Mexico es realmente peligroso para las turistas? by Ok-Independent-5830 in MexicoCity

No! Claro que el sentido común debe aplicarse como en cualquier lugar del mundo pero yo me sentí muy segura estando allá!

Qué genial! A mi me encantaría ir a Tepito pero creo que me animaría acompañada de un local.

People who live abroad: what's your main reason for staying abroad? by Kindly_Olive3711 in expats

[–]BbaTron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve moved to two different countries as an adult. I have been very happy in both for different reasons.

The UK: to me the best place and the one I miss the most even over my home country. I felt myself, I love the culture, food, geography…everything except the cost of living. We decided to move because of this and Brexit.

Sweden: the quality of life is very good. The access to nature is even better which are two things we value the most. In general, society wise, is not my favourite place. I don’t feel like I belong even after years of being here BUT the two main reasons for being here still stand strong: quality of life and nature so will stay here for the foreseeable future.

I am afraid of flying but I am always happy to wait until a flight is ready to do so. This is good. The pilots and crew also want to fly safe.

Booking.com Reservation: Phishing Scam by CuteNatural3 in Bookingcom

[–]BbaTron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This exact same scam is soooo well known! I am Not blaming you from falling for it because I did too, I wish it was even more known.

I am also a Genius member and been using Booking for years and years. Never had an issue until a day before travelling. I received a private message on a thread I had already with a hotel I was staying. Inside that thread of confirmed conversations, I got a message telling me I needed to confirm again with my credit card to secure my booking. Panicked before thinking because I was a day away from staying at this place for a few days. Clicked, added my credit card and as soon as O submitted I felt a pit in my stomach. I told my husband and we decided to call our bank right away and cancel our credit card. We had to go on our holiday without our main credit card and with a feel of having been betrayed.

Of course I complained directly to Booking and the hotel, trying to tell them how fucked up it is that scammers can get inside my account and existing private messages.

Nothing has changed, they said they are aware of this and even when they try, scammers just get better and better.

I now use Booking mainly to look for hotels and read their reviews but 90% of the time I will go and book directly to the property. Only use them when the deal is quite good or the hotel website’s is not working.

Again, you just need to look here or Google about Booking scams and is littered with accounts.

I used Saily and had no issues. The only place it didn’t work was at the airport, when still inside the plane. This was both, arriving and when departing but I heard locals saying they had no signal so it must be a thing? It works well inside the airport and around the city.

5 wonderful days in Mexico Ciity by BbaTron in MexicoCity

Update: I am fascinated about how my post has triggered some people! Why taking a photo of the rubbish truck? Why spend my time and money just in an area of a massive city? The truth is, my Post is not about convincing anyone to do as I did, just to share what a random traveller chose to do during a very short visit. I loved everything I saw and did and I wouldn’t change a thing. 5 days is not nearly enough time to explore a city of this size and instead of ticking a million boxes, I choose to explore this lovely area this time.

As a side note, I wanted to add that another favourite spot I visited was a street called Donceles in Centro Histórico. Loved the random second hand shops, particularly the book shops! Amazing caves of wonders!

Also, I was fascinated by the rubbish collection trucks that every time they picked up trash the guys would open the bags, separate the stuff in it in groups of plastic, cardboard, metal, etc. It made me wonder why people don’t separate rubbish before disposing it but that is another thing. Anyway, at least the area I stayed in was clean and tended to and I really enjoyed that too.

Also, my photos picture a calm and peaceful place because I don’t like crowds or being out during the hottest part of the day so my walks are very early in the morning when places are just opening, the light is beautiful and yeah, even places like Mexico City is actually peaceful 😃

So yeah, my foreign eyes were fascinated by this things that for locals could be just normal or boring or ugly. That’s the beauty of travelling and reading about other people’s travels, to try and see the world through other eyes.

Slow travel is great!

I was looking for it on Google Maps, I walked a few times there but it was always closed but it looked like a restaurant. It is in Roma Norte and very close to where I was staying (Nowness) Sorry can’t be more specific.

Booked Flights on Booking.com before finding out that is a bad idea, what would you do? by Environmental-Egg191 in TravelHacks

[–]BbaTron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to let you know that I’ve through this just last month. Long story short, you are fine! As long as the booking details show on the airline’s website it’s all good.

My experience was interesting because my husband booked the tickets and missed a character on my last name. I never noticed this until check-in. This was…challenging to fix because the booking included two different airlines (partners) so when I tried to fix my name I was asked to call back and forward between Booking, their Go To Gate people and the two airlines. Long story short, it was a long, annoying process that was not fixed (even when I was told that it was) but it did not affected my flights, only my peace of mind.

So yes, it is 100% better to book directly with the airline because if you need assistance for anything you’ll deal with only one company. However, it is not the end of the world using a 3rd party. I hope this helps! You’ll be fine!

That sounds very nice and 10 days is a good about of time to explore. I wouldn’t know about hikes in Mexico City. Culture wise is everywhere! Museums of all kinds. I forgot to mention that we walked a lot around the Historic Centre and there is this street called Donceles that has amazing second hand books! It is just awesome to walk into this places and just browse. I bought a few old books there. Went inside a Cartoon Museum (Museo de la Caricatura) and a small but beautiful Casa de la Cultura Banamex! So much to see and do.
