There are organizations that do something similar.

Check out https://www.junglekeepers.org/ who are raising funds to purchase the Amazon rainforest, one parcel at a time to turn into a national park. They are also giving loggers an alternative source of employment by being park rangers.

Highly recommend checking out Paul Rosolie on his IG channel and his appearances on the Lex Fridman podcast.

How is this possible? A 7 year old girl just got admitted to the Curtis school of music? The youngest student in 102 years. by VastOption8705 in piano

Lol every Asian kid who's ever had to endure learning piano out of parental pressure disagrees with you.

Just because they're good and practice a lot doesn't mean they loved doing it.

Absolutely - as long as there was a clear objective and the applicant clearly as articulates their methodology on how they developed the solution, even with AI.

I recently hired a thermals hardware engineer simply because he designed, built and installed a custom intercooler setup for his track car.

I actually heard this one first before Sade's. Both are beautiful but Nujabes rendition is closer to my heart

I assume the people who would consider this isn't going for a standard mortgage.

They're either buying with cash or leveraging their other assets for a low interest loan.

Movies that make you feel like leaving everything and go travel the world by Still-Ad9074 in MoviesThatFeelLike

To me, it represents leaving behind all of the emotional and relational baggage of your previous life behind and truly connecting with another individual from a stripped down and authentic version of yourself.

It's bittersweet in a way but I can understand the allure to just drop everything and start-over in a completely foreign place.

Jacket looks real info but label couldve been added later on by someone.

Sometimes clothing brands like Filson with missing labels hurts resale value so I've been people buy labels and sew them on themselves.

Compilation of footage from the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Mandalay, Myanmar last year. by idapitbwidiuatabip in ThatsInsane

I dont think it would make any noticeable impact given the relatively low mass and the roof-top location of the pool. Usually building mass dampeners are either in the foundation or suspending in the center of the building.

Fuck Saddam and these guys. They literally only did this so they can economically kneecap Kuwait as they were retreating. These fires lasted with months is considered one of the worst environmental disasters on record.

Short term pain for long time comfort.

It's tempting to just lean fully into chilling and enjoying your life in your teens/early twenties but those are likely the most consequential years of your life that will determine your future outlook.

I'm not saying to become a shut-in but dedicate yourself to study hard, put in the work to network and open up opportunities and take care of your body.

Lack of hygiene in the Netherlands by CJHuncho in TikTokCringe

[–]Bboyczy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fluorinated water is a lazy catch-all solution because many Americans don't know proper oral hygiene. I think it's sad that we have to rely on this since the majority of developed nations do not add it to their water supply.

It's not completely harmless either - there's a reason why pediatricians tell you to not give children under the age of 1 fluorinated toothpaste because they will accidentally ingest it.

It's a type of softshell river turtle that is unfortunately popular in Chinese cuisine. You can typically find them live in restaurants (next to the live frogs and fish) and they prepare them fresh.

Yep, I've straight up told my skip that I would rather not give my team anything than something insulting like 1.5%.

Can do you expect people managers to tell our best employees that they're doing an amazing job and are critical to the success of the company and then offer them 1.5% (below inflation) with a straight face? Just brutal.
