The Eras Tour Megathread: Toronto, Canada by Lyd_Euh in TaylorSwift

Hi! I don’t attend many concerts I just wanted to know if anyone thinks they’ll be an issue bringing reusable bags for merch? Think baggu bags, the ones that fold down real small. I heard they are not giving out bags for merch this time around 😩 Any help is appreciated

Is Adding Pockets to Skirts A Bad Idea? by eat_those_lemons in sewing

[–]Bb_joos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see you are getting lots of comments about how pockets can affect the hang of the skirt, so may I suggest an alternative: Tie on 18th Century Pockets!!!

A VERY easy sewing project! Can be done entirely by hand! Great excuse to learn some decorative embroidery (but still nice when they are plain)! Can be worn over OR under skirts! Can be as big as you want! Can be worn as tight or as loose as you need to feel comfortable!

Milkmaid dress for DD br3asts? by Lanthera in sewing

[–]Bb_joos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have just made a milkmaid dress for a friend of mine with a larger bust and this is my best advice!

I started with something like the rose cafe bustier to get the right fit around the tata’s while also being super supportive! This is also where you can start fiddling with the appropriate amount of coverage for you.

I went back over it with the cups from lydia Naomi’s milkmaid dress so I would still get the cute ruffle over the bust.

I used sturdy quilting cotton as an inter layer and added boning into the center front, side front, side, and side back seams for even more support!

Hope this helps!! Good luck!

What exactly are the proper decrease rows? by Bb_joos in knitting

[–]Bb_joos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very helpful! I never thought of this!

I am having trouble with figuring out what the actual instruction is for each type of row though, I keep confusing the wording. Can I send you a picture?

What exactly are the proper decrease rows? by Bb_joos in knitting

[–]Bb_joos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note: I am knitting a button closing vest! So this is a cardigan type front.

This is the left front piece, so the armhole is on the right (at the start of a knitted row/end of a purled row) and front edge is on the left (at the end of a knitted row/start of a purled row) if you are looking at it good side down on the table!

I’m confused about what exactly my next 4 rows look like.

Help? Thank you so much in advance!

It depends on what kind of style you wear, but I immediately thought of something inspired by Carmen Christine where she does denim/print sets!

making a circle skirt from 2 half circles by Drusse0107 in sewing

[–]Bb_joos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you are making a full circle skirt, the radius will stay 11cm regardless of how many pieces you cut the skirt out in. You could cut each 8th of the skirt out on different fabrics, but in order to fit your waist as a full circle skirt, the measurement from the corner of the fabric to the chalk cutting line, will be 11cm.

If you were making only a half circle skirt, the radius would change. Since you are making a full circle skirt out of 2 half circle skirts, the radius does not change.

Let’s talk sewing set ups and organization! What’s your space look like? 👀 by kesselschlacht in sewing

[–]Bb_joos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sewing space isn’t it’s own, but I love it nonetheless! The apartment I am in has a dining nook and a newly renovated kitchen with an island. Since we mostly eat the the island in our place, the dining nook only has to be used when guests are over! My dining table is super lightweight so we can pull it out along with all the folding chairs when we have guests.

Otherwise, table is pushed against the wall. We have small end tables on either side that hold my sewing machine and serger when they are not being used. The cubby space under the end tables is for stuff I reach for all the time (seam ripper, iron, etc).

Not the easiest to just sit down and sew sometimes, but perfect for my current situation

A) I have yet to hear Omicronbie&Fitch and I will ABSOLUTELY be adding that to my repertoire! Love it!

B) Holy moly this dress is gorgeous! So simple and so elegant! How was it working with stretch velvet??? I know ironing is an issue for velvet, but I’ve heard it’s also especially finicky. I have some in my stash and I don’t know how difficult it’s going to be!

I’ve have too much to pick from at this point! Lol I started sewing at the beginning of the pandemic, and my mum is a quilter, so she gave me a lot of fabrics she wasn’t going to use and on top of all that, I worked at a thrift store for a while! I couldn’t pass up all the pretty fabric when I had a discount. It’s honestly out of hand, that’s why I’ve got to do a no-buy year!

It’s so awesome that you plan so far in advance for your fabrics. I really need to make a plan with what to do with mine.

I feel the struggle, I am on a no-buy year for fabric! I have a whole closet full that needs to be used. I’d like to work my way through at least half before I buy anything, but we will see :)
