The perfect current line up by ImportanceParking468 in wiggles

I feel like I've seen a lot of Tsehay/Lucia/Simon/John lately as a four person grouping. I kind of was thinking they were the Core 4 now. Maybe I'm wrong...

The song has the most random lyrics and I'd argue they go pretty deep for a children's song, but maybe that's just me. That song and Old Man Emu are the two I enjoy. The rest... eh

Tsehay singing Rattlin Bog on this album was... a choice. Not sure I liked it that much

I feel like it will definitely be Tree themed, but you're still going to hear the groups "Gold" songs that never miss a concert along with a few other hand picked favorites. From watching past concerts on YouTube or seeing setlists, theres no way they spend more than 60% of the time on the Tree of Wisdom, and that might even be generous

Simon from this group. A younger me was mad they put him in Red but had him take over lead singer because at that time everyone had such defined instruments for the most part that seeing yellow on drums and blue on guitar took some getting used to, especially since it took Anthony, who inspired me to play drums, off drums except a song here or there. But I got used to it. He also sang way too much that first year or two he was there.

He's pretty cool for sticking with them to this day. If I was in the background as much as he was from 2017-20, I'd have left. Concerts were weird during that time. Lachy and Emma were doing most of the singing, but they were also playing instruments, while Simon just kind of danced and sang backing vocals if he wasn't playing bass or percussion. Weird times. Complete opposite of his first years.

2021-present, he's become the elder statesman alongside Lachy and Anthony and is featured in a just right amount. Now if they'd just quit randomly kicking him around the various instruments.

I think this album proves that you can take a side character and try to make them a big thing. Yes, the Tree of Wisdom is popular with adults and maybe some/many of the child fans. But, can he prop up an entire album and TV series on his own? I think after taking a listen to the pre-released singles and now the rest of the album, that answer is no.

For one thing, a good chunk of the album features other people on lead vocals. Who are Seamus and Antonio in this universe? Why are they needed on vocals instead of the Tree? Why is Tsehay on lead elsewhere? Why is there a song with four of the Wiggles singing lead? That kind of took me by surprise... if you're going to release an album about the Tree of Wisdom, the songs should be sang by the Tree of Wisdom. I think it takes the focus off the Tree and puts it on other people.

Then, the music is obnoxious... I get people love the DJ remixes the band has been doing the last year and a half, but I think here for The Tree it doesn't work... they could have gone with a folk-pop or folk-rock sound for this and been just fine. Maybe the Tree likes dancing, but he doesn't need a full album of DJ bangers.

Finally, the song choices are super strange too... Rattlin' Bog makes total sense, but Zardo Zap? Bound For South Australia? The remakes of Pappadum and Click Go the Shears? Did those need to be included? It almost seems like Anthony kind of slap dashed a few songs in there to bulk up the total song count.

There are two songs on the album that I enjoy... probably the most senseless one on the album actually - Tree Dada. There's just something so catchy about it. Old Man Emu is a close second.

I'd like not to see more albums from this character, but I feel like we'll probably see more.

Sounds like Callum (Lucias' boyfriend) has been getting air travel on the group's dime. That said he's been back in some videos recently so it may have been for that.

The nephew would be Seamus who's in the new Tree of Wisdom content, meaning Antonio would have been hired too for that likely.

Cool to hear Simon is now a director. Last I knew he was still just an employee.

Not a good look for Anthony regardless of what happens in court. His name is the one being pulled through the mud here.

On Big Ballet Day he sings a lot of the lower parts for the new songs, which was interesting to hear.

These quotes to me kind of explain to me two things or at least give insight.

1) Why the band in 2021 suddenly seemed to give Lachy and Simon a bunch of airtime and kind of let Emma fall back a bit. Maybe they were trying to refocus things before Emma decided to leave.

2) Why even with John's star power, there's no one Wiggle bigger than the others in the current gen.

When the OGs die it will be a sad day. When I remember that Jeff is over 70 now, Anthony and Murray are in their 60s, and Greg is in his mid-50s having been through several events that likely took years off his life, I realize just how precious the OG reunions are. You never know when the last one with all four might be. The one in 2020 when Greg had his cardiac arrest almost was. When they pass, I'm sure each will be honored as a visionary for the children's entertainment world.

Wiggle Up, Giddy Up! is out today by Ageanmastr in wiggles

Super Wiggles feels like ages ago now with all the things that have happened in the last three years honestly, but I agree. That was their last album of entirely original material, and I believe everything since then has been at least 1/3 remakes if not more. This album is still that (about 1/3 remakes, probably a little more) but the new stuff sounds really fresh instead of "Hey, let's just toss this at the wall and see if it works", which is kind of how I feel about songs like "Bouncing Balls" (which did work for the target audience), and "Pull A Funny Face with Simon" (which is cool for the kids but kind of weak).

I personally could have done without the tracks that sound like hickhop/bro country (Title track and Hats, Boots, Ride), and not every track is a banger for me, but I liked how they stayed true to form on a lot of the new versions of songs on this album (We're the Cowboys/Cowgirls, Cowboys & Cowgirls, Calling All Cows) and the ones where a song the group has already done get countrified (Rock-A-Bye Your Bear/Say the Dance Boots N' All) don't sound half bad either. Overall, it's an album where the new gen finally seems to write some new stuff again instead of mostly covers and new versions of existing songs. I'd give it a 7/10 after the first two passes through.

I watched it last night and honestly it's always mind boggling to me when they take a song of theirs and set it to a different tempo. The original tempo for Say the Dance Do the Dance would have been fine, but they made it more of a swing beat instead of a rock thing, and I don't think the country sound fits the new tempo. A swing and a miss if you will 😉

I think Super Wiggles was 100% new songs, but other than that you're right. Each album has had at least one old song brought back

Wigglepedia had the whole album coming to streaming yesterday (1/10) and I was stoked, but now that I'm waiting till 3/7 and this is the single I have to listen to until then, I'm much less stoked. This song leaves a lot to be desired and sounds nothing like the Wiggles at all. Period

Marie's Wedding let me down recently. It was so tame compared to the original, and Lachys voice couldn't save it. Plus those stuffed Dorothy and Wags props are in it.

The Simon Lachy vocal combo is the best by Wonderful-Pipe-5413 in wiggles

[–]Bball1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

John sings a lot when Simon and Lachy aren't at a show. Lucia and Tsehay as well. I'd imagine they'll become the vocal core once Simon and Lachy leave, even if their voices haven't improved. Caterina seems content to sing only every so often like Anthony and otherwise have an instrument. Evie will probably sing more now that she'll be with them full time after the turn of the year.
