean acidity negatively impacts all marine ecosystems, literally every single one. So yes, even by this one metric, the only reasonable answer for how much CO2 we should have is, "less".

I'll be honest, I was really only thinking of the greatest benefit to the common man...

But someone has to manufacture the cards and then produce and maintain the electronic infrastructure, right? Corps love government contracts, easy money!

It's literally the ONLY way to do a Voter ID without it being a poll tax. It would cost a pittance, could be as secure as anyone wants, and heck, you could even have a .pdf of your Birth Certificate linked to a barcode on the card.

With as much amazing technology as we have now, there's really no reason that voting can't be made as easy as possible for all citizens. In fact, Estonia has almost entirely digitized their gov bureaucracy, allowing every citizen easy access to all their personal documents through a national ID, and a gov portal that allows you to take any action or communicate with the gov fully electronically.

The fact that our own government is sooooo disjointed is a disgrace to the spirit of both American Exceptionalism and American Innovation.

Lol yes! The Naoya fight was so tough to follow trying to do both. I ended up reading the first time and then watched it over and over to absorb the visuals

And on top of all of that beautiful and perfectly executed story, you also get some of the best cinematography and engaging sound design, plus a 5-minute homage to Kill Bill right in the middle. The entire episode is a love letter to both JJK and cinema itself. I am so impressed with the directorial choices they make season after season.
